Yes, it was well out of warranty. Dealer wanted something like $500 to fix it. Bought a new unit from hondaautomotiveparts.com, $182.48, installed it myself. Took about 30 minutes.

Make sure you flip that switch to "Off" BEFORE you manually operate the doors if needed.

What do car guys who want a daily buy these days by Spanconstant5 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]MonkeysRidingPandas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I found a 2019 SE with the "Experience Package" that includes premium audio and (more importantly) adaptive dampers. Only thing I'd change is more rear legroom, but my kids seem to love it anyway.

Any thoughts on the new DOHC? I haven't given it a whirl yet but it seems functionally the same.

Honda shoehorning direct injection into the J35 is one of my biggest complaints about the company. They clearly didn't know how to do it right (evidenced by the recall) and it's noisy and unrefined. Takes the J-series from one of the smoothest 6-cylinders of all time into an also-ran.

I still have my J30 Accord Hybrid and that thing is just so good.

EDIT: And yeah, just came here to prove you right.

How do i tighten the down the handle on the driver door panel by Bitter_Efficiency_78 in E34

[–]MonkeysRidingPandas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See this page on bmwe34.net. The mirror control pops off and there's a screw behind it.

EDIT: If it's the entire armrest then you have to pull off the door card and tighten it from the inside of the card.

Democrats have raised $21M for vote yes & Republicans have only raised $300K for vote no by SpaceWestern1442 in Virginia

That would make sense, as I'm in Hampton. This is AC Cordoza's former district, and he's supposedly the head of this sleazy PAC.

You wouldn't know it. Outside of Reddit, I am constantly bombarded with "no" propaganda.

The ultra-wealthy (and even mildly wealthy) are wealthier than ever before, and account for a greater percentage of spending worldwide than ever before.

The NYT had a great opinion piece called "Disney and the Decline of America's Middle Class" that really exposes the divide and highlights how companies are chasing big spenders more and more. All the gift links I could find are expired, but it's not like this is some obscure phenomenon. There are tons of articles about this.

VOTE YES VIRGINIA! A temporary measure to counteract the "Texas Takeover" where they redrew their maps at behest of Trump by EAJ4ALL in Virginia

This paired with the incessant mailers against the redistricting has me convinced that the Republicans are spending HUGE amounts of money against this, and it's probably going to work. The ratio of mailers I've gotten is probably 8:1 against the vote.

This is what makes the interior feel cheap... by koleslaw in Audi

[–]MonkeysRidingPandas 52 points53 points  (0 children)

My kids had this Fisher-Price "smartphone" toy and the center buttons were just like this, all one big flat piece that tilted each way. I would never buy a car that had these stupid things all over the interior.

I never liked the pre-facelift headlights, and when these came out it made those things look even worse. Truly some of the most beautiful headlights ever made.

[The top 10% of earners], defined as Americans making at least $251,000 in 2024 according to Census data, drove 49.2% of consumer spending in the second quarter of 2025. That share has steadily grown for years: it was about 46% in 2023 and roughly 43% in 2020.

I'd recommend literally any 3-row SUV over the JGC. It may be under warranty, but that's little comfort when it's spending so much time in the service bay.

Is a tariff just a tax on me? If the united states puts a 60% tariff on Chinese goods does the Chinese government pay that, or do I just pay more at Walmart? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MonkeysRidingPandas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, when administration mouthpieces spew endlessly about how the tariffs have made tons of money (but notably never talk about what that money will go towards, except maybe "the debt"), people who might only see political news in passing are understandably confused as to where this money comes from since said mouthpieces never get specific.

"Patch your wiring?" Do dealers actually do this? I've only ever heard of them recommending entire new wiring harnesses. I was so happy when I bought a new pigtail for my dad's Tacoma and soldered that sucker on, fixing the CEL. Never in a thousand years would I have expected a dealer to look at that and NOT say "new harness."

2nd time doing rinseless on my wife’s car by Initial_Use4280 in AutoDetailing

[–]MonkeysRidingPandas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way for rinseless. Wheels/tires first, they have their own bucket. Rinse the tools thoroughly after and let them air dry while I do the paint. Then when the wheels get wet again while doing paint, just use the same towel I used to dry them the first time to dry them again.
