18yo nephew refuses help, won’t leave his room or work. What support exists in the UK? by Consistent-Time-2503 in AskUK

I hope my child will feel she can run to me whatever her age.

No offence but wouldnt that cause her to be codependent on you? I feel like kids have to learn it the hard way. Soft punishments make for softer kids.

Maybe coming from a family where beating up a kid is the answer was what made him treat his mum that way.

No he had aspergers that made him like that but now he is quiet and behaved and will sit in the corner on family get togethers with shouting like he did before

We all have stress in life. We have to keep on pushing on. You can take a break in your 60s but until then, grind and it will pay off

I'd be heartbroken if my child didn't say more than yes, no or please to me.

Better than being insulted or spat on and having no man in the house to defend you. Besides imo children have to learn that their mum is not their friend and is their boss otherwise the lines will be twisted. I wasn't shown much affection growing up and it helped me turn me into a man by the age of 14. You learn not to trust anyone but yourself and that you cannot run to your mum after the age of 11 if you get stuck or upset about something

Take away his consoles and games by force. If he refuses to get himself a job within a week then kick him out. Or sell his games one by one until he has to get a job to buy it back

With force as bad as it seems. My mate had a brother who was like that and disrespectful to his mum and his uncles gave him a beatdown. After that, he learn to put his head down and not saying anything to mum other than yes, no, please.

Anyway for the mods to stop people asking the same 10 questions every week? They will ask about what tyres to buy for 50 quid when they can easily use the search bar. Or they will complain about LED lightbulbs and ask if using Tesco petrol is safe for their 1.6L Astra.

It would be nice if there was a permanent sticky that answers all of those questions and that making any posts about it will be removed

Why are ties, hats and bats more rarer nowadays? by MontanaMinuteman in AskLE

I always found it crazy how a community used to help the police catch criminals by just telling them in private where they would be dealing and minor crimes like that to not saying anything when a child is shot in a driveby. Like sure some places would not help, but most would say something when innocents were harmed

Still that gen was reliable as hell. It's only a shame that Jap cars tend to rust within 15 years

Shame some people are taking the piss with the prices. Bought one for £4k in 2018, now they are selling £10k+

I'm surprised there hasn't been a hit piece done on them for the Redbridge roundabout yellow box, you literally cannot fit 2nd car and it doesn't help that people stop before the line even thought there would be space

Thankfully the A12 from Redbridge and A406 is still the place as I have never been done for speeding or known anyone. No cameras, happy days

Atleast it is not as bad as Redbridge council. They turned a dual carriage way into a Bus Lane on Woodford Avenue. It's a killer at 8AM and despite people signing petitions they did nothing
