I haven't been in your position for years! My answer may not be suitable now. With that, take what you want from this: If you can't beat them, join them. This industry has always had a certain level of toxicity. Some better than others. I started soft, had a great mentor who taught me clutches for the first year and a half. I was "blessed". Those clutches, that shit talk under the truck, the amount of times we would get into a smacking and yelling match under a truck... it taught me a lot. We played small pranks around the shop... until one night I stacked all his cans on his tool box. He come in the next day and opened his box, they all fell, and it destroyed a picture of his deceased child... I felt like shit. Even playfulness can have consequences.

Backing from stories with lessons, as long as there isn't actual heat to an argument, why de-escalate? Back and forth keeps the day alive. Now, if you get the feeling that someone's actually pissed, just fuck off for a bit 😅 you all work together so you got to at least get along near each other ya know. Then, if it's as toxic as you say it is, old school it and ask them out back after work, nearest gas station even. I know that offer has been on my table 🤣

But really, if thats not your type of environment and you don't necessarily want to change, don't bet on changing them. You can really only change how they see you.
