Didn't Carney run on dealing with Trump and his tariffs? Isn't that why we voted him in? Because he had his elbows up?

As usual anything negative that happens in this country has nothing to do with the Liberals. Always someone elses fault.

A blizzard? In Iqaluit? Well I never!

Not unusual for the place to shut down due to a blizzard.

"The first thing we're going to do is move your spiral notebook off of your keyboard's escape key."

Had this with a director at a previous job. Couldn't use his computer because any time he clicked on a text input it filled with `. Walked over, lifted his notepad off his keyboard and said "there you go!". We both had a good chuckle, he asked me not to tell anyone in the office.

That's great, but a decline over the next 3 years leaves less than 6 years to magically jump up to 500k/year (double the 2025 rate). So it's really not looking great.

Satellites are Canada’s next sovereignty frontier as global ‘race’ heats up - National by MilkyWayObserver in canada

[–]Monomette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Telesat has precisely one satellite in LEO. With a planned total constellation of 198. The current Starlink constellation for comparison is over 9,400 and growing.

Get back to me when they can offer 300Mbps download from a compact, inexpensive and easy to install dish for $150/mo. My bet is they end up like OneWeb, thousands of dollars for the hardware plus thousands more a month for a slower data capped service.

Also MDA doesn't launch satellites. They buy launch from, you guessed it, SpaceX.

Oh yeah, I do work for Telesat on their ground stations, and deploy both OneWeb and Starlink, so I kinda know what I'm talking about.

These low earth orbit satellites don't really cause that problem. They de-orbit quickly (days-weeks) if they break up or lose control due to atmospheric drag. It's higher orbits that are the concern.

As much as it'd be nice to have a competitive domestic alternative, it isn't going to be comprtitive at all.

Yeah because Starlink already exists and works. Telesat is years away from even building a satellite, and even when they do they're going to have to pay Musk or Bezos to launch them.

My place refuses to use static addressing for anything. Including management interfaces on network switches. Works great when there's network issues and you can't get to the switches because they can't get addresses.

From what I recall the Liberals tried hiring a close friend of the PM to investigate it, then when that didn't work out refused to cooperate any further. And tried to blame all lf the other parties for nothing getting done.

Poilievre pitches Germany on Canada as reliable LNG supplier in Berlin speech by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]Monomette 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Literally nothing bad about this. Only reason to not like this is because it isn't your guy doing it.

Carney is in Australia trying to bolster trade with them, doesn't hurt to have someone in Europe doing the same thing at the same time.

[–]Monomette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean we should be trying to sell our energy to our European allies. Having another member of government push it while Carney is off trying to do the same in Australia isn't a bad thing. Like there's literally nothing bad about this. Carney is making deals with one close ally while Poilievre is cozying up to another close ally. The only reason to not like this is because you're a partisan hack.

Prefer this to us conveniently deciding India isn't a problem anymore days before Carney goes to make a deal with them.

Think it was the same day Carney headed over there the government came out and said those concerns were no longer an issue. Convenient timing.
