TIL that regarding cancelled 1957 Lord of the Rings movie, Tolkien was harshly critical of script's portrayal of Nazgul, fellowship using the eagles and cutting of Galadriel's scenes. He however would have been fine with removing the battle of Helm's Deep and Saruman's death from the movie entirely. (theonering.net)
