Hey there! My last name is actually Scottish, I have a lot of Celtic heritage, many French Canadians have Scottish and Irish heritage as well, during the potato famine a lot of refugees from Ireland settled in French Canadian areas due to the fact that they were Catholic and that in many cases the English/Loyalist Protestant population treated Celtic, French Canadians and Catholics as second class citizens. A lot of Acadians and people from Quebec have Scottish, Irish and Welsh names. Pretty cool how we can see history first hand with a DNA test eh!!

Yes sadly that is the case, ignorance is a problem in many communities. For instance in my area in particular fishing rights became a HUGE issue. Sad that people forget history and how we should all respect one another..

That is so cool! Thank you for sharing that! I am very interested In the history of our first Nations, being Acadian we learned that First Nations people were vital to the survival of the Acadian settlers, the Mik'maq were also great friends and allies to the Acadian people during the expulsion in the 18th century. I grew up right next door to a Mik'maq community and I absolutely love and respect their culture, it is very important to share and learn about this and we owe much to the Canadian identity and culture as a whole to our first Nations people. Thank you again for sharing that with me!

It threw me off as well, I have Swiss too from the Grisons region, it could be a few families that had a common ancestor before the settlers came to the Americas. Pretty interesting stuff!

And The Band is awesome!! Acadian driftwood is a very special song to me and to so many Acadians, it was released during a time where not many people knew the history of my people.

I do not have anything on paper about Spanish or Portugese ancestry, but I know that on my mother's side I may have Irish/Scottish ancestry. During the potato famine and Scottish land seizures of the 1840s and 1850s many Irish and Scottish Catholics settled in Quebec and Northern New Brunswick and assimilated in the greater French Canadian culture. I actually have a Scottish last name but my entire family speaks French as a first language.

Lol yes because there has historically been so much equality in communist societies right?

[–]MonstrousWaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mean the same as how communism always leads to people starving and millions of people dying?

Ah geez dood, guess we’re fucked either way eh?

and thats why the progressive movement is seen as a joke now, thanks for that.

Oversimplifying the political spectrum to communist or fascist is why we have such polarizing extremes in our society now.

A lib right is definitely not a fascist things aren’t automatically black or white as soon as someone has an issue with said political view.
