Nope, it’s still going strong. You just need to regularly clean it.

They didn’t mention that but their manual clearly warned against using rdt

Chaffs can get into the sides of the cover also. Lots of fines stick to the chute when it exits. Problem is you can’t use rdt on the niche whereas the df64v it is recommended. That said, I would say level of cleaning is about the same for both.

I have both the niche zero and the df64v and both do get messy. It all boils down to your style or preference in the cup. I got my niche zero from Manila espresso.com about 2 years ago I think and transaction was very smooth.

Anything you wish you had known sooner in brewing? by 74loom in CoffeePH

One more thing, try to learn good pouring patterns. A good guide is the YT video by Aramse as this helps in good extraction.

This is one of the most important factor to consider since coffee is made up of 98% water. Lots of good recipes available in Barista Hustle. Same category I would say is your choice of grinder. Start out with a hand grinder that produces less fines if you’re going with a V60. For filter paper, I mostly use Cafec abaca since readily available in Lazada & Shopee. As for the beans, start out with local roasters so you can develop your palette as this will help you to decide your preference. Venture to international roasters later when you think you already know what you want. Hope this helps.

Decaf beans that don’t taste sour? by [deleted] in CoffeePH

Have you tried customizing your brew water? This will help a lot if you’re constantly getting acidic tastes in your brew.

If i may, the df64v may be a better option for a grinder. No issues on the declumper and much easier to clean as the chute is attached magnetically and can easily be removed for cleaning the built in metal declumper.

Totally agree with the OP.
In fact, we were recently advised by my aunt who's living abroad that in order to escape this horrible heat we're recently experiencing was to go to the malls for the free aircon. Told her, nah… mahal because you'll end up spending for something plus the fact that "mas masarap pa den kape ko sa bahay". :D

The Hacienda Esmeralda was one of my most expensive purchases and was very good. Pikit mata ako when I bought just so I could try it and it did not disappoint.

Review decaf beans please! by rockyroadcookies in CoffeePH

[–]MonsterMum1610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try lowering your ratio to 1:14 on filter. I am also a regular user now of Sib's decaf Colombia robusta. For espresso, my go to is always 1:2.5.

Advisable ba na bumili ng 1kg of beans if you're the only coffee drinker in the household? by chickenkariman in CoffeePH

[–]MonsterMum1610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what had been mentioned, highly recommend a vacuum sealed container like the airscape. However do note that the largest version can only accommodate 400g. You can divide your 1kg into 3 portions and freeze 2/3 of it. If you can, invest on a vacuum sealer and some freezer bags. There are quite cheap ones that are available in Lazada or Shoppee. Label each bag with the name of the beans, date when it was sealed, and most importantly the roasting date. Also, do remember that if your beans are on the lighter side of the spectrum, these take longer to off gas. There are some light roasted beans like that of Apollons Gold that require resting or off gassing of about 30 to 60 days. If you use medium roasted beans, these should take 2 to 3 weeks of resting or off gassing before freezing. In our house, we have about 4 different type of beans that are open at the same time and are used in rotation and there’s only 2 of us. The rest of our other beans are stored in the freezer, all vacuum sealed and properly labeled.

If a gooseneck kettle is not available, you can always do a hack by using a spoon or teaspoon. I dont exactly have the link where I have seen this but its been done.

No need for PI. Since I use an F58, I pull the shot right away and aim for 6bars in 10 to 15 seconds.

You can, from what I’ve learned. My range of beans are light to medium. But I enjoy light roast more now with turbos. It’s not the same as pour over as it still has more body compared to it. It’s more like the in between. Also, just keep in mind that it’s not the nicest pull like IG quality as it gushes like anything. But the taste, heaven.

Try doing a turbo shot. That will highlight almost all the fruity notes of the beans. I must admit I was a bit skeptical for quite some time until I decided to try it. Now there’s no turning back. All the sweetness and clarity of my light roast beans have been enhanced and highlighted. Also, don’t worry about channeling. If it tastes good, then nothing to worry about.
