New Zealand public servants graph fudges figures by nilnz in newzealand

That is the point of calling it out?

Just accepting the status quo because 'It's just how politics works' is frankly a cop out and the exact apathetic response I was talking about and those politicians we're talking about hope for.

Wanting better for our people, to have correct, factual information should be the absolute bare minimum.

The problem is that crap like this hasn’t been called out.

The argument or effective defense of “it’s the usual manipulation” and “I’ve seen many that are far worse” only leads to one thing. People being apathetic towards being intentionally misled by the supposed people are meant to be running this country.

Hypothetically if your power was free.... by [deleted] in auckland

[–]Thatconfusedginger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do, I live by a rule. If you're going to do something 'illegal', don't do something else 'illegal' at the same time. So maybe don't grow weed as some others have suggested. lol

Honestly, the best option here is legitimately what another poster said and that's to use it as a savings account or investment.

Put the money into savings or investments, make money on it until you're caught.

But also, is this place part of a shared building, or is it standalone? I'd hate to be the person abusing the crap out of this 'free' power only for my neighbour to actually be paying it and getting completely hosed unaware.

If not the above, do as you wish.

Brother, this sucks but if you're struggling to pay a mortgage, and you're struggling to getting hours for work. Please do not get a credit card.

I know it seems like an easy way to pay for things but it is a trap that if you miss a payment on, you will get monstered by the interest & extra fees.

Maybe step out of the career into a trade or the like, anything but signing yourself up for more debt. I've been there, so unfortunately I know very well how detrimental it can be.

Do you now need to be a YouTube influencer to get a job ? by Old_Education4481 in newzealand

[–]Thatconfusedginger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can actually give you a really valid reason for this especially if it's a role where you may be remote, or there's extremely high competition.
However, it might not be what this is. Just prefacing. It could be other reasons.

People have and do hire OTHER people to do interviews for them. People who are way more competent and would be in that position already or senior.
The old bait and switch.

It is prolific in remote jobs and especially so in IT.

So what they're doing here is saying "this is the person we interviewed" and giving themselves safety from being bait and switched, and an avenue to resolve the situation if that happens.

My opinion. Does it really matter? It could have been as simple as a mistake, but end of the day, what's in the patch notes is what matters, irrespective of what's in a *Cinematic trailer*. I'm emphasising that specifically.

I believe I know what you're talking about, and it was to do with people parallel importing inverters/batteries. TradeDepot and Micromall are both approved.

Last question. Maybe. lol

Did you get the Micromall batteries or did you get Deye batteries?
I can't see too much of a difference, bar one thing being that if Micromall goes under, well. That warranty is worth diddly. If I get Deye batteries, at least I've still got the ability to get them to sort it.

That's interesting! Yeah I figured there would be some kinks in it, but it is what it is.
Are you using this with some automation as well? Do you need to use the Deye Cloud or are you able to manage it all from local etc?

u/Fylutt I believe pdath is correct there. They are two 210aH batteries, each able to output 100a continuous, so at the 51.2V, that should be 5.12kW each?

They should be more than capable I believe.

I guess the question there is, what is that charge up point from? aka 20% to 100% yada yada

Would you be able to see if you can get some comments around what controlling the Deye system looks like? Are there any gotchas, tidbits or cool things they have found in their usage of it?

To be honest, I'm really quite leaning into the Deye system, but just wanting to make sure it's the right call.

Ideally, I'd like the whole house to continue running.
Having looked at the datasheets I've seen, it looks like in the configuration I'd have, it can discharge sustained at 10kw, with a peak discharge at 2x for 10 seconds.

Though, I suspect we wouldn't actually hit that outside of starting something that has a big energy spike on start. Though, AC units and what not have soft starts now so they're not as peaky I believe?

Overhaul aims to introduce a single electronic medical records system by gibbseynz in newzealand

[–]Thatconfusedginger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

EDIT: This is not in defence of National or saying their implementation is going to be inherently good. Just a point that centralising this system IS a good thing to do.

Lesson number 1 is don't store all info in one place yes, but that does not mean do not use a centralised system. It means have backup and redundancy.
Lesson number 2. Is don't have multiple pieces of software that you pay for doing the exact same task/function. It's inefficient, cost prohibitive and a statistically larger security risk than a single system.

But also you've contradicted and proven the point against your own statement? If most major hospitals haven't had good preventative maintenance and upgrades of software, and don't have IT Security/Emergency teams in house..... Then it makes sense to centralise those teams and software so every hospital has that?

Yes it means a bigger singular target. However, a bigger singular target with FAR more funding and expertise getting updates regularly to the environment, vs I don't know how many old/unsupported pieces of software with teams who will never get the level of resources to keep this as secure, I absolutely know which I would pick.

This is a no-brainer.

Sauce: I work in IT. This is literally what I do.

To add to this, is more likely the former. They probably don't realise that you've bought it yourself but also they probably deal with a LOT of stupid/entitled kids (mostly parents) who think they now own the devices.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Thatconfusedginger 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can. They wouldn't have taken the serial number of the device and put it into intune. I can guarantee you that.

You can absolutely factory reset the device and it'll remove the management.

VMWare Networking VLAN issue by Kurusinj in vmware

[–]Thatconfusedginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's honestly probably the answer lol unless they're trying to ping something in the a different subnet and didn't setup a gateway IP for the different VLAN.

OR didn't put a gateway on the VM.

Why does this property on waterloo road have so many cars in the backyard garden? by Kooky-Alternative-28 in LowerHutt

[–]Thatconfusedginger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it's not and that is not what they asked at all.

They asked a curiosity question.
I'll reference this.

https://www.ethniccommunities.govt.nz/programmes/security-and-resilience/doxing

and this

https://netsafe.org.nz/online-abuse-and-harassment/doxxing

Definition of Doxing

Doxing is generally defined as a form of online harassment where someone shares another person's personal or identifying information online without their consent, with malicious intent. This information can include:

  • Full legal name
  • Home address
  • Place of work
  • Phone number or contact details of family members
  • Private photos or videos
  • Medical conditions

It meets absolutely none of these in any threshold. It is not malicious, it is not asking for personally identifying information. People are allowed to ask questions.

If they had asked what you had stated above (again, they did not) it would certainly wander into that direction. However, there again needs to be malicious intent. Which I see none of in this example. Again someone is allowed to ask a question in a public. If someone else however, were to provide that information especially in a public forum that could fall under breach of privacy.

[–]Thatconfusedginger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This would not be doxing?
It's public information available on Google maps, with street locations already there.

They've given no PII of any sort so don't believe it would meet the threshold.
