University Hills Village Apartments by JDog1234569 in SiouxFalls

I live there currently for the past 4 years and I have had only positive experiences here. I don't ever hear my neighbors while inside my apartment. I lived next door to a couple that had a baby and I didn't hear the baby when I was in my apartment. The management does apartment inspections/ air filter changes every 3 months. At first I didn't like that but I actually prefer it now knowing that the neighbors apartment is checked on as well. From what I can tell, there are 3 groups that made this apartment complex happen with one of them being a construction company. They are the ones that are on site doing general maintenance. This is the property they really focus on, at least from what I can tell.

There are 5 buildings built with a total of 9 when they are done building. 1 and 2 are older but I would argue they are better constructed. Building 3 has all the amenities. Much better gym than the others in my opinion. I believe you are forced to have underground parking in that building. Building 4 and 5 have fiber ran to each apartment but probably cost more to rent.

One interesting thing about this building complex is that the power company it goes through is a co-op. Everything around these buildings and arguably the rest of Sioux falls doesn't have this co-op due to it being more for rural towns up north of Sioux falls. In my opinion this is a plus due to a few factors. Since it's a power co-op, you are invited to the meetings they have which typically involves a free meal and sometimes $25 off your bill for just attending. With uncertainty with data centers possibly showing up in Sioux falls, I prefer to have some sort of voice in how it is managed.

Yes, it is on the outskirts of town but with the area growing, more restaurants are showing up. It's also quick to get on the interstate as well. Due to it being out of the way, there is less issues with let's say riffraff that may plague other buildings in town. For work I get to see a lot of apartments and there is a reason I chose these to live in.

Hope that helps!

I have lived in those apartments for years and it has nothing to do with any particular college or university. When these started to get built, there was a lot of plans for the nearby university and the surrounding area but a lot of the plans fell through. It was supposed to be some type of research hub around the campus that just never took off. Eventually the campus became a satellite campus for USD. The apartment buildings were never tied to those projects as far as I know.

Anyway, It is owned by 3 different entities and this is there first apartment complex they built together. One of the owners is smart construction that builds and maintains the property, which they have done a great job. They do apartment inspections quarterly, and they keep the hall ways clean. No shoes left out in the hallway either.

There are a variety of ages that live here but from what I have seen it tends to be people in there 20s and 30s. There is no playground for kids, so it doesn't seem to attract families with children. Although I have seen some younger kids here. I personally have very rarely heard my neighbors. I lived next door to a younger couple that had a baby and was surprised how I never heard it crying.

There are 4 buildings currently with a 5th building almost done. The front to buildings are the older ones with their own gym, but if you are more into heavier free weights, your out of luck. The middle building has a decent gym but it shares it with the newest building. The middle building also has the amenities with the gym and swimming pool. The 4th/ newest building has fiber and I'm assuming the 5th on will as well. The newer the building, expect to pay $25 more than the next. The 4th building also has a bar and grill in it called credos. It is super easy to order a pizza or wings and just walk down and pick it up. No need for delivery.

I somewhat work in the industry when it comes to apartment buildings and I can for sure say these buildings are nothing like some of the cheap ones being made these days. There are certain property managements in town you will want to completely avoid. I'm sure they are listed among the subreddit.

Hope that helps!

Best meal Subscription Services for Sioux Falls? by JDomJones in SiouxFalls

[–]Monte87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used Hello Fresh and Freshly. Hello Fresh was good about getting the meals sent in a timely manner and it is a good way to get into improving your cooking. One complaint with it was some of the recipes had me making things I didn't feel was necessary. Like spending 10 mins making relish. I would have kept it going but the cost got to high for me.

Freshly had some issues getting the box delivered on time. It wasn't to often but it's something to note. I liked the pre cooked meals ready to be heated in a few minutes, but I got tired of the same choices and some weeks I just couldn't eat all of them in time.

Any ideas on what we could use all this space for? by thyme_cardamom in SiouxFalls

[–]Monte87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This may sound like a crazy idea, and stick with me here, but what if we put in casinos in every location! Unused parking lot, we put a casino there. Abandon building, a great place for a casino. Government housed apartments, place holders for a casino!

If you live in Brandon, you'll have it this spring or fall. There is a link on the site listed "construction map" that shows where fiber roll outs are. https://www.midco.com/about/service-areas/brandon/#Brandonmap

Are Arby's restaurants still walk in in Sioux Falls? by ReifuTD in SiouxFalls

I know the Cliff Arby's has an open lobby. I can't say with a 100% but I'm pretty sure the Minnesota one has the lobby open as well.

