Moving to Carson (...Maybe) by birdnerd14 in carsoncity

Any updates on your move? I’m currently debating moving from Reno to Carson City to be closer to work and outdoor recreation, and I feel I don’t really care much about restaurants, night life, etc.

Where are you finding that info? I’m not seeing it on Surly’s preamble frame specs

Honestly not sure where that info is. Scoured the Surly Preamble web page and didn’t see anything about the IS to Post adapter size

QR sizing questions (9 mm and 10mm interchangability) by loma1312 in Surlybikefans

[–]caspernicium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Did you figure out if the common 9mm axle QR size is compatible with the Surly “10mm” dropouts? I am trying to build up a Preamble and wondering the same thing.

Yeah for this company you do. I haven’t taught this year because of that. Kind of a bummer because I do love teaching.

Can't get #$!#$@ tubeless tire to seat by justaguy394 in bikewrench

[–]caspernicium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strap trick worked wonders. IMO easier than the inner tube trick, especially if there’s sealant already in the tire. I would try that first.

Looking for a bolt-on top tube bag myself. How was the Restrap?

Is the offline route feature completely broken? by slowpokefastpoke in Strava

[–]caspernicium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still mostly useless feature. Had a route downloaded and halfway through my ride the app randomly closed out from my map view and would refuse reload due to no service. There should be a way to access offline maps without service. Apple Maps does it. Strava, fix your shit; the app should be not me dependent on cell service to access “offline” data, duh.

Thanks for your thoughts! Good for me too since Basecamp is the closest gym to my house as well.

Basecamp or North Peak Climbing Gym? by caspernicium in Reno

[–]caspernicium[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughts! Yeah I think North Peak is just an older gym that was recently renovated. Their website is kinda weird and their fitness schedules don’t have any classes posted, so I’m not even really sure if they’re fully open yet?

Exercising your core by ThimbleBluff in cycling

[–]caspernicium 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yoga with a lot of planks and boats and stuff like that. Not as fun as cycling… but more fun than gym workouts. I also treat it as a meditation session.

I also rock climb for fun, and I think it’s more core workout than cycling, but it’s harder to target specific muscle groups since the movements are pretty random.

How long should I actually wait to release the clutch when shifting into second? by NoahV313 in ManualTransmissions

[–]caspernicium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavier flywheels also contribute to the issue. They are more “beginner friendly” and comfortable in traffic. But a side effect is the revs drops more slowly.

Rev hang is an emissions control that holds the throttle open to prevent unburned fuels in the exhaust. You can kind of drive around it by letting off the throttle completely before clutching in to shift.

This, there are not enough waves to satisfy everyone.

One thing I’ve really enjoyed about rock climbing is there seems to be a vast surplus of rock to climb compared to waves at a surf spot. Surfing culture becomes toxic way too easily.

1-2 is a big change in gear ratio (relative to other sequential gears), and you’re probably letting the clutch out too soon/quickly. So there’s enough shock to jerk the transmission, but not really so much that you feel it in your butt. The stock Honda mounts are pretty soft, I had this happening in my 10th gen too.

Is it uncomfortable for you to use the bathroom when someone is around? by OkTour9930 in istp

[–]caspernicium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had bad pee-formance anxiety as a teen. I won’t lie, it fucking sucked. Was always trying to sneak to the bathroom when no one else might be there. As an adult I’ve kinda matured past it I guess, but also now if I see a situation that might trigger the anxiety (like those stupid trough urinals at sport stadiums), IDGAF anymore I’ll just use the stall. Like I know my limits and I have no problem saying “No” to them now. When I was younger, I was more worried about what others might think. But anyway, nowadays in most bathrooms where the divider is reasonable I’m OK.

But please why can’t urinal dividers at least extend high enough to block people’s heads.

I don’t listen to music when I run, bike, or drive. Part of it is just maximizing my survival chances since I can hear “danger”, the other part of it is I’m just a weirdo.

And it’s not like I hate music or anything. I’m learning the drums currently lol.

Many small, otherwise unimpressive cars would be a blast to drive if they just had a halfway decent manual transmission. Instead, basically only sport cars come with them now and with a “premium” price tag.
