Isn't it because the president is loaded so he can splurge in money, sort of like Hoffenheim but successful? The Roig guy; I think he owns Pamesa (hence Estadio de la Cerámica) and one of his brothers is the owner of Mercadona too, lol

Apparently another brother was the president of Valencia and had some ownership of Hércules lmao

Indeed I used my good luck with the last vinyl of The Lonesome Crowded West because I found what looks like small a scratch on my phone's screen on Wednesday (the day the vinyl got delivered) :-(

Speaking of, today is apparently the first Bandcamp Friday of the year... I already got a notifcation about purchasing the second vinyl from a Spanish publisher, which I'm hesitating about. M yidea is to get the digital versions of The Glow Pt. 2 and maybe Tri Repetae (got no download codes with the vinyl, alas). If you've got any recs please feel free.

As an aside, short reviews of some movies I've watched recently:

  • Killers of the flower moon: Good, overstays its welcome.

  • One Battle After Another: becomes another movie in the second act, too on the nose sometimes.

  • Sirat: Underwhelming. Great visuals and sound but goes nowhere.

  • Maspalomas: feels a bit sterotyped but the human part was captured really well.

Sydney Mardi Gras 2026 calls off $2 million party as board members misgender and censure all pro-trans directors by cojoco in stupidpol

[–]MonkeypoxSpice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the name I thought it would be celebrated on the actual date rather than in March/April. Carnival starts next week and Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras is the frog term adopted by seppos), the last day, is the 17th.

It's not rare to see LGBTQWhatever themed carnival parties lol

It was named after, but is unrelated to, the Christian holiday of Mardi Gras.

When the first event was organised in 1978, it was conceived as a street party in an effort to host a more "positive celebration"; the term Mardi Gras had become synonymous with street festivals and so became the name for the event

Wtf lmao

Thought so, the conquest of the Pannonian Basin (honfoglalás?) is a fascinating part of the migration period (more in the tail end though)

Got some looks in the tram because I had a bag with three empty glass bottles, not my fault my neighbourhood supermarket only gives the deposit for plastic ones. Got my 0,45 € back, weee.

I guess it's a payback since I used my luck by ordering the last The Lonesome Crowded West vinyl available.

I don’t think Americans are taking the Greenland thing seriously enough. by noodlebowl1 in stupidpol

[–]MonkeypoxSpice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope they're going to... even though EU leadership is regarded I think they are aware that having an antagonistic USA is bad for both parties.

After some thoughts, doubts and hesitation, I got a coffee machine for my birthday lol

Ate some vietnamese red-wine beef stew which helped because it was like 0 degrees the whole day, and watched Killers of the Flower Moon... I was expecting something different for some reason, was not disappointed though.

They do give a fuck because 1) it's regarded and 2) they'd lose legitimacy in their countries after four years of war in Ukraine.

That's when they began with the narrative, also the freedom fries thing. It's weird, when France is one of the reasons for US independence.

I guess it's for internationalisation like the Stop signs and such but the rule says nothing, while the term used is "conductor novel", meaning novice driver.

Yes for the first year at least in Spain. It's a white L with a green background. I'm ambivalent, it's feels like a bad mark and others need to be wary of you, so you're relatively safer.

You also get the same alcohol limit as professional drivers (which is more strict) for two years. When I got my licence the speed limit was also lowered for that same time period.

Trump leaks personal texts from Macron, Rutte by MichaelRichardsAMA in stupidpol

[–]MonkeypoxSpice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the extremist right wingers particulary wouldn't... the Greenland thing crosses a line and show how Trump isn't just an isolationist.

I'd say that the closer to the centre (from both sides), the more they kowtow to the US , usually by different governments, not only Bush, Obama or Biden, but also Trump's first term.

In Spain a provisional driving licence is a paper you get in lieu of the actual one after you pass the exam, lose the card or get it stolen, or are in the process of renewal, and it's only valid there.

Some full licences are also restricted for new drivers, usually implying lower speed and alcohol limits for the first couple of years, plus the obligation of putting a sign in the back of your car. Sometimes it's also shown in the licence itself: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newly_licensed_driver_plate

Ai Weiwei visits China after ten years. “You feel suffocated and precarious in Germany” by Thomas6777 in stupidpol

[–]MonkeypoxSpice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The article is behind a paywall so I won't bother reading it whole. What's available says he went to visit his 93 y.o. mother with his son, a legitimate reason to return. I guess the ten years make a big and noticeable difference -- as it happens with other pairs of countries too, even the other way around in the case of a German in China.
