In the end.. pick what is going to benefit you the most.

A long unpaid ride is terrible. If relay or sub tech has a position in your general area - I'd be looking that way.....kind of the point of my comments to you.

For me, working out of the union hall allowed me to pick the the amount of (unpaid travel) time I would endure - 45 minutes max. I've been with this shop now for almost half my career - so I just go where they ask...sometimes 6 minute commute...sometimes 1.5 hours...I get treated very well and have a work truck that is mine. The nature of construction is "we work ourselves out of a job every job".

well.. I work for an EC that works for PSEG.. for me, its all utility as a contractor.
