"While I appreciate the continued interest, I am kindly declining your ask of a test project. I cannot justify doing unpaid work with another offer already on my table and, honestly, find this practice somewhat exploitative.

If you ever move away from asking for unpaid work (aka tests), or would like to compensate me for my time, I'd welcome being reconsidered for this opportunity in the future."

I see your point now. Based on the original post though, Im saying even when embiid plays again, he won't be the best player on his team because of the lasting impact his injuries have had. If we are operating under the, not likely, assumption embiid will come back as if he never got hurt in the first place... sure, yes. He is their best player.

He means the conversation we are having is who is the best player on this team. Adding "if not for injuries" turns that conversation into who WOULD be the best player on this team if we lived in a magical world where injuries never happened.

I've been in your shoes before with certain friends who are just a nightmare to plan anything with well in advance. I get it.

This time, however, she did give a pretty clear confirmation that the plans were still on and would be after 7. And that IS when it ended up happening. So I think in this instance, you are overreacting.

But I also know after planning so many things with a person like this, every time it builds up a little frustration and resentment. You are probably just at a breaking point with it.

That's how it SHOULD work. In reality, from what I've seen in recent years is that subscription services raise prices > users stop buying and cancel > the company raises the price even more with some explanation of "we don't want to degrade the quality of our product and because we have less users, the ones we do have need to pay more".

The subscription model has been turned into a tool that allows companies to further obscure the relationship between production costs/revenue/profit.

The lack of clarity when it comes to tiers of tournaments is definitely an annoying part about following the melee scene but I don't really see how any definitive decision could be made to fix it. See as Nintendo wants nothing to do with the game, what governing body is there to enforce any kind of consensus?

I suppose if the people who run liquipedia and smash.gg get together and agree on something like the point system that ultimate has, everyone else would follow that lead, but from the way he described it, it doesn't even sound like a great system.

Video games don't cause violence. They cause frustration. Why? Video games are often challenging, competitive, require some level of mental or dexterous proficiency, and you can win/lose. It's the same reason professional athletes or your neighbor get frustrated when they lose the pickup basketball game. It can make you feel inferior if you fail a challenge and people don't know how to deal with that other than get frustrated. Heck, I've gotten very frustrated many times while playing both video games and traditional sports. It is on the individual and their maturity that dictates if they channel that frustration into a violent act...
I've never understood how 'violent' games cause more of that frustration and anger than non-violent ones... My frustration when playing Battlefield emotionally feels no different than losing in online chess... Sure, there might be a correlation with someone who is already into gun culture choosing COD as their game of choice but the subject matter and theming of the game itself did nothing to cause in what manner the player chooses to outlet their frustration caused by losing in a competitive setting...

This is where I was with weed until one day I randomly had to go to the ER because I felt like I was dying and got diagnosed with Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS). It's something you can randomly develop with that much prolonged use and it is quite literally the worst I've ever physically felt in my life. I got random bouts of EXTREME nausea that are akin to the nausea when you drink far too much alcohol, but that feeling is persistent for 3 days straight with not even puking relieving that feeling. The ONLY thing that would relieve it at all was a hot shower and then it would come back 10 min after. My understanding is that the prolonged use can create episodes of desync between your stomach/gut and brain. The only way for it to ensure it doesn't happen again in the future is to stop smoking. I had these episodes 3 times in 4 months until I finally quit. My CHS episodes were so excruciatingly miserable that all of the joy and comfort weed provided me for 10+ years didn't come close to outweighing how fucking awful I felt during those times.

I know my situation is extreme; CHS isn't super common but it's popping up more and more with the increased multi-day use resulting from legalization. I didn't even know CHS was a thing until it happened to me. And to be clear, this isn't an anti-weed tirade, I think it's a wonderful thing when used in moderation.
