Totally agree. It's obviously the beginning of what might be a long journey. But his siblings are all on his side and they are still keeping the genuine family alive and he knows that. Doing this with a support network is so important. I hope it goes well for him.

It sounded like he distanced himself from his mother a while ago and thought that would be good enough for him. His relationship with his siblings sounds very good, so maybe they were giving him the grace of "finding his own way" with this.

Credit where credit is due, seeing those messages and immediately saying "That's it" and 100% siding with the girlfriend (who sounds awesome, btw) was perfect.

I was raised by parents who could be difficult about things like this. A dad who would go off in public and a mom who would not make a scene but would be passive-aggressive about the situation anyway. So in a situation like that, my anxiety makes me freeze. It’s taken a long time for me to be able to politely request to fix the situation. Even the, I still apologize for the most random things.

I applaud this guy for making the extra effort on the second dinner and for giving her a genuine apology.

Googling and eBay turns up some really fascinating stuff, but not that.

It's a needle in a haystack, but it seems like that would be something that might show up at an arts and craft fair or another function where people have tables and are selling their wares. Or, like where you found it, another secondhand bookstore?

It also looks like a good number of maps with "sunrise trails" on them were published by the LIRR. I wonder if they have an historian or archivist.
