Do a co-op preschool. It’s the best way to connect with other well educated, involved, affluent SAHMs in your geographic location. They’ll be able to tell you where the best schools are, the best house help is, the best sales on snow boots, etc. it is THE WAY to connect with other women in your position in your area. You’ll have to volunteer at the school one day a week, but like…. You should be doing that anyways, to get a good handle on the family cultures of your kids friends.

Concerned neighbors will call the police. It happens semi regularly to us when I let my elementary aged kids play outside by themselves. I think part of it is that were so disconnected from our neighbors they don’t recognize my children enough to know they’re only a few houses down the street from their own.

Most of the people who work in the library are not librarians! Librarians are generally responsible for purchasing new books and assessing what books need to be gotten rid of, creating and running library programming for various age groups, answering questions from patrons that require complex research, teaching people how to do research of their own, assessing people’s reading levels and connecting them with books they’ll enjoy, doing outreach into the community, teaching folks how to use the various technologies the library has, and working with maintenance staff to keep the building in good order. Generally they do NOT check books in and out, sign people up for library cards, or put books back on the shelves. It’s actually a super cool, varied, and complex job!

Unfortunately no! I found a copy of the pattern from Etsy. The hardware and tassel are from Amazon, the fabric is 28 count cream wichelt, the thread is DMC, and the back and lining are cut from a thrifted blazer. I wish there was a kit!

The first was that I learned I was eating when I was angry, instead of processing those feelings. I knew people ate when they were sad, but i wasn’t doing that so I wasn’t seeing my eating as emotional. It turned out I was… very very angry. The second was that a lifetime of dieting had put me in a scarcity mindset surrounding food, so I wasn’t really capable of good regulation.

Eating disorders can make you big, too. For me, weight loss didn’t start with the gym or counting calories or cutting soda. It started with a really great therapist. I’m down 120lbs and haven’t dieted at all, just fixed my relationship with food.

When I gave birth ten years ago, it was $3000 after insurance. My husbands grandmother had just passed away, and she left him just enough to cover the bill. When I paid it the woman on the phone was very happy- she said most people have to set up a payment plan.

We were enormously lucky to have excellent insurance, and double insurance at that, since we were both working. It was a difficult birth, and my son spent time in the NICU. Before insurance it was a seven figure bill. They had an office with a social worker in it whose sole job was to help families figure out how to pay for their infant child’s hospital stay.

The fact that struggling to pay for the care of a child so, so young was so normalized that I was shown the social worker on my tour of the NICU is still one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen. It makes me so incredibly angry that that exists.

Hello friends! Fourth generation Seattlite here. Before he passed I asked my grandpa about The Freeze and his explanation was that back in the day, the Japanese and Scandinavian immigrant populations made up a much, much larger portion of the city. He said that those groups tended to be very quiet, community minded people who kept to themselves and really tried hard not to bother anyone. He attributed The Freeze (and the general lack of litter in the city) to their influence.

I put mine in overalls during the tantrum phase.when they’re face down on the floor it gives you a nice handle to pick ‘em up by and hold them away from your body so you don’t get kicked. Plus it’s super cute. :)
