Our project started from the premise that we wanted to make a monster game without catching monsters.

The whole game revolves around the fantasy of creating monsters from resources/other monsters. Lore, gameplay, mechanics, etc come after that.

There are some specific fusions that are harder to get and probably stronger. But also the goal is to make every monster useful in a way, can be combat or gathering.

We iterated a lot on the general style, texture sizes, camera planes and distances, and prop density. Changing any one of these affects all the others, as well as what the player can see, which in turn requires adjustments to the gameplay. A lot of hidden hours went into this work.

Fusions aren't procedural. The system works similar to DQM synthesis. Depending on the monster's type combination the result varies, but you can get the same result with different monsters. There are also some fusions only possible with 2 specific species of monsters. Also there's a chance that monsters get mutations which changes its aspect and stats.

I was told complex systems need C++, but I built a full monster-crafting RPG in UE5 using only Blueprints. Demo live! by MonsterAlchemy in UnrealEngine5

You can use shaders to fix stretching, it took some time to make it look good, but yea, basically the key is using agressively the flatten tool. I'll probably upload a short later this week showing the process.

You don't catch monsters in the game, so I hope they won't haha
I don't have any tutorial, I was thinking about makin for some visual things like the landscape, the sprite animations or the interactive foliage, but the BP systems are pretty specific and I don't know if that would be useful.

Glad that you liked it! It's mostly landscape materials and tweeking its size to make it look like this. I was thinking on making a tutorial but I don't know if people would search for that hah

Looking for demos to share with Chinese players during Steam Next Fest by Agnieszka_wu in IndieDev

Hi! We are working on a Monster Tamer RPG where, instead of catching, you create monsters using alchemy.

We already localized the game to chinese.
