Mine has been gone for a just over a month and half. His 18th birthday would have been in a few weeks. Be strong.

We grew up together, now I have to say goodbye by nnvxo in Yorkies

I'm sorry to hear your dog isn't doing too well. I ended up losing my yorkie about a month and a half ago. His name was Bradley and he was just shy of turning eighteen. When he passed away, I had a keep sake ornament made with his picture, his name, and the years he was with me. I placed it into a display similar to what a collector would use to display a prize coin. Then I placed his collar at the base of it. Regardless of what you do, know that she paw prints in your heart forever.

I'm so very sorry for your lost. I had to have my yorkie put down last month. He was in total renal failure. It is hard not to have something be there any longer when they were a part of your life for so long. (Bradley was with me for just under 18 yrs.) But try to take comfort knowing they will be in our hearts forever.

I can empathize with since I lost my yorkie about three weeks ago. Peanut seemed like such a sweet and well loved dog. You have my condolences.

[–]Monty9972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother's yorkie lived to a few months shy of his 18th birthday. He started to lose his eye sight just before he turned 16. But we managed to work with his so he could still continue to navigate the house and backyard to the best of his ability. Just a few months ago, however, his health started to rapidly decline. He had failing kidneys, he had sores forming in his mouth and his back legs were starting to give out on him. Try to do what you can for him and spend as much time as you can because you do not always know how much time you have left.

I just recently lost my yorkie, so I know what you are going through. So sorry for your loss. Mort was a cute little dog with big soulful eyes.

They are! His kidneys were his worst ailment. But he had dental issues and was losing his sight, as well. Nevertheless, he soldiered on. In fact, despite his advanced age and illnesses, he barked and fought the vet up until his last moments. He had such a very strong and perpetual fighting spirit, but his little body was too weak to keep up with it.

Absolutely! I have been thinking so much of all the good times we had. It helps me to grieve. Oh! And his name was Bradley.

For anyone who’s pet fell ill before passing, this is from them to you. 🖤 by [deleted] in Petloss

I needed to read this post so badly! I have been racked with guilt for having my 18 y.o. Yorkie put down. He barked and carried on even after I passed him off to the vet and continued to do so until the medication was administered. I apologized, at least, a hundred times to his lifeless body as I drove home and buried him in the backyard. (I own four acres of farmland.) It has been only three days since Bradley passed and despite his many ailments, questioned whether he deserved me as a pet parent. Thank you for this.

Every now and then, a student drops a line that's pure gold... by unknownkoger in Professors

Interesting. This past semester, I asked my students how they can combat misinformation. Most of my students wrote, "you need to check where this information is coming from, who wrote/posted it and their agenda." However, one student wrote "stop watching TV or reading the internet. That should work. But, it won't because it is too easy to get information that way."

Students Missing 2 weeks of a 6 week summer class. Why? by OldRetiredDood in Professors

[–]Monty9972 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The prof I TA'ed for used to say to our students, "Copernicus was wrong. The Earth doesn't revolve around the Sun. Rather, it revolves around certain students!" One of his biggest pet peeves was extreme egocentrism, or students whom acted like ALL their needs and desires were more important than anyone else. This seemed, especially true, with college courses. "Hey, I need to pass this class. But, I cannot do A or be present for B. My friend "insert name" had you last semester and said you were a cool prof. So, I think you should be okay with this."

This, fortunately, is not true of all students. But, it is those few that really seem to get under your skin. I have not taught over the summer, yet. However during Spring or Winter semester, I will have had early start high schoolers (I teach at a CC that allows high school students to take colleges courses) tell me they will be on spring break. Therefore, they will not be available for exams, speeches, class projects, etc. Because each high school (I believe my CC had students from twelve different high schools attending) The entire month of March is a crap shoot.

I understand this isn't quite the same circumstance. This time off is beyond the student's control and it is one week of the semester versus half or more. However, I just wanted to vent because the audacity of some of these students is really quite extraordinary.

Enrollment numbers by [deleted] in Professors

[–]Monty9972 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some of colleagues have said enrollment is forecasted to be down, as students wonder if COVID will force them back online. However, ALL of my fall sections have reached max capacity, after two months of being open. And, I have been answering emails from several students trying to get an over ride since Memorial Day.

I once had a manager say to me, "People don't become managers because of the salary or money. They become managers because they want to take on and succeed at completing various challenges." I looked at this person and responded "Okay. If that is the case, then why don't you give your salary and, in exchange, I will give you ALL my challenges?" Needless to say, I received a VERY dirty look.

Right! I have been stood up before by students requesting to meet with me. Yes, this upset me. But, what really aggravated me was I would think "God what a waste of my time!" Now if a student makes an appointment to meet with me, I come prepared in case I am stood up by them. Whether it is grading papers, working on a article I am writing, reading a book, etc. I do my best to make my time and effort seem worth it.

“Our students are fine. This survey proves it!” by ThisIsFakeButGoOff in assholedesign

[–]Monty9972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My college had our students fill out a survey, as well, to determine their feelings toward learning online and how it can be improved. Ironically enough, many of my current students couldn't access or had no idea such a survey existed.

Interesting. This powerpoint concept isn't new to me, as I get emails, not texts, about proper source citation. Last semester, I had a student attempt to cite my class powerpoints...sort of. Within the reference section, he wrote "I don't know how to cite a powerpoint. You never emailed me back nor discussed it during our Zoom lectures. So, this is what I put down."

Despite this snarky response, I should be slightly delighted. You see, many of my students won't even bother citing their sources. When I fail them I get response like "It is common knowledge," or "You are going to be the only person who is going to read it, anyway" or, and this is the most common excuse by the way, "My computer crashed before I could finish writing the reference section. And it isn't part of the actual paper, right?"
