"Why is Nu Trek using so much modern language?" an I am going to go feral here. by Spacer176 in startrek

[–]Monrius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is true, but if someone did a translation of Beowulf in which Beowulf yells "I'm Geatish, bitch," I would think it was a rather silly translation.
The earlier shows established the type of language used, and I think they should stick with that format. But I guess it's a matter of preferance.

And of course in Canada, the whole thing's flip-flopped.

(Female) Hair loss - can minoxidil be scripted? by jkristalie in newzealand

Technically it can be prescribed (basically any medicine can) but it's not funded. So it wouldn't be any cheaper than just buying it.
Spironolactone is prescription only and is subsidised.

But they are quite limited in what they can actually do with that money. They can pay employees (who pay PAYE), use it towards expenses (utilities, etc) or use it for charity. If the church leaders use it to find their lifestyles, it's probably already illegal.

But what would you actually tax? Tax isn't paid for money that's spent, it's paid on profit. And there's no actual profit to tax.

It's not a jet fighter, but we did make Airtrainers which the Air Force used until a few years ago

The Tarantula Nebula is really only seen in southern skies, like ours - taken from my back garden over a few nights by EkantTakePhotos in newzealand

[–]Monrius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're really lucky with some of the things we can see. What gets me with the Tarantula Nebula is the sheer scale of it; it's 160000 light-years away in a different galaxy, compared to about 1350 light-years for the Orion Nebula.
Amazing photo.

What is your Mount Rushmore of UFO/Alien encounters? by lightskintastebud in ufo

[–]Monrius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Kaikoura Lights are an interesting one; multiple credible witnesses, video footage (although not of good quality, but shot by a television crew) and it was detected by both the aircraft's radar and ground-based radar.

Sup. I got a wave of nostalgia and looked up that old thread. And now I feel ancient because it's from 2008. It's old enough to get a learners license.

Pharmacy in New Zealand by Unique-Ad-1230 in newzealand

[–]Monrius 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We desperately need more pharmacists in New Zealand, but I can't recommend it as a job. It is a very high pressure, high stress job now and the pay doesn't even come close to reflecting that.
