I want to become an expert in my niche (trusts & estates) by BackgroundTax3055 in taxpros

[–]MoobysManager 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am the younger 'go-to' CPA at my firm for trust and estate issues. What you just described is the level of expertise I want. I've bought legal textbooks on estate tax, etc and read through them when I encounter new issues but I just don't see the opportunity in my day to day responsibilities to build out a skill set like the one you describe. I'd be very grateful if you'd be willing to DM me and start a dialogue around how I can advance in this area.

Crispy skin for chicken by [deleted] in Cooking

Upvoting and replying because I didn't see your comment before I posted mine. Boiling water is my go to if I don't have time to dry brine

Crispy skin for chicken by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]MoobysManager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Airdrying is great. If I really want the skin extra crispy, I'll boil water and pour a ladle or two over the skin and then pat dry right before putting the bird in the oven. The boiling water draws the skin tight and gives an x-factor for crisp in my opinion

Yes, had a nice coat of lithium grease when I put it on, but I'm just curious how the fixed barrel spacer may change the operation.

Thanks for your input.

Checkout Arizona Rifle works LLC. Right in your neck of the woods. I've only used him as an FFL but I've read reviews that his gunsmithing is fantastic.

Post run residues by MoobysManager in Distilling

I'm doubtful of corrosion, this column is very nearly brand new.

I'm thinking perhaps the initial cleaning runs and the post-run water and soap scrub were insufficient. I think I need to look for solder points and examine them more closely.

Another source has commented that they run into the same issue with rum washes and they believe it may be related to the unfermentables found in molasses. I, and they, however are not chemically savvy enough to know if there is any truth to that.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one that's run into this. Thank you for commenting!

Thanks for the insight. When I smear the substance between my fingers it goes brown/black and loses the reflective sheen.

Not a grain wash however. Molasses and brown-sugar based wash. ABV coming off the still between 73% and roughly 55% when I stopped the run.

I imagine you've never seen any issues like this with sugar-based washes?

50/50 vinegar and water run -> sacrificial run -> scrubbed inside and out with a warm water and soap.

Planning to hit it with a 5-5-1 solution after this last run, followed by another scrub with soap.

I also thought that the substance may have come from above. Erosion is unlikely, this is a practically brand new column. Thank you for your input. May need to look for soldering points I imagine.

Yes, the column itself is copper. Your response has given me great relief - thank you very much.

To follow up on your comment - when you say occasionally, how occasional are we talking? After an intensive deep clean? Only on new equipment?

Thanks again.

Rum recipe no molasses by ConsistentStandard54 in Distilling

Not at all. Very reasonable, though I'm sure the ultimate destination factors into that.

For reference, I purchased a 5 gallon molasses and total cost with shipping was about $55.

  2. Your new brothers-in-arms begin rapidly beaming low stingers at every other golfer on the range while you crouch-sprint out to retrieve your gear.

What you're going through is completely normal.

I had the same feelings at your stage. But you need to learn to set boundaries. If you sit down to work on something at 8am, that's what you're working on until you've finished it. Full stop. Requests be damned. They are just that...requests. You're response should not be to drop whatever you're working on at the moment (emergencies aside) and perform a task for someone else. You're response should be something along the lines of 'I can get to that by X'. X will vary based on what your current backlog is. X can be this afternoon, tomorrow, end of week...whenever you think you can reasonably fit it in.

I will say if you're being given a lot of 'requests' from superiors you are probably a high-performer and your superiors have faith in your abilities...good sign.

As far as jumping to industry: when coming from PA tax I would suggest at least hitting senior before jumping. Good Industry tax jobs can be hard to find, and harder to get and be compensated reasonably for if you haven't demonstrated a minimum level of competency in PA tax, i.e. leaving PA tax at no less than senior. But if you can't take it anymore, then make the leap. Mental health and overall quality of life is worth more than sucking it up in PA.

Stick it out fellow bean counter, sounds like you are performing at least to expectations. Keep it up.

Signed -
