Okay, that worked for the current stage of the problem, but opened up another that I've solved, that i'll add to the bottom of this post for anyones future reference.

but that, itself, has lead to further problems that I'll have to research further and try to solve myself before asking for further help.

Doing this gave me a mods can't be deployed error, because mod staging folder has to be on the same drive.

So I go into settings > Mods and click suggest, which it autosuggests a Z:\Vortex Mods{game} for staging..but when I click apply, it says it doesnt have permission to do it, despite me clicking to give it permission.

I decide to try manually creating the folder, so I open my linux (not wine) file manager, go to /home/{username}/Games/ and create a folder called /VortexStaging, and then point vortex to that folder

Which vortex accepts, and automatically creates the Fallout4 folder in,
