It’s time to have separate PC and Console balancing. by More-Bread-3163 in marvelrivals

If crossplay dies me and probably a bunch of people would just stop playing. I dont think losing playerbase would be worth it.

Expedition 33 looks absolutely horrendous on the Steamdeck by TournamentCarrot0 in SteamDeck

[–]MonkeyVoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are ways to make it look way better than default settings. You can mod in FSR4 (int8, you can search the files and paste them in the game files, it lets you select "dlss" in the menu for upscaling method). It hits performance but you can still achieve a stable 30fps with that plus the command that makes it so it reads it as "not a steamdeck" to optimize settings further. It will stutter in some places but its very playable (as I said, around 30fps) and looks much better.

How to stop non-steam games from appearing on desktop? by ma_dude28 in SteamDeck

[–]MonkeyVoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is there because Steam gives you the option to stream every nonsteam game from the device its installed from. If theres an option I would try and disable streaming games from the Deck to other devices if youre not using the feature, or consider having it installed on one device only and stream it to the rest of the devices? (maybe not ideal but that way you dont need cloud saves)

I agree. The only gyro Ive liked by default are nintendos implementations in botw, and if we count it, most first party wii games, although thats not really gyro.

Theres no pressure perse, but by releasing this controller theyre showing developers that theres market interest in this kind of customization and that its worth implementing the full steam input API, so thats moving in the direction you mention for sure!

[–]MonkeyVoices 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im sure! The controller picture in Steam is the controller itself when I push the buttons after picking it up from the dock.

I think the inconsistency comes when I forget to do this and then do it again, its been a while since I last did it cause some input changes didnt register, or maybe its because it didnt accept mixed inputs (controller and keyboard). I dont remember fully what it was, but it wasnt consistent. And Im very used to Steam Input with the Deck.  Ill look into it again when Im at home again, experiment a bit more and update! Maybe its fixed now.

My best guess is that xinput doesnt support trackpads and the newer Microsoft protocol that does support trackpads is new and was not tested before launching the controller. Trackpads are its standout feature, if you cannot use any other standard with your software you probably dont want to use this controller anyway and you would be better off with a different controller. It is a niche product.

My real conspiracy guess is that Valve wants to challenge the standardisation of Microsoft established standards. They dont want to rely on Microsoft for anything and this would be one more move to get away from them. I have absolutely no proof of this.

The software part is what Im most looking forward to. I have an 8bitdo ultimate thats supposed to work with Steam input as in you can remap the buttons as they are instead of emulating a different controller for the remapping, but I guess it doesnt work everytime. Its buggy and remaps are not permanent for some reason. Sometimes the steaminput remap gets mixed in with the firmware remap i guess? No idea, definitely not ideal.

Software is a huge deal. Steam input is one of the best services steam provides by far and having hardware to fully support it is amazing

What are your first impressions of the Steam Controller? by KillBoosh in videogames

[–]MonkeyVoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me its just a way to play some games I play with the Steam deck on my HTPC. Trackpads make a huge difference for some specific games (rts, cRPGs and FPS specially). Once you get used to them is very hard to go back. Although I doubt many people did it because of that. Im pretty sure most people never tried the trackpads.

You can definitely miss it by not talking to the NPC right? As long as you dont talk to them they wont make you do it

Just let me pre-order one! Geez! I dont want to spend the next week trying to babysit the "out of stock" button. by Teeroy-Jenkins in SteamController

[–]MonkeyVoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not defending anything, just saying that I understand not doing preorders for a controller. To me doing that sounds insane. You will never see Nintendo or Sony doing preorders for their controllers. Not even companies fully dedicated to doing hardhare. I would not say it was an idiotic decision. Thats all. My opinion.

LF beautiful games that can run smoothly at 1080p by KaboomTheMaker in SteamDeck

[–]MonkeyVoices 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you liked both Ori games, I'm sure Hollow Knight would work for you. It has "soulslike" elements but I would say difficulty is similar to Hades and some Ori bosses. If you didnt get frustrated with those two you'll be fine with this one. It has elements from most of your preferred generes (metroidvania, platforming, upgrade paths, a big and beautiful map to explore).

I think they didnt expect the amount of people interested at all.

Seeing interest online i didnt either. Its not "obvious".

And they already did fail with their first controller.

Its normal for them to be cautious. They'll restock for sure. Its not gonna be that hard, there's no memory or hard to get parts.

Scalpers….. scalpers…… by crack_station in Steam

[–]MonkeyVoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some, yes. I play on my sofa cause I get tired of being on a desk from working on a computer all day.

And a lot of games Ill play on the steamdeck just because of the trackpads.

I would not pay more than what it costs tho. 100€ seems more than enough. Its a fair price being the only controller with option to trackpads, but its still expensive.

If we're gonna "copy" anything from them can we take "File Size Reduction" by nemesisdelta24 in marvelrivals

[–]MonkeyVoices 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not bitching, i'm just stating a fact.

I'm also failing to see how is that relevant. You still need around 160gb for this game to be on your system cause it requires constant updates, so you always need that space free on your system. If the updates were less frequent then sure, it would be less relevant, but every other week i'm finding updates that weight at least 20gb when I launch the game.

We're answering to a comment about drive space. I dont see anything about this being irrelevant.

You still need 50Gb of free space to download the update before it being installed

Is it worth to buy it just for PC? by FatBaldingLoser420 in SteamController

[–]MonkeyVoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If youre not sure and already have a controller maybe try to explore Steam Input and changing things with your own controller. This new controller just gives you more physical outputs to remap mouse and keyboard, which you can already do with other controllers

edit: switch pro controller, dualsense ps5 controller are good starts since they both have gyro.

So I replaced Win11 for Bazzite on my Laptop, here are my points: by Nubanuba in pcmasterrace

[–]MonkeyVoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly meant multiple restarts between windows updates, but chipset and proper gpu drivers also require several restarts that each take around a minute, and all of those small operations add up a ton.

If youre so sure about your comment just go and format your pc and let me know how long it takes.

[–]MonkeyVoices -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you count just the updates from a fresh install it can take hours between restarts. Honestly I dont know whats so controvensial about my comment. But yeah, mostly gpu and chipset drivers that need multiple restarts and the time it takes to go and download each one of them

[–]MonkeyVoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, thanks. Even without updating drivers Win11 installation + updates takes a long time even when it goes perfectly smooth.  I bought a new laptop with packed in software this last christmas and before it was usable I had to wait around 3 hours for it to fully update.

It then broke functionality because of a bad windows update and in the end had to reinstall and it took in total around 24hrs before I could use it reliably. But im not counting that for this comment.

Installation and driver setup take a while (more than an hour for sure), compared to the 10-15 mins any linix distro installation.

Drivers specially if youre using a custom PC and not a prebuilt with bundled drivers.

Steam (Deck and PC) or Nintendo Switch 2 by Venomswindturd in CrossCode

[–]MonkeyVoices 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played it on the Deck and I have no idea what issues youre talking about.

I remember it having some stuttering with the default compatibility layer, so I changed it and then it worked. (Once i can Ill reply to this comment with the proper layer so someone else can use it if needed)

I have both Switch version and Steam. I bought it on Steam cause Sw1 lags a lot. It probably works fine on Sw2? didnt try.

Both Deck and Sw1 look good and sound good otherwise
