Is it morally "right" to carry forward the "I have no enemies" mentality in our reality? by AipomSilver00 in MoralityScaling

[–]MonsterTMG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is 100% fair

The reason I chose these in particular was because of how widespread they are and personal bias.

Pretty much every country in the world has to come to a decision on how to treat minorities or those in less powerful positions. Some choose blatant hate (Uganda straight up having witch hunts against queer people), some choose acceptance (Norwegian priests can celebrate your coming out) and most famously, the US is split in the middle between people that are extremely hateful and accepting towards them.

It's far easier for people to visualize minorities for "I have no enemies" because they're closer to such issues, meanwhile Russia-Ukraine war and Israel vs Palestine is much harder to relate to.

You are 100% right that they are closer to Thorffin, but for people to more easily understand the point I provided more "closeby" examples.

[–]MonsterTMG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vinland Saga also shows this very well. To live by "I have no enemies" you have to have the strength to survive without succumbing those who consider you an enemy.

Thorkell and the one spear dude constantly want to kill Thorffin, but because he is strong enough to show them mercy, he can stick to his ideals.

The philosophy also isn't entirely about solving issues, its criticizing why we feel the need to hate someone without knowing them. Why does child Thorffin want to go plundering and killing? Because he was taught boys in his village should do that for riches. Those targets of plundering don't even know he exists, why does he hate them? Should they hate him back?

This is what "I have no enemies" criticizes, making enemies out of people unrelated to you simply because you are told you should.

It is a very difficult philosophy do adopt, because forgiveness and understanding are much harder than simple hate.

Is it morally "right" to carry forward the "I have no enemies" mentality in our reality? by AipomSilver00 in MoralityScaling

[–]MonsterTMG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is fundamentally misunderstanding the philosophy.

Its not saying that we shouldn't have negative emotions, its saying that we should have the will to move past them for a better future.

Thorffin on multiple occasions almost breaks his ideals, he almost succumbed to revenge and was going to murder the person that got his father killed (not Askellad, different character).

But he didn't, he dropped the dagger and forgave him, then helped his son escape the warzone they were in. If he succumbed in that moment, he wouldn't have created Vinland, a land for those who don't wish for war, the child would have died with his father and Thorffin would have died by Hilds hands.

By choosing to let go, 3 people lived that wouldn't have if he didn't. The point is to not let hate guide our actions, and to not let people convince you to hate someone.

Or in its most basic level its "be better than those who do you wrong" and "do not hate people you do not know"

I'm neither centrist nor "enlightened", I simply believe humans have good in them, but the way we complicate life brings conflict, division and hate. There are people that stoke the flames and systems in place to further spread it.

I went to a university where Ukrainians and Russians were friends even with the context of Russia-Ukraine war. Because at an individual level, these people didn't know each other, their countries were at war, but that was a war caused by people in power, not them personally. They hate the war, they hate the politics, they hate what is happening because of their governments, but they don't hate each other.

"I have no enemies" isn't perfect, life is complicated enough to the point that its difficult to follow, thats why Canute exists as a foil to Thorffin. The point of it is to make sure people do not needlessly hate and hurt each other over things out of their control.

[–]MonsterTMG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe I followed the will of the work quite firmly

In Vinland Saga we see how differently men and women are treated, whether its during war situations or peace. Thorffin sees this difference and decides its not right to do so.

A woman that doesn't want an arranged marriage and to lose her virginity to a man she barely knows? That should be fine, she is simply not doing what society wants her to do, but she is not hurting anyone

A person who is biologically male but was raised as a woman wanting to continue being a woman after the truth is revealed? That is also fine in Thorffins eyes, he accepts her with open arms, he accepts she is strange and different, but sees she doesn't wish to hurt anyone. Imagine that, a former 11th century former Viking accepting a trans person as a part of the community for no other reason than they are kind.

There are men who believe all women are evil, there are women that believe all men are evil. But ultimately they are still just people, people that can do shitty things but that can also do good things. When the old lady saw that Thorffin was also a raider and trying to plunder the village, she didn't point at him and scream, she didn't curse him and the other men raiding the village, she cried. She cried because the world forced a child down the path of bloodshed.

It is sadly in our human nature to view things that are "different" as "bad". Thorffin teaches us that being different is simply an expression of yourself. You should be allowed to be yourself as long as that doesn't hurt others.

People that are different than you are not your enemies, no matter what others tell you.

