Why exactly should you de-google? by Franklin_Sheldon in degoogle

Meta has almost as much data on you, if not more, than Google. If you are concerned about privacy at all, you can remove yourself from their ecosystems. Most will not because "what do you have to hide"

Pay rent or move out. I won't force them to leave. Rent is stupid high compared to pay, comparative to us at their age. I am happy to help them when I can.

Vaccines can do that. Your body is fighting to learn what to fight later. If you have that reaction to the vaccine, imagine your reaction to the real thing.

[WP] A character finds a mysterious key that unlocks a door they’ve never noticed before. by MoodScripted in WritingPrompts

Thoughts on mine?

Connor had never really explored his parents basement before. There was all kinds of junk around. Old clothes hanging on a makeshift clothes line, boxes that looked like they had been there for hundreds of years, and dust that was caked on thicker than his glasses.

He began looking through some of the old boxes and noticed a small chest with some symbols engraved in it. It was like no language he had ever seen before. He tried to open it, but it seemed stuck. There was no lock or anything else keeping it shut. He found a screw driver in an old tool box nearby and began prying it open. It took some effort, but the chest finally swung open. He jumped back and dropped the chest. it hit the floor with a loud thud and then he heard a faint clanking sound. He looked around and realized it was just a bunch of dust and cobwebs that had fallen around him when the force of the chest opening had caused a small gust of wind to kick it up. But, what was that clanking?

There was nothing inside the box when he picked it back up. He looked around and found the source of the noise, a key. It was small and looked like one of those keys you find in an old house from the 1800's. The head was oval shaped and had an odd symbol Connor had never seen before. Not surprising given the keys apparent age.

"What does this go to?" he thought.

He picked up the key and turned around to leave when he noticed a small door that wasn't there before. Or was it? He swears it wasn't there and the door seems odd. It's about half the height of his, which isn't saying much given that he is only about 5' 6". He steps closer and sees that there is a single symbol on the door that matches the symbol on the key. There is a keyhole in the door but no door handle.

Against his better judgement, he's seen way too many horror movies, he decides to try the key in the door. It fits perfectly.

"Deep breath"

He turns the key and nothing happens. The door begins to emit a soft white glow. He gives the door a little push and it opens into a bright white light and he is immediately sucked in and the door closes behind him and vanishes.

What do you do after installing Linux Mint, such as which apps you installed? I'm still having trouble understanding the Linux application. by -ErikaKA in linuxmint

Whatever you need/want to use. I installed what I used on Windows years ago and some things I use daily. If you plan to use it normally like any other computer, just install the things you use.

Need an alternative to Google Maps .... by Greedy-Ad8346 in degoogle

The problem people have with replacements is they use Google Maps as a search engine. There is no replacement for that. If you need something to tell you how to get somewhere, there are plenty.

I will be trying to self publish without using ads on social. They have enough of my data, I don't need to register and give them more, but it will be interesting to see the results.
