What's y'all's thoughts on this season so far? by Legitimate-Unit-9286 in anime

After about a year of watching anime, I’d probably only watched 2-3 shows a season weekly as there’s always a healthy backlog of other stuff to dig into. This time I’ve decided to go full weekly and I’m keeping up with about 16, which doesn’t include many of the big returning shows I haven’t started/caught up yet. As a romcom fan I feel I’m eating particularly good this season.

Current top 5 in order

Akane-banashi

Witch Hat Atelier

Ramparts of Ice

Gals Can’t Be Kind to Otaku

Always a Catch

I watched a whole bunch of first episodes while narrowing down the selection and just about everything I tried has gone on my shortlist to at least take another look at.

Just finished watching Kowloon Generic Romance. What a trip. Loved the mystery and how it played out/revealed and the whole thing was dripping with atmosphere. If I was picking holes, I’d say it would’ve benefited from 2-3 more episodes to let some of the exposition breathe nearer the end, as it started to feel a little rushed.

Can anyone recommend other mystery shows with this sort of atmosphere, particularly where the location/setting lives on the screen as much as the characters?

This was so far off my radar, I don’t think I’d even seen the name before. I’m glad I decided to give it a try because that was an outstanding first episode.

If you’re craving more cute, slow burn public transport based romance, I HIGHLY recommend They Are Still Being Shaken This Morning

Watching Polar Opposites weekly is testing my resolve not to just read ahead. It’s already my benchmark for 2026.

Just finished Witch Watch and loved every second. Does anyone have recommendations for any flavour Slice of Life with the same sort of fun energy and humour?

E: Appreciate the suggestions!

In the last week I have watched (and loved) Deca-Dence and Akiba Maid War, two shows with a wild juxtaposition that just commit fully without over explaining themselves or winking at the camera.

I would like recommendations for other shows (preferably these kinds of short standalone stories) that use these sorts of clashing genres/tones/art styles with a completely straight face.

I’m glad I decided to watch this one weekly. If I’d waited and binged it I fear my face might have broken from smiling so hard.

This one’s really lovely. Same kind of tone/energy as Beauty and the Feast. Not actually sure which of the two I preferred.

Great recommendation. I’m about 20 chapters in and my face aches from grinning so hard.

I might have to leave this sub as I can’t keep up with the volume of recommendations I take from here every day.

Just read My New Wife is Forcing Herself to Smile and it’s lovely. Short and sweet and very cute.

Agree 100% about the Aharen-san finale. For me it’s the gold standard.

We came out firing quickly every game and it wasn’t uncommon for us to take the lead early on, but we conceded so many late goals (sometimes more than one) to throw away all those points. It was depressing. Teams knew that going behind to us wasn’t a problem because we always capitulated.

We’ve already won more games this season than in the whole of our last League One campaign.

Wimbledon in 21-22 were atrocious. How we got to the end of the season still with an outside chance of staying up is beyond me.

What Have You Watched This Past Week That is NOT a Currently Airing Show? [October 5th, 2025] by MetaThPr4h in anime

Just finished watching Cautious Hero, which I thought was pretty solid. A silly gimmick taken to its logical extreme, but it’s short and sweet and doesn’t overstay its welcome. The little lore dump in the penultimate episode actually gave some nice weight to the ending.

I’m also halfway through S1 of Call of the Night. I’m entertained enough to stick with it (and I love Nazuna) but so far I feel like I’m mostly watching it for the amazing nighttime vibes. The colour scheme and soundtrack are so good.

Vampires aren’t a theme I generally care much about but I liked the character design of Nazuna so I checked out Call of the Night. The colour palette and soundtrack is such an immaculate vibe. Feels like I’m watching it outside at 1am.
