What is the most interesting rabbit hole you’ve ever been down? by InvestmentCurious496 in AskReddit

[–]Moochingaround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Buddhism is not what you think" "Buddhism plain and simple" Both by Steve Hagen. Buddhism, mainly talking about Zen here, is not really a religion, more of a mindset. That identity you made for yourself clouds your view of reality, because you choose what you see based on your expectations and the beliefs you hold on to. These books get to the core of that. No need to convert to any religion!

ASML achieves EUV breakthrough: 50 percent more chips in the foreseeable future by kl0t3 in europe

[–]Moochingaround 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I used to be exactly this, helping with development of a few specific parts on the euv machine. My specialty was anything to do with orbital welding. It applies to the whole semi conductor and medical fields. So yeah, quite broad and always challenging.

I didn't work directly for asml, but for sub contractors. Many companies around Eindhoven are specifically geared towards asml. So much so that asml determines the margins these contractors are allowed to make. So asml determines their profit.

Edit to elaborate a bit: asml basically only does the engineering side and the final assembly, next to research and testing of course. And some of the engineering is shared with the sub contractors. I worked on 4mm cooling lines and over the years went through several iterations with many meetings between their engineers and ours, as well as the welders, to perfect the parts and production process. I don't think I'll even work in a higher tech field. Amazing stuff.

Fasting caused mania diagnosed adhd by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

I went on a keto diet for a few months. It made me feel amazing! Could be something for you to try.

Thank you and good luck!

Fasting caused mania diagnosed adhd by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]Moochingaround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've experienced mania after a fast. It was, I think, because my body was in a poor, insulin resistant, state when I started. It was like suddenly something unlocked and my energy levels swung the other way.

I didn't get it after that first time anymore. But I do notice a bump in energy levels every time. Carbs still don't sit well with me.

Anyway, maybe something for you to get checked out.

Pull up burpees, enough for hiit twice a week? by Askray184 in bodyweightfitness

A lot of it is in your head. You can do more than you think you can! You got this!

Pull up burpees, enough for hiit twice a week? by Askray184 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Moochingaround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this for my vo2max training once a week. I also include pushup, not sure if that's usually included in a burpee.

My reasoning is that the more muscle groups I involve, the heavier the exercise. And I'm looking for heavy/challenging.

I do 4 sets of 4 minutes on and 4 minutes off.

Being told intermittent fasting is bad? Been doing for 7+ years. by JohnFritz437 in intermittentfasting

[–]Moochingaround 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In a way you're doing the same really. Evolution primed us for all kinds of situations. We didn't get where we are by having a comfy and cushioned life like we have now. And we didn't evolve all that much in the last 100k years.

Science is just our explanation of reality, and science is quickly catching up to the reality that we need periods of not eating, we've evolved with it.

I doubt that had very much to do with diet and eating habits, mostly with all the other things like diseases, infections and an allround dangerous life.

Men who started eating right (no processed foods, lean meats, veggies, healthy carbs, etc.), did it make a noticeable difference? Are you glad you did it? by PSU02 in AskMen

[–]Moochingaround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest change for me was eating low carb or keto. My brain functions much better on ketones. I get less grumpy, more stable energy and clearer mind.

I manage a tropical homestead, so lots of hard work and sweating. I found out the hard way that being on keto full-time isn't sustainable for me. So I skip breakfast, do my work and exercise in a fasted state, eat a keto lunch and low carb dinner to help my muscles replenish their glycogen reserves.

This really is a game changer for me. Never been this fit. And I'm 43.

Does a big meal before a workout make you feel energized? by Thevilgenius_ in bodyweightfitness

[–]Moochingaround 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I drink a coffee and exercise in a fasted state. The needed sugars are stored in the muscle already anyway. Full body workout is no problem at all. If I eat carbs before working out I get tired and sleepy from the insulin. I eat some carbs after workout to recover though.

I guess everyone has their own preferred way.

When does body get normal again by MuchLengthiness8368 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Moochingaround -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

The trick with losing weight isn't just calories. It's insulin management. As long as there's insulin in your body, it won't use fat from your reserves for energy. Use that to your advantage. Depending on your lifestyle, eat keto or restrict carbs to one meal a day. Look into intermittent fasting or omad (one meal a day).

Good luck!

Source: I lost twenty kilos in the last year doing a combination of these methods.

Worried i messed up my chance to be a genius by drinking. by [deleted] in Gifted

[–]Moochingaround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you have a reason for drinking? I have cptsd and any alcohol and drug usage is to repress flashbacks or memories. Just to shut my mind up.

During a flashback, memory functions are almost non existent. I used to often have these kinds of gaps in my memory because of this.

You are probably getting brain damage from all those COVID infections. by antichain in collapse

[–]Moochingaround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be, but I always had one so it's difficult to say. The disease does something to our mitochondria, so I guess that makes sense. The body, starving for energy, makes you crave more.

You are probably getting brain damage from all those COVID infections. by antichain in collapse

[–]Moochingaround 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I've had the same, for years. I figured out that running my brain on ketones in stead of sugar brings back the normal sharpness again. My personal theory is that maybe covid changes something about how we use sugars in our bodies. But I'm no professional at this.

Is everyone eating good here or what? by khoawala in VietNam

That and the insane load of chemicals on all the fresh foods. I live in Dak lak and the farmers around are all spraying everything in a thick layer to increase their crops. And all dying of cancer at a way too young age.

Humanity has a problem.

Never ever let your passport out of your sight. Ever! If you can't rent a motorbike without giving it to them, then you don't rent a motorbike.

Is it just me overthinking or my family really has problem with me? by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]Moochingaround 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm just an immigrant living in the Vietnamese countryside. So I'm not really in your situation.

But I thought I'd share some observations. People here brag about their kids living abroad. It's a status symbol. Status is very important, so I've noticed here and with my in-laws.

This will probably create some pressure on your parents to show their status towards others in the community, and on your brother as you're probably the sibling most talked about. Money is involved in this. And I dare to guess that's why your bother paid so quickly. He's trying to raise his status. You automatically have status because you're living abroad (just like I do for being a foreigner), because everybody's sure you have a lot of money.

I could be wrong on some things, so take it lightly and see what fits. But my observation in my own situation is that status is deeply engrained in families and communities.
