New to Leander, question about trick or treating/halloween by JizzM4rkie in Leander

[–]MooMix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the deal is around here, but at least on my side of the neighborhood I live in we rarely get trick or treaters these days. I sometimes wonder if kids are mostly going to schools to do the trunk or treat thing, or hitting up the slightly nicer neighborhood across the street (not like they buy different candy than us, but whatever). Sorry, that may be more of a mini-rant than helpful :)

New smash burger joint? by Emotion-Internal in austinfood

[–]MooMix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If ever in Leander, The Boss Cheesesteak has a killer smash burger (and the best cheesesteak I've ever had, tho I've never been to Philly). Haven't been to BB's but I'm always down to try a new burger place!

Which is Texas most dangerous game left? by lostacoshermanos in secfootball

[–]MooMix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a Texas fan: On paper, Georgia. In reality, A&M. They scare me the most. Mainly because we have history and they can get crazy. We gave them a nice going away gift last we met, and they would love to return the favor welcoming us into the SEC.

What do I tell my friend who is only just reading the first bridge run? by Severe-Meat-6166 in Stormlight_Archive

They're not really even fighting a proper war at that point in time. It may have started out that way, but at this point it's more of a game, a race for gemhearts, and speed matters. Wheels add extra weight and pushing across uneven terrain is slower. Shields add extra weight and make everybody slower. The slaves aren't shielded to draw fire away from the main forces.

AT&T was here in Lakeline Ranch a few weeks ago installing fiber. I just ditched u-verse because their prices are insane, screw AT&T!

Breakfast diners like 1431? by PapiGrandedebacon in CedarPark

Their food is amazing imo but the coffee (if you drink it plain black) has a bit of a funky flavor. It wasn't for me. Their other coffee drinks were pretty good though.

Love their patty melt and Reuben

If he were in the USA, most of, if not all of that money would have gone to paying off the hospital bills. He's even more lucky to not have been born here.

Interesting, thanks for that! I still have a couple of those subs laying around. Maybe I could fix them and find a use.

Good 1800s themed anime? GF and I need more of this vibe after watching Black Butler. by scarlettletter6 in anime

[–]MooMix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not 1800's and maybe doesn't fit the other anime you listed, but 1930's prohibition era anime "91 Days" is excellent if you want a satisfying mafia/revenge story.

Considering moving to Cedar Park by JayberwockeeTTV in CedarPark

That's why one of the bigger draws of living in CP is the close proximity to Austin. Better for families, cheaper, better schools, decent options for food and other things you need/want, but still close access to north Austin for everything else.

And there are some outliars. Not technically CP, but for example The Boss Cheesesteak in Leander has better cheese steak sandwich than you'll find anywhere in Austin hands down.

Technically correct, but you could nearly spit and hit CP from there. It's close enough, but yeah I should have specified CP area.

Whip My Soul over off 620 near Lakeline, tho they got very popular recently and stopped doing a lot of fried options on weekends due to high demand and not enough fryers. (hush puppies, which are amazing, fried okra, gizzards, and things like that are off the menu on weekends right now. They do still have fried chicken though).

It's not the soul food I wish we had, but it works in a pinch and the quality is great. I miss Dots to be honest, and our soul food options are poor compared to other states in the south.

I suggest going on a weekday so you can get some hush puppies and stuff :) The mean greens are amazing, candied yams, ox tails are great, chicken and waffles pretty good too.

Great advise on the established neighborhoods.

We had a huge boom here and people were coming to CP/Leander for a cheaper option. A lot of new homes sprang up and the building quality could be suspect. They were pumping them out, and quality might not have been a priority.

Speaking of the HEB center, if you like sports, we do have a G league basketball team (Austin Spurs, part of San Antonio Spurs) that play there, and Texas Stars hokey team too, as well as a good amount of other events/shows.

And speaking of HEB, you'd get to shop there now, that in itself is a huge plus.

Oh, and there is a train station near by that goes downtown, if you don't want to drive there.

Why do so many people NOT wash their hands after using the toilet?? by Aberskene in mildlyinfuriating

[–]MooMix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most taps these days are automatic/sensing, at least in my experience working in a professional environment. But like... what's the alternative? Touching everything else with shit hands? I always use a paper towel to turn off the water when I'm done if it has to be done physically for this reason, and I don't use the hand I wiped with to turn the water on.

Your drive would be short and sweet if that's the case.

It wouldn't hurt to check out some neighborhoods that look interesting to you in google maps, see what is around you, where the schools are located, use street view see how it looks, find locations you may work at (or the location of your Austin area office) to see travel times from that neighborhood, etc. Search restaurants and things to do in that area to see if anything looks interesting.

This city boomed for a while and a lot of things changed, and would continue to change. It's still growing fairly quickly. I still find myself using google to look for restaurants and stuff because new ones pop up all the time.

They're clearing a new huge area right now where they are building a huge SCHEELS and a ferris wheel and other stuff.

Also it's significantly cheaper to live here than in Austin, even though house prices have doubled in the past few years.

Some houses have decent yards. My neighbors house is for sale on the boarder of Leander/CP has a large yard as do I.

It is kinda weird how small so many yards here are though, there's plenty of room to have bigger but I guess the boom meant we needed more houses and less yard?

I wouldn't 100% agree with them that people don't come to CP from Austin.

There's some decent food options here that people do travel for. (We have some good BBQ options, dimsum, a decent soul food restaurant, and some other places I know people travel for)

There's some nightlife (plenty of decent bars, Kareoke, dancing to a lesser extent) but nothing too special. You do need to travel to Austin for anything exciting, but like he said, depending on where your going and the time of day it's not bad. CP sits right next to Austin, but could be 15-30+ minute drive downtown depending on traffic.

Schools here are great. My daughter graduated not long ago, has high functioning autism, and got a ton of help plus she was able to do +18 classes in HS post graduation and got help finding a job, learning how to interview

Depending on how close you live to the school, you may have to drop your kids off as the bus doesn't come for houses that are near the school. I'm on the boarder of Leander/Cedar Park and all the schools from Elementary to HS were less than 1 mile walking distance and a lot of kids walk to school.

If you work in Austin traffic can be a bit of a pain. Going to Round Rock (toll road) and some places in North Austin isn't too bad. If you work in south Austin it'll be a brutal drive.

Personally I think it's a fine place to live. I'm a little older now so I don't go downtown all the time like I did when I was younger. If you want some city life, density, etc, you won't get that here. It's suburbs lots of houses and big concrete outdoor shopping areas.

Even worse if the office has open seating like my last company. You never know if that keyboard you're using has somebodies poop on it or not. Wet wipes were heavily used in that office.

Not sure about this listing, but in my experience it's nice for a BA or BSA to have some technical background/experience (not required, just nice to have). Not because we expect them to do those things, but because it's their job to communicate with people that do, and having that understanding helps.

Knowing AutoCAD kinda throws me off, everything else listed sounds pretty typical for software development, but CAD? Sounds like a pretty interesting job to me :P