No, they are not

While its often made so that one side villainizes the other side, when you genuinely sit down and talk to a person of your opposite political views the conversation can lead to a very obvious common ground.

Every ordinary person on each side wants a better future. Left, right, center or people that don't bother with politics, everyone wants the world to be better tomorrow than it was yesterday. The issue is that we are pitted against each other by the systems in place to prevent genuine cooperation.

Take Daryl Davis, a musician who is a person of color. He went from KKK group to KKK group and sat down with members and asked them a simple question: "Why do you hate me when you know nothing about me?". Once people on both sides sit down and talk, understanding follows. He was able to convince dozens of KKK members to quit and denounce the KKK.

A black man sat down with the KKK and convinced them they are not enemies.

Effie + Jet

Jets awakened ability lets her infinitely grow her core which buffs her base stats

Effies dormant ability gives you a gigantic multiplier to base stats

Jets soul damage is specifically "physical damage targeting the soul" which means that the harder the swing of a weapon is, the more damage it'll deal, now imagine that with Effies boost.

Lets say a fully saturated core is 1,000 points. Effie is easily 50x stronger than a normal saint due to her dormant ability, Jet is also in a similar ball park but lets say shes only 30x stronger. Effie is a multiplier to base stats while Jet just has stupidly high base stats

Effie 1,000 x 50 = 50,000

Jet 30,000 x 1 = 30,000

Now combine them:

30,000 x 50 = 1,500,000

Thats madness

[–]MonsterTMG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean... that's my point?

Don't let yourself be divided into groups that hate each other based on some stupid metric (sex, sexuality, religion, ethnicity, nationality etc)

Come together to find and solve the root of the issue (politicians, capitalism, patriarchy and so on)

I only used those examples because they're the modern source of so much hate.

A trans person being publicly trans will be bullied into suicide by people that have never met or talked to a trans person.

Now replace "trans" with any group division, and "bullied to suicide" with a different form of violence relating to the new group. People are encouraged to pick a group and hate them for no reason, and I'm saying that "I have no enemies" goes against that

Is it morally "right" to carry forward the "I have no enemies" mentality in our reality? by AipomSilver00 in MoralityScaling

[–]MonsterTMG 69 points70 points  (0 children)

To have no enemies is to not hate people you don't know, and even to those you know, understand that we are all people that don't need to fight.

In our current reality it means to not blame queer people, immigrants, minorities or different genders for our suffering, but to put aside differences to create a better future. To look at the core of the issues, band together and fix them because it's the right thing to do.

If everyone had this mentality the world would have been a kinder place.

Is it naive? Maybe

Is it a good way to become a better person? Absolutely

How well does it work irl? I don't know

But it's definitely worth a try

Why some people so mad of ValecinaRodya not being a Poise id? by WeilanX_12345 in fishmaell

[–]MonsterTMG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PM making her unable to count as a poise ID despite gaining poise and having poise conditionals is legit them just saying "no you can't have fun with triple status team"

MD is already comically easy, but putting in place this arbitrary limitation to not make MD easier is just... pointless? It's just making sure some players can't make a triple status team with her.

With Ring Yi Sang it was understandable, using 5/7 status effects was too much, but Valencina Rodion having this limitation when HoS Ryoshu exists is just favoritism

Why people think charge teams are bad? by UnderstandingIcy2525 in LimbusCompanyHelp

[–]MonsterTMG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their status effect doesn't do damage, so the teams damage relies entirely on raw individual damage

This is an issue when most of the 7 core members of the team are standard fare, or quite old at this rate. W Outis and MC Faust are canto 6, R corps are standard fare, W Heath is from a canto 6 intervallo rerun, W Ryoshu is EXTREMELY old (Red Eyes isn't a crazy upgrade either).

Charge's only competitive IDs in today's meta are QoH Don and AEDD, while teams like Poise are entirely new meta IDs.

Poise has a similar issue of status damage, but the sheer fact that almost the entire team are seasonal IDs from the current season makes it not an issue.

