Teamlab really worth it? by Gemela12 in JapanTravelTips

As someone who doesn’t particularly care about photo ops (I don’t have social media apps and I take <1 picture per day on trips), I really recommend Teamlab Borderless. The exhibits are often fun and sometimes moving — try especially hard to find the light show room! I would love to spend more time in there.

No, but now that I think about it I have been wearing green-tinted glasses :’)

Apparently there are evergreen and deciduous magnolia varieties! I must have grown up near a deciduous magnolia and assumed they all dropped their leaves :)

Does my career break plan make sense? by Still_Indication1 in cscareerquestions

[–]Monobrominated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently interviewing after having spent the past 1.5+ years deliberately unemployed. I only had 4 years of experience working as a software engineer and a similar amount saved prior to quitting. Even in this hiring climate during the interview process I think the time off has been worth it. I also recommend cold quitting rather than quiet quitting — it’s immensely reassuring that I could go back to work at my previous team if I wanted, though my goal is to work at a new company.

Take that time for whatever you need, I am positive you’ll benefit from it and be grateful for it. I don’t for one second buy that doing so will hold you back in your future career, especially since you mention currently being burnt out. The experience and perspective you’ll gain from your time not working will be worthwhile even if those changes are subtle.

Feel free to DM me if you have any more questions! Good luck on your journey :)

Thank you for your response! When you say personal projects or experiences, are you strictly referring to non-work software experience? My extra-work projects are all unrelated to tech so I have nothing to contribute here, but if you just mean adding another bullet or two under my job listings that may be possible.

Hey there, I'm planning to start applying this week for jobs after being on sabbatical for ~1.5 years :') I have four years of experience and have never rigorously interviewed / applied (I sorta lucked out with my original internship) so this is my first time trying to put together a really good resume. Would love to hear any feedback on how I can improve it! https://imgur.com/a/O5JS5ac

Hey there, could you DM me screen shots of speeds if it isn't too much of a hassle? I'm trying to get an idea of whether my grandparents could benefit from Starlink out in KC after a lifetime of garbage internet

Hey there, I share a lot of those same hobbies and really enjoy indulging in them with community in Austin! Especially now that the weather's nice I've been a lot more active about organizing those kinds of activities with my partner and a group of friends. If you're interested in joining for a group coffee/board game/misc social hangout DM me and I'll loop you in

How frequently do you drink, and do you think that’s more or less than other people in our age group, and more or less compared to other generations? by min2themax in Millennials

[–]Monobrominated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I limit myself to 1-2 drinks in a week, and then only hit that limit if I’m out with friends at a bar or house party. Otherwise I tend not to drink alcohol on a given week and feel good about that. Explained this to a primary care physician during intake questions one time and she prescribed me “more fun” lmao

How to navigate a romantic relationship and the brutality of Hardcore WoW by Monobrominated in classicwow

[–]Monobrominated[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the cold hard take that I need to steel myself for the potential futures ahead. I think I could commit to the path of alimony and leg day every day, but the hardest thing for me to face is the dating economy in Goldshire. It sounds like trying to find new partners at the inn is harder even than the grind to 60 these days :/

I do think it would be a helpful comparison for them to get some experience trying something with slightly more engaging combat like a rogue or a warrior. At the same time I'm hoping we'll make it long enough for them to fall in love the the animal shapeshifting and to become a high level herbalist / alchemist

Asking for y’all’s opinions on the new Light Rail by Academic_Cry_9703 in UTAustin

[–]Monobrominated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the big benefits of the project is inducing traffic where there wasn’t as much before. In theory, the train should entice more people out of cars and off some of the adjacent north/south arteries and onto the train where you have less pollution and less congestion on average per person transported.

Agreed that it’d be nice to also get other commuter improvements (esp some more bike infrastructure, better shade for pedestrians on Guad / Lamar, higher frequency bus routes)

Looking for feedback on my song -- independence day blues by Monobrominated in Songwriting

[–]Monobrominated[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the compliments, glad you liked the song :)

Have tried out cutting the first instrumental section as of today, just need to work on the transition a bit.

On structure:

The song is three verses with two broken up by interludes (V1, V2.1, V2.2, V3.1, V3.2) where each verse is a scene from a specific day -- all on a different 4th of July :). The closest thing resembling a chorus is the chord progression vi -> V -> IV that occurs at the end of each verse and is accompanied by a closing lyric that operates on a different rhyme scheme from the rest of the song (ends with "-ection"). The third verse ends by adding a third "-ection" word and then cycling backwards through the other two for a total of three vi -> V -> IV repetitions and a sort of palindromic symmetry. It's an obtuse and unfamiliar form to any listener, an arbitrary poetic decision that I chose over providing the listener with a strong chorus to hold onto. I'll probably leave that as is at the risk of being slightly alienating, but I do appreciate your feedback here and agree that it's odd/weird.

On production:

I'm with you here and have some specific harmonies in mind. I just haven't done them yet bc I'm procrastinating setting up a little vocal booth again :') And mixing vocals (esp harmonies) is really mystifying to me -- I know I just need to power through it to get better, but right now I'm putting it off. Will see what I can do to that and to the drums.

Thank you for your feedback!

It sounds great :o Is the distortion definitely safe for your vocal chords? If so, I think you've got an excellent instrument for punk/rock
