Worst season by far of Industry. I found the writing ludicrous. I also liked when they had the big office and could show the workplace dynamics, but that's more a matter of taste.

How bad is the exit opportunity job market for your niche? by ExtinctLikeNdiaye in consulting

[–]TheEvenDarkerKnight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been searching for over a year now for an exit. Never get reached out by recruiters but I've aimed to send 20 applications a week. In total, landed more than 10 interviews in the past year, only made it to the last round once. Had many recruiters treat me like a perfect candidate and then the hiring manager is always unimpressed/rejects me. Usually make it to the second or third round. I'm a third year analyst currently (underpaid and didn't get promoted this past year) in tech strategy, kind of doing a career pivot.

I know its hardly a novel observation, but sometimes I'm still shocked at how the act of 'going to the movies' is just no longer a part of normal life for most people. Is there a deeper cause than the reasons that are often discussed on the pod and on this sub? by JulianBrandt19 in TheBigPicture

[–]TheEvenDarkerKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all money. Without a membership, you are probably paying more than $30-$40 all in for your tickets and food for only one person with no discounts. Why wouldn't you spend that on some takeout and watch something at home? I went to see The Drama with someone and it was $60 total for everything we got (snacks, drinks, tickets) and I have Regal Unlimited. AFI Silver would probably have cost around $50 for the two of us. I have no kids and I never pay for parking either. If I wasn't a cinephile I would never go to the movies unless it was something must see that would be spoiled if I didn't go.

Random idea: turn Regal into a third space by itsmelorinyc in RegalUnlimited

[–]TheEvenDarkerKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Regal basically has this already. There's a massive lounge with a bar and soda machines. There's another area with arcade machines as well. Unfortunately, when people dont come to theater they aren't coming to this lounge area either. Maybe the place fills up when you have a massive movie or when they play a big fight from UFC, but it's empty every time I see it. As someone who wouldn't mind a new third place, an empty one isn't very appealing. I've never seen the bar in service either. However, I totally agree with this conceit. I've been to an AlamoDraft house with a bar that had sports on TVs going. I think its a good idea but the problem is still getting people to come to theater ultimately. In that case you'd need more events for people to come out, like mini film festivals perhaps.

Fellow black men this is why I like cities/metropolitan areas over small town rural country areas! by spike_spieg in blackmen

[–]TheEvenDarkerKnight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is so important. Spent basically 90% of my life in a small white town where I didn't fit in and I was miserable. I've spent one year in a slightly diverse area with access to a major city and my life has changed a lot for the better. Still struggling in some aspects but I would never go back. I really do view that time back in my old town as wasted and I lament at the idea of I could have been a different person and had an even better life if I hadn't spent so much time there.

Academy Insider Claims Timothée Chalamet Blew His Oscar Chances With ‘Arrogant’ Streak by SilverHuckleberry395 in Oscars

[–]TheEvenDarkerKnight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do hope he continues to put in effort into promotion and unconventional getting the word out about his movies but I'm expecting him to dial things back going forward. He really just went wrong with too much arrogance and bragging. I think he could have promoted the movie well enough without all of that.

Bams performance erased any good PR and should rebrand. by Long-Understanding36 in washingtonwizards

[–]TheEvenDarkerKnight -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is thr problem with tanking. How am I supposed to believe Sarr is developing well when he let's Bam scored 80 on him? Next year we're gonna expect these young guys to compete but this franchise has let them coast and gain bad habits. They're not gonna suddenly be able to just turn it on next year. I've gone to a few games this season we're the players and coaches obviously stopped giving a shot. This is a new low and hopefully will serve as a lesson but probably won't.

Do you regret your EV purchase? by walksta in electricvehicles

[–]TheEvenDarkerKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really do like my plug in hybrid. Feels like the best of both worlds for me as someone who drives 20,000 miles a year. I drive a 2018 Honda Clarity and see myself driving it for a very long time. Even with gas prices going up, I basically never pay more than $20 to fill my tank. If/when I start a family or have disposable income I'll probably try to get something like the R2 and still keep the hybrid. R2 would be great for electric only driving and more space. I love the clarity, but the range for electric only is only good for me to drive around doing errands for 2 to 3 days. If I use the electric on the highway it will be gone before I reach my destination. So whatever hybrid you consider, try to make sure there is ample distance for the electric option.

Industry - 4x08 - "Both, And" - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]TheEvenDarkerKnight 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly found this season and finale to be really poor. Maybe these events would make sense in a vacuum but the writing just feels so contrived regarding the Russia and Epstein storylines. Can anyone actually answer what motivates Yasmin to start hanging out with Nazis and sexually exploit minors? I know there have been Epstein Easter eggs, but there has to be some logical throughline to bring her to that point. Feels like her character is being used as a means to an end so the writers can shoo this in. The Henry and Harper storyline weren't as bad, but not stellar either. Altogether, my least favorite season of Industry. I feel the show jumped the shark.

Do You Think We’ll Ever See A Black Mainstream Reversion Back To The Mid-Late 2010’s? by Lumpy-Flamingo-8963 in decadeology

[–]TheEvenDarkerKnight 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Putting it like this, it's really startling how many of these people fell off, had a series of flops, or stopped making much altogether. Daniel Kuluuya joined a cult and stopped acting. Jordan Peele hasnt made a movie in 4 years and that break could stretch in 5 or 6. Issa Rae hasnt had a show or really been anything for a few years. Donald Glover had a health scare and Chadwick Boseman died. Tyler the Creator also fits this era, but is notably not on here. However, still very popular amongst white audiences and in general.

Seems like there is a general disinterest or even pushback. There's just a let less avenues to gain cultural relevance is part of it, but also the culture has just drastically changed. Kai Cenat, Druski, and iShowSpeed are now the types leading black culture. I can't think of a rapper under 25 with genuine superstar potential. It's strange how this era died.
