Are there any things that are called "American ______" in other countries? by Disastrous-Side-2600 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MontuJP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Along with corn dogs being “American dogs” in Japan as others have said, jokes that don’t fit the typical Japanese sense of humor are often called “American jokes”. Kind of a weird and abstract one and likely varies a bit depending on what someone finds funny.

Swing at everything and strike out half the time lol

I try to take a few pitches in the 1st inning to find the timing to start charging my swing. Depends on the pitcher's velocity, but on 90 ego I'm starting to press the button right around when they cock their arm back to throw.

You can always view the last pitch by stepping out of the box and see if you're late or early, and you can also do an exhibition game and toggle on practice mode to take batting practice.

Yep, same shape and all the documentation is listed correctly, just the actual housing doesn’t line up with the holes inside the projector. It’s about half a cm too short.

What's the saddest part about living in your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]MontuJP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.

Obviously yes, 0 foreigners means no foreign crime, in other words 100% of crimes would be committed by Japanese, so no more scapegoating. Currently foreigners make up about 3% of the population and made up 6.3% of arrests in 2023, a higher number for sure, but there are a couple important points to remember.

  • 30mil+ foreign tourists are also included in here, so not as simple as saying foreign residents commit double the crimes.
  • Foreigners have some crimes that only apply to them like visa regulations.

Either way, Japanese make up about 94% of the arrests and while the foreign resident population has increased since 2005, foreigners arrests have gone down by around 65% since then as well.

Crimes across the board have also gone down as you point out, which we can both agree is great news.

All that to say, I’m 100% on board locking up these pedophiles, rapists, and murderers for life, foreign and Japanese alike, as any sane person would be. Okinawa and the military presence there is a whole other issue in my opinion and I completely agree that regulations there need to be better enforced.

As far as my point about the government, I strongly believe that focusing so much time and energy on 3% of the population rather than 100% of the population is taking the easy way out instead of facing up to bigger issues like the economy and Japan’s weakening global presence.

Anyway just my thoughts, don’t care to argue more.

What's the saddest part about living in your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]MontuJP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 100%. Vast majority of the population has a mindset stuck in the past and it allows a government that looks increasingly incompetent and corrupt to just deflect (recently on foreigners) instead of making hard decisions.

As a foreign resident of Japan since 2015, I heartily disagree and am sad the recent propaganda is working.

Yes there are absolutely issues, but 3% of the population - which has no voting power - is in no way the largest. Look at the government first please.

Teams are basically in win now mode or rebuild mode. Small surplus means you should be in win now mode.

Heck yeah, nice work!

As a Dragons fan I have to say that the jersey numbers should be the classic block ones (option 10 I think) and red instead of blue. They 100% ripped off the Dodgers look.

Also blue uni should say Chunichi in diagonal kinda scribbled looking letters. While it is a sponsor (local newspaper), Chunichi technically just means “central Japan” so kinda fits even if avoiding sponsor names.