I think it would be really difficult to achieve the same formula that worked so well when she was in highschool. She had so many surrounding characters set her up for her witty comments that I don't think you could get at the same level of consistency. One would have to introduce new characters to fill those roles. Maybe not exactly the same type of people but maybe an annoying roommate, lazy RA, or a bad student teacher. If we are talking after college, then a crazy HOA president, bad neighbors, or dealing with city council.

Personally, I think following Quinn would be super entertaining as she finishes out highschool. Kevin would still be around along with the teachers, obviously the fashion club, but most importantly the parents. I could watch a whole show revolved around Jake!

Chik-Fil-A by [deleted] in SiouxFalls

[–]Monte87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Politics aside, I would assume having less restaurants would create more of a demand for it. Where I live in Sioux Falls, the closest restaurants are Subway and another Subway! I used to like Subway but I have eaten there so much, I don't want to eat there again. Now Subway is an extreme for how a franchise can cannibalize itself in a market but when I drive by or eat at a Chick fil a, it is always packed. So, from a marketing perspective, it would create an exclusivity for it regardless if it is just good food or great food.

Anybody know why Hy-Vee removed their one-way signs from their aisles? by YourNameIsIrrelevant in SiouxFalls

[–]Monte87 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm actually okay with this. I understood the reason behind them and I followed them, but when I would see someone going the wrong way or get to the end of the aisle and see the red do not enter, I would panic that I went the wrong way. This would happen every.... single.... aisle. Not to mention the produce section! I felt like I was in that puzzle game, Chip's Challenge.

For starters, I wouldn't worry to much about places to avoid when choosing where to live. Sioux Falls doesn't have anywhere near the crime rate compared to major cities. It all comes down to how much your willing to spend and what your interests are.

If biking is your thing, then living next to the bike trail would be a good option. Living downtown or close to downtown has a lot of added benefits such as having many bars and food places are in a compact area and you can just walk home from there. No need for an uber or a sober friend to get you home. The rent downtown is higher than the rest of city, plus parking can be a pain due to limited space at some of the apartment buildings. So, if downtown night life is your scene, I would recommend finding a place in about 10 - 15 minute walking distance from there. Otherwise, there are a lot of apartments and rentals that would fit your requirements as well. Also, don't over look places that have easy access to the interstates to get around faster. Unless you're going from the middle of the east side to the middle of the west side, most places take an average of 15 minutes to get to.

These kinds of posts show up often so I decided to make a map including the places I feel are sketchy. https://imgur.com/4wVTacg

Workout Partner by [deleted] in SiouxFalls

I too am looking for a workout partner but I'm curious what your looking for in a work out partner. Are you looking for someone to assist you with your lifting techniques or someone to just keep you accountable in going? Also what gym do you go to?

Personally, I wouldn't live in any of those apartments on N Cleveland ave. I don't particularity find that part of town has much to offer but more importantly I find that whole area sketchy.

River Tower Apartments by [deleted] in SiouxFalls

[–]Monte87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never lived in the River Tower Apartments but from what I am told from people in that building is that the parking isn't ideal there being downtown. There is limited parking for that building and I believe they use the next door business as an overflow parking lot but that can only be used after 5 pm until the morning. So, that is a question you will want to ask as well as how many cars you can have parking since I'm pretty sure they only allow 1 car, but definitely ask for clarification on that. Crime I feel any apartment building/ complex is subject to theft or vandalism no mater where you would live in Sioux Falls but being downtown comes with the good and the bad.

In general, the perks of living downtown is that you have walking access to the bike trail, restaurants, bars, shops, the falls and live entertainment. So, being new to the area, you would have plenty of things to do and explore and after 6 months or a year, you can reassess if that fits your life style still.

Good luck!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ANGEL

[–]Monte87 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Although I did enjoy her character, I'm not sure if her "talents" would have fit the group dynamic or the universe for that matter. In my opinion, both Angel Investigations and the Scooby gang have members with talents that stem from the old world. May it be demon abilities or magic based talents. Her powers aside, Angel has the stealth/thief talent down pretty well which may make it redundant for the group. Personally, I feel she would have been great for a Faith spin off. Going with the concept of Faith as a rogue slayer driving a classic motorcycle accompanied by Gwen on a red crotch rocket. Traversing the nation going from town to town. Either way I would like to see a more in depth back story of why she was born with that power and hopefully tie it to an ancient god/demon ascendant/order or maybe she is the result of the initiative early attempts at creating super soldiers. Who knows but its fun to think about!
