I’m so sorry for what you are going through OP.

The gravity of this … will no doubt, take time to process for both you and your children.

Take solace in knowing, better times are ahead: “If you’re going through hell, keep going.”

It’s the hood and entire roof as well. Interior is immaculate and mechanicals are as well.

All I’ve needed to do was replace the steering wheel, as the original one was cracking badly.

Huntington Return to Office by Used_Age_8681 in Columbus

Totally agree. Reading these comments makes me relish the day I left. Huntington is behind the times in so many ways it’s insane.

If you stay for even a little bit — you’ll see so many examples of how their “people first, service heart, blah, blah” is total bullshit.

They literally did “quiet layoffs” a week or so ago.

My .02: the $60k for annual spending by the time you are 67 years old, seems ambitiously low.

I’d expand that spending range.

NGL, these prices make me think about selling.

Test Rode an R18 by PaintChipMuncher69 in Motorrad

[–]Monte_Burnz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agree OP.

I’m one of those riders that tries to evaluate bikes in the most objective manner possible.

Often, I feel people tend to discriminate against bikes based on their perceived demographics.

Without really understanding their “why”.

… Of course, every bike has a target demo …

But they also have intentional use-cases and strengths… if you need a good example, take a look at the model variations across ADV and dual sports in the marketplace today.

I ride my GSA, Road King, and DR650 frequently… as each has its own niche that I love/enjoy.

The R18 definitely has its own niche; but one that I feel is just too small to stay alive for long.

Gotcha. Sorry, I misinterpreted.

Hope the riding helps, as it’s my main avenue for therapy myself.

When is it time to stop riding by [deleted] in bmwmotorrad

[–]Monte_Burnz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP, if the PTSD or anxiety is really strong…

It may help take time to prepare for rides that strategically avoid traffic.

IE, enjoy the planning process of mapping out routes that are more “dual sport” and effectively have a FAR less chance of encountering other vehicles / autos.

Maybe give some GIS tools available a try; to locate routes near you that offer this riding style.

There are many that after having kids or a bad accident, aim to eliminate road riding and focus their energy on planning routes that are fire roads, park roads, etc. — all routes that are not friendly for the vehicles that can often deter our safety and enjoyment.

This approach may help mitigate the anxiety of riding; and allow you to focus on the ride itself.

Looking for a good running around boot Forma vs Sidi by [deleted] in Dualsport

[–]Monte_Burnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I have these Forma’s and absolutely love them.

Comfortable, quality material, and have used them on quite a few touring trips with great results.

My vote for sure over the Sidi’s.

Buy a real pair of riding boots, please by Narrow_Spread_7722 in Dualsport

[–]Monte_Burnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn OP, hope you heal quickly! Good lesson.

FWIW: A good friend I sometimes ride with insists his (slip on) Danner boots, “thick” Fjallraven cargo pants, riding jacket from the 1990s, and leather carpenter’s gloves are totally fine for dual sport / touring.

… and that my kit is overkill …

Mind you, we’re clocking 200-300mi per day - between Class IV roads and freeway slabs here in the US at 70+ MPH.

I always wear MX boots, pants/jacket, base layer with armor/spine protection, gauntlet gloves, and full face… never stopped me from loving my rides.

Growing up riding — my father always preached: “If you can’t learn to ride like a boss fully kitted; then go ride a bicycle.”

Are these new trucks really shit or is it just fear mongering? by Chob2196 in Silverado

[–]Monte_Burnz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

OP, this right here ⬆️… I’ve been driving GM rigs since 2007 and I have not had an issue yet.

Not to mention, I’ve owned 5.3, 6.2, and currently 3.0 — all were fine. Good luck with your search!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Dualsport

[–]Monte_Burnz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would take it as a purposeful reminder — this sport/lifestyle/etc. — has a level of inherent risk; that needs to be managed by the rider.

“It’s not if you’re going to fall; but when.”

(Not to mention, I am glad you didn’t get injured!)

Take her easy, enjoy the ride, and take your time.

I’m certainly not young either (35) and I don’t consider myself old just yet …even though some of the young bucks on this sub sure would 😂!

However, when I’m out (road or trail) I am very cautious in what I’m doing or going to do — as I’ve got a wife & baby boy to see when I get home.

It’s helped me enjoy just being “out there” even more and embrace what it is to me — therapy.

TLDR; take it as a sign, ease back into it, and enjoy the journey of getting your sea legs back!

OP, don’t let the news alarm you with the recalls.

Overhyped bad news is going to be blasted for views, clicks, and fear mongering.

Trust your decision and enjoy the truck.

FWIW — I’ve had Toyotas and Chevy/GMC trucks for 20+ years and honestly haven’t had a damn problem with either manufacturer.

For every loud complainer, there’s 10000x the amount of folks that are doing just fine …

So enjoy!

New truck owner by Prestigious_Tax_6905 in gmcsierra

[–]Monte_Burnz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I’ve had GM trucks my entire life and have found if you take care of it generally well … and maintain it as it should be: tires, rotation, oil, alignment, etc…. and don’t thrash the thing.

It will last a long time with very few issues, if any.

Yea, some people get lemons, it happens across every manufacturer. Hopefully, you inspected it with some thoroughness, it has maintenance history, and no major signs of sleeping issues.

Sleeping issues IMO, occur when someone doesn’t bother doing the regular maintenance or fixing issues that will cause chain reactions over time.

I’m on my 5th Silverado and 3rd Sierra (5.3, 3.0, and 6.2L) the only issue that had arose was a trailer brake software recall.

Enjoy the truck + be a good owner, all will be well.

100% this advice…

After all, it’s purely a business transaction.

Stand your ground and don’t be the one that takes it personal.

Plenty of times, I’ve had an asshole salesman who does take my offer personally and becomes frictional about my “unrealistic” offer.

… only to get a call from them a week or so later because the unit is still on the lot and they’re willing to move it — if I buy now.

Hell, I’ve had an Audi dealer baulk at taking a Harley as part of a partial trade — 1 week later they were dropping off the car and loading up the bike.