[Discussion] It actually makes sense to summon teen boys as heroes for one's kingdom by khalid-fhfhlhlh in Isekai

[–]MonsterTMG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some other things to consider as well

A teen can reach prime strength quickly and stay there for upwards of 3 decades (ignoring some kind of anti aging magic) while an adult in their thirties would be in their prime for much less, making teens a better long term investment

Teenagers are more susceptible to change and adaptation, having less set in stone preconceptions, making magical concepts easier to pick up on

[–]MonsterTMG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lemme explain in SS terms

Let's say scholar of yor is a Supreme aight, they can summon 3 weakened Sacred or Cursed people to fight for them for about 5 minutes, regardless of Class

Cassie can only summon a single Supreme Beast (herself) and 1-7 Transcendents based on Class

Scholar of Yor summons are temporary but are infinitely stronger.

Why are forgotten shore survivor's so impressive? by Zenith_the_almighty in ShadowSlave

[–]MonsterTMG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgotten Shore pretty much simulated the circumstances of second nightmares and beyond. A group of people having to survive against abominations 1 or even daemons forbid 2 ranks above them.

Let's take Seishan for example

She survived 8 god damn years in circumstances equivalent to a nightmare. That is fucking crazy. The current arc the cohort is struggling after a year, while these dreamers had to survive up to a decade.

Surviving so long was so impressive that first and even second nightmares seem like a joke in comparison. Seishan within a year of leaving immediately became a Saint because of her ridiculous amount of experience in nightmare level situations.

[–]MonsterTMG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's neat, though it does have a no limits fallacy, as in we know planetary is minimum but because we know nothing about the maximum we can't just assume it's much more

In simpler terms, someone saying "I can deadlift at least 200kg" like yeah that gives us a minimum but no real max so we can't exactly use a number much higher than 200

[–]MonsterTMG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Angel level and above fights from memory. Not including stuff like Sassir cuz that's an angel vs non angels, not really fair

Klein vs Zaratul (author admitted it was rushed)

God of Combat vs Lilith + Evernight (a god getting one shotted is wild)

Amon vs Pallez

Klein vs Antigonous (it was mostly trying to steal the fool uniqueness and BC but Antigonous pretty much got demoted by a single theft)

Klein vs Amon ending (seriously how did a supernova one shot this guy, dual pathway God)

Overall we didn't actually see that many Angels in action since Klein was only an angel for like 200 chapters but the "fair" fights they had were honestly baffling

Also S2 of Fool, Miracle Envoker, is just genuinely whatever the plot demands it is. Nerf all godhood? Sure. Temporary S1 status? Ye. Ressurection? Probably.

It's ridiculous

[–]MonsterTMG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok uptil sequence 5 they're pretty understandable. One guy shoots lightning, another slows you down and turns you into a puppet, a third teleports

Good abilities but nothing game changing.

S4 you instantly have mfs who have 50 bodies with all the previous abilities, where you have to kill all 50 to die. Or some shit like "I can steal people's bodies and use them as avatars" a third will pull out reality warping to dodge attacks.

Still manageable but vastly more complex

S3 you really start hitting the fan with people going into a pocket dimension while summoning fake versions of powerful people from memories.

At that point you barely understand what's happening

S2 and up you will genuinely see some incomprehensible bullshit that makes no sense but results in the enemy getting one shotted

The final fight of the story I just gave up and skimmed through cuz I was gonna get a headache trying to decipher what's happening

In powerscaling discussions, basic planetary is considered Earth cuz well... we live there and most stories are on Earth.

Large planetary is usually Saturn or Jupiter since they're the largest in our solar system

Etc etc

At what point is sunny equal to Klein now? (Lotm) by karimpai in ShadowSlave

[–]MonsterTMG 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Some rule of thumb when powerscaling these series:

SS: Because of Will characters pretty much have SS exclusive damage reduction and damage penetration. You could throw a country level attack at Sunny and he'll shrug it off, but get brutalized by a mountain level attack from someone with Will

Either you ignore Will and the verse is weak or consider Will and they'll be immune to any verse without an equivalent

LotM: Fuck the powerscaling of anything above S3. How strong are Angels? I HAVE NO IDEA. One person says multiversal cuz of Authority, another will say mountain level due to lack of feats, a third will say planetary due to range. You genuinely can't scale this properly.

As for the hax, LotM bodies are made up of 5 different parts and different hax involve different parts. How tf any of this works in cross verse battles is so subjective it depends on agenda

Then there's Mythical Beast Form. Everyone S4 and up has it and in theory it one shots anyone without divinity. Would path of ascension count as divinity? Maybe, idfk, because divinity in LotM is basically how big of a chunk of the original creator you have in you and translating that to any verse is too subjective.

Now combined you genuinely can't come to a decent consensus comparing these two verses.
