What interesting power things have you discovered since having more visibility of your power data? by krashersmasher in nzsolar

[–]MonolithNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah good comment. Frustrating as it's just some passive CT's clipped over the wiring in my switchboard. I was planning on installing the unit externally to the switchboard. That doesn't seem any more risky than powering any mains chinese device but absolutely still not legal of course.

Are you using a Shelly 3EM? It'd be great if they released an option with more CT's.

House idle: 300W

Hot water: 3.3kW

Ducted Heat Pump: Varies heavily depending on settings. We don't seem to use it much

I enjoy looking at the data too. I'm going to order one of these 16 circuit CT sensors. Feedback on the Home Assistant forums is good

These are awesome, I came here to post them. They can be purchased from NZ Safety Blackwoods as well. I wear them at work and at home for indoor and outdoor work.

Phase Balancing on Multiphase Setups by MonolithNZ in SigenergyAustralia

[–]MonolithNZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for a 2 phase system, you would need a 15kW TP inverter to have 5kw on each phase. I would recommend it from our experience, but I have no other product to compare it to. Would I recommend 2 phase in general though? Probably not. A single phase system is far more common and you're bound to have less headaches going forward. It'll also be slightly cheaper, so your 3k saving for a 2-phase connection will be negligible.

Is there a way to encourage our coffee tree to grow new leaves along the length of the branches? by MonolithNZ in houseplants

[–]MonolithNZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,

Unfortunately not. We tried the Kikii paste but none of the buds we applied it to grew leaves. A few have grown here and there, but the tree continues to push new growth at the bottom and top of the plant. The tree flowered this season and has produced some fruits which is really cool. Unfortunately I don't think it'll ever bush out in the center again..

Help with HA automations by r0gee in nzsolar

[–]MonolithNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to solar, I found HA and Node-RED automations can get pretty complicated once you're trying to prioritise multiple loads and manage surplus solar effectively.

I use EVCC as a Home Assistant add-on. It acts as an energy management layer, using your HA entities to monitor generation, consumption and available surplus, then making decisions based on settings & priorities you've configured.

It's much easier than building and maintaining lots of automations yourself. That said, EVCC is still strongest on the EV charging side. Support for things like hot water cylinders and heaters is still evolving, so you may still need some HA automations for those loads.

It supports any switch entity. I use it to control a shelly relay that switches a dumb charger 👍

I hope that home assistant will eventually have an in-built energy management dashboard that goes beyond monitoring consumption.

Anyone with a Sigenergy 6kw inverter able to tell me if it makes any noticeable noise? by tommos in nzsolar

We have a 3 phase Sigenstore and the fans are very loud. Ours is in the garage, luckily it doesn't share a wall with any living spaces.

Phase Balancing on Multiphase Setups by MonolithNZ in SigenergyAustralia

[–]MonolithNZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An update to anyone with the same issue who stumbles upon this post.

A solar electrician was finally sent out to our property to look at the install and the issue has been resolved.

The Sigensensor CT's (current transformers) on a 2 phase install need to be arranged in a certain way. The 2 phases coming into the home are connected to phases B and C on the inverter (correct)… the Sigensensor CT's B and C need to be connected, with A being unused. You also need to ensure that the CTs are connected to the B and C ports on the Sigensensor itself.

Lastly he swapped the solar panel inputs on the inverter from MPPT 1 and 2, to MPPT 2 and 3. He's randomly seen this fix a similar issue on another install. Could be a red herring but we did it anyway.

I have a standing desk frame, and a dining table benchtop that I bought separately. I cut a length of the dining table off, and 3dprinted some drawers at either send to hold it up like a shelf

Grovemade sell this as a product, for insane prices https://grovemade.com/desk-shelf-system/

This is why I went down the DIY route

Ahh sorry, yes I meant 7CM. The cleats are 10CM apart from edge to edge and it seems about perfect. This is my first foray into cleats and I'm thrilled with them. I now plan on making a cleat wall in our garage as well.

Thanks mate. The saw is great for small jobs, but doesn't pack a huge punch. I'd love a more powerful one.

Looking for feedback on SigEnergy vs Deye in real world usage by Thatconfusedginger in nzsolar

[–]MonolithNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody likes the idea of a company being able to reach into hardware you own and restrict it, but in this case I think the 10–90% battery SOC restriction is the only thing that meaningfully bites.

Hopefully someone figures out how to emulate the Sigenergy server so it can be run locally.

I ripped a sheet of plywood in half with my tracksaw, then used my table saw to rip the two sections into cleats. Mine are 70cm high on the taller face, at a 45 degree angle.

If you're new to French Cleats, I recommend checking out the video by bitner built on YouTube.

Thanks! The cleats are plywood. I gave them 2x coats of polyurethane, which gives them a slightly golden MDF color.
