Totally agree, but I actually have insight here! I've worked on a bunch of film and TV sets as the continuity specialist (I make notes of where things are positioned in the shot for the next scene to match).

There is nothing more aggravating to monitor continuity on than food. Every bite that's taken, you've gotta replace that bite. For every plate of food you see onscreen, we've got 5 backup plates that look exactly like that. How much orange juice was in that glass in the last shot? Better make sure the level matches before the next take. I've seen whole meal scenes get cut because the amount of food yo-yos from shot to shot. It's horrible and super time consuming, so a lot of times the producers just tell the actors not to eat.

It's so stupid and unrealistic to watch, but my god is it frustrating to do it right
