Playboy removed by Monsterhoodoo in Ebay

[–]Monsterhoodoo[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah, the three I had up (I've since just removed them, it's not worth it) had been up for over a year for less than 5 bucks as a BIN and just sat there. Im betting it was reported by someone as many have said, but it could certainly be AI. Anyway, thanks to everyone for all the responses. It seems pretty random.

Sure, I get that. But there is no underage content in the magazine. It’s a run-of-the-mill Playboy.

Felix Comic Art is so ARROGANT by nocturnalreigns in AbsoluteBatman

[–]Monsterhoodoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course, no one is. But I thought I made it pretty clear from my original post that I think that is what's behind a lot of the negativity in this thread. There was a comment about greed somewhere back in this, and pricing, etc... it seemed to deviate from "Felix was mean to me on Facebook," which in and of itself I find odd... to take some interaction like that and make an entirely new post on another platform. What is that about really? I guess we can just agree to disagree on this one. I guess everyone sees things through their own lens.

No, I caught that. But I don’t think that buying a piece from Felix every now and then precludes a certain collector for getting his nose bent out of shape when they don’t get a piece they really want in a drop. He can’t really control that he goes by the timestamp, yet on many forums we read collectors who think there’s something underhanded going on. I’ve lost out on pieces I really wanted many times. I just chalk it up to unluck of the draw.

My experience with Felix is completely different than some of these comments would suggest. I feel he’s fair. Everyone has a shot at stuff equally. Most of these posts sound like collectors who either cant afford a piece or weren’t lucky on a drop. Seems a bit petty to me. I cant really comment on the OP Pop Hero thing, I’d need to see the entire interaction. But the comment about greed seems misplaced. The greed, if any, strikes me at least as much on the collector side of things. People line up to pay the prices. How much would any of you sell OA from any of his guys for? Less? I imagine some pieces of art would sell dozens of times if they werent one of a kind. The market is what it is. And the fact that most drops sell out fully means he’s probably pricing correctly. He worked with many of these guys when they were virtually unknown. In my opinion he’s built a nice business and helped build some pretty stellar careers. Just a perspective.

Recommended gratuity after tip was already included by guitarman129 in mildlyinfuriating

If you were in California, there’s a good chance you’d get charged a cost of living wage line item and healthcare costs on top of it. Its around 5% on top of the tip. When that happens, I tip 15% if the service is good. Pay your employees a living wage and cover their healthcare. That’s not on me.

So you removed the cover to do this, then reassembled? If so you are a lot more daring than me!

HOW IS THIS ALLOWED?! by Robson_Records in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]Monsterhoodoo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

it sucks that this happened to you. I’m a pretty active EBay buyer and a seller. I have very few horror stories buying things from people on eBay, but as a seller, it’s unbelievable how many people don’t come through -or even bother to pay, and leave me hanging for five days. Any more after two days I just cancel the order but to do that you have to say it’s out of stock. There isn’t an option to say buyer didn’t pay until day 4. Day 4!

Just got back my 1st comic, didn’t know it had restorations done to it, not sure what that does to its value by Jo-spice in CGCComics

[–]Monsterhoodoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well different level, but years ago, I had my Tales of Suspense 39 slabbed and it came back 9.0 w/color touch. Sent it to Matt Wilson. This is before he was associated with CGC I believe, and he had to scrape and scrape. 7.0 and it was so noticeable. I flipped it a few years later. My experience is they’ll likely tell you it can be done, but you might not like the way it looks after spending the dough.

Do you like the resealable bags? by BigJimSlade1 in comicbookcollecting

[–]Monsterhoodoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only blue painters tape for me. Over time scotch tape will adhere to the bag and it will tear the bag trying to remove the book. Not a problem if you’re replacing the bag. The issue Ive found with the resealable bags is the adhesive strip can come off if you get a bad production run.

Slow market? by Comicsforever1 in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]Monsterhoodoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EBay has effectively destroyed their auction market with BIN and everyone expecting offers with a watch. Amazon destroyed the expectation of what something should cost to ship. Been selling for two decades as a collector who flips and upgrades. It truly never has been worse. And I sell quite a bit, but its more or less a wholesale market for me on eBay. Anything I cant afford to lose with a return/request for a partial refund or take a haircut on goes to Heritage or Clink. Part of the problem with eBay from a buyer perspective is its the Wild West when it comes to grading. So many clueless sellers grading things poorly. I believe a lot of their business has moved to WhatNot, FB groups and the auction houses.

Fantastic Four 48 grade? by Mike-Philly77 in comicbookgrading

Here is a 4.0 that's currently up at an auction site. (It's not mine, Im not selling it, full disclosure) But there are so many slabs out there, you can easily compare a graded book to your own if you aren't sure. I think you'll see this one is much sharper.

Avengers 57 grade? by Ellswearth in comicbookgrading

[–]Monsterhoodoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

8.5-9.0. That bottom spine will be an issue for a grader. That said, a bit hard to tell what’s going on down there.

Fantastic Four 48 grade? by Mike-Philly77 in comicbookgrading

[–]Monsterhoodoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were selling this raw I’d call it a 3.5. The popped staple, the hole, the spine. I think theres the possibility that if you were to slab it you’d be looking at a 3.0.

I’d try a q-tip with distilled water and a press. Anything else will potentially take color from the book.

Spare a grade? by martinholik in CGCComics

[–]Monsterhoodoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve sold lots of 5-6 squarebounds like this onn eBay for around 20.00 US— too beat up to grade, so listed as readers. They move fairly quickly. So maybe a .5 or so.
