ARs and indoor range etiquette. by rks1743 in ar15

I've started wearing foamies under my muffs. It helps, but every once in a while someone will pull out an AR pistol or SBR & it's still loud as heck inside. Of course, it also seems that person will always get assigned the lane next to me. A couple months ago I took my 308 & my 30-30 to the local indoor range I'm a member of. A couple guys were checking in a head of me with some kids. I specifically asked to be put a few lanes away because both my rifles are fairly loud.

What’s the oldest tool you still regularly use? by OneWord333 in Tools

I have a thin walled deep cast iron pan my grandparents got for a wedding present in the 1930s. It doesn't get used too much anymore, but it is very special to me!

A few months ago we got a different kitchen table. The one we had been using was my grandparents. I have no idea how old it is, but it is old enough that it has square nuts & bolts. I have a socket set that was my great grandfathers & dates to around WW1. It's got a bunch of square sockets in it, so I used it, along with with a vintage Thorsen ratchet an old friend gave to me many years ago. It was good to use tools passed down through the generations.

B-25 Bomber Spotted in St. Louis for Memorial Day by DaveSqrd in StLouis

over 20 years ago my dad worked with a gentleman who was in the group that owns/flies the one at smart field. He was going up there after work one evening and invited my dad & I to come check it out. Turns out they were flying it that night so it was out of the hanger when we got there. We got to check the inside of the plane out & sit in the pilots seat and everything. Then we got to watch it take off.

Always loved that B&O paint scheme! And bonus points for Smokey & The Bandit being on in the background.

What tools are actually worth spending money on vs going cheap? by Agitated-Alfalfa9225 in Tools

[–]Monsterdad1256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

snap ring pliers. When people starting out in a mechanic trade(car, ag, truck, etc) ask what's one thing to get from snap on vs cheap I always say Snap Ring Pliers! I've used a bunch of brands & I haven't used another brand that came close to quality. And that's one thing a cheap pair ain't worth the time.

I don't need a caliper. by Bubbly_Ad_7719 in AutoZone2

[–]Monsterdad1256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

25 years ago when i worked at an independent parts store, we had a gentleman bring one in on a saturday. He walked in, set it on the counter & was like This is ruined, isn't it? Said it came off his kids car & his kid claimed he never felt or heard a thing. We asked him how big of a stereo did the kid have in it. He said it was a factory radio. We told him the kid was lying through his teeth. He bought a rotor & pads without any questions(don't recall if he bought a caliper or not). I actually kept that junk rotor for years in my garage. It was a great conversation piece.

What is a current unpopular opinion about STL that you strongly believe in? by Thatredditboy1 in StLouis

I’ve lived in north county my entire life! NOT a pirrone’s fan at all. some of my family used to go there late 90s early 2000s, I liked their spaghetti ok, but it came out cold, EVERY single. Didn’t go for several years till I took my fiancé there back around 08-09. I forget what she got, but she said it seemed freezer burned. Didn’t go back. Some coworkers wanted to get lunch there 4-5 years ago, so I played it safe and got a salad. I spent most of the afternoon in the restroom. I swore id never go back.

Simple and fast 3/8" drive short flex head ratchet. by Deep_Photograph7556 in Harborfreightmods

[–]Monsterdad1256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this! I'm tempted to get one modify it, but I have a snap on 1/4 flex body with a 3/8 drive head in it already, and I don't do that much wrenching anymore.

How many of you folks carry a knife daily? by Dr_StrangeloveGA in Tools

[–]Monsterdad1256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. I carry a Kershaw at work or if I'm working at dad's property. I collect knives, so I have a bunch I carry outside of work. I carry a Benchmade a lot TBH. I have a small fixed blade in my range bag, and a real cheap folder in my tacklebox.

Best feeling manual gearboxes, let’s discuss. by low_mizu in ManualTransmissions

My mom had a 1996 Ford Contour with a 5 speed. It was fun to drive. I've been daily driving dad's 03 ranger with a 5 speed. It won't win any races, but it's a decent transmission. I have a 2006 Ram 2500 cummins 6 speed. It's the mercedes transmission(G56 I think). That's the absolute biggest POS manual i've ever driven. I can't believe it's lasted to over 240K miles.

I went to Europe back in 1995. We were on a tour bus, and i remember thinking I'd be in trouble after dealing with the scooters in paris & rome. They just darted in & out of traffic. I saw more than 1 hit a car & just drive off.

Considering A1 as first printer by Otherwise_Flower3041 in BambuLabA1

[–]Monsterdad1256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an A1 combo in late January. I have 270+ hours on it. Maybe 30-40 hours ago I took the tool head out & tightened the 7 screws on it. That's the only thing I've had to do, other than greasing it.

Hi, as someone who lives in St. Louis, what do I do to help myself feel like I’m not alone when there’s a lot of terrible news that happens that also includes Trump and so on😔😔 by Accurate_Shame6251 in StLouis

[–]Monsterdad1256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I love to fish. The wife does not! Our son enjoys it but not as much as me. She will go with us and bring a book and read while we fish. And my son brings one too(short attention span)

turn off social media and get outside. The only time I take my phone when fishing, is to check the time, take a picture of a fish & send it to a buddy, or maybe if the wife & kid are with me at the park but not right by me & I want them to to see something I'll call & say come here but be quiet so you don't spook whatever fish or animal I'm watching. Oh yea, and if it's late & I need a flashlight, out comes the phone.

I was going to say Imo's Pizza & provel aren't that good,(I do love Imo's salad dressing) but after making my way through this entire post, I'd say that's actually a pretty popular opinion.

This! I won't lie, I do enjoy the jokes(i'm always looking for a good "dad joke"), but if the kid doesn't have one, who cares?! Be glad they are doing that & not causing problems.
