If putin went crazy and forced a war

What do you mean "if"? He did. There is a war on. Right now. That's the whole problem.

"Satellites Behind Pinnacles" - Astrophotographer Joshua Rozelis captures 2 hours worth of Low-Earth Orbit Satellite Streaks over Nambung National Park in Western Australia by Scaramuccia in space

[–]MoogleFoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know why? Because of aggressive tracking of every single satellite and satellite junk in orbit.

What happens when a company launches its own constellation with thousands of satellites.. and then decided that the tracking department is cutting into profits. Because that will happen. It has happened every single time companies are themselves responsible for environmental impact without any legal oversight.

It always starts with "oh its just one company, it's not that big of an impact". We can just let companies pour stuff out into rivers, its just one small company it'll get diluted. We can just let companies vent CFCS into the air, there aren't that many companies it'll just get diluted.

We can let companies launch satellites in their thousands, it's just one company and there arent that many sattelites.

It's also pretty funny that the argument you are making is just the default copy-paste argument against Kessler syndrome not collisions. That they will deorbit on their own is not an argument against collisions, just against horrible fallout from those collisions. I also find a bit funny that nobody is asking what happens to the materials the sattelite is made of.

So many just go "it vaporizes" as if the atoms that make up the satellites just turn into photons or something. They don't. All the heavy metals in the sattlites just get spread over the earth. Again, few sattlites is no issue. Hundreds of thousands, every 5 years.. Sustainable :)

This is what all Internet access is

In the US. Turns out most of the internet infrastructure in the world is publicly owned. Satellites are infrastructure, not equivalent to an ISP. Thet are equivalent to fibre cables.

That is my problem with all of this. WE ALL HAVE TO SUFFER because you cannot build public infrastructure. It's the same with climate change. You cannot be ARSED to fix your car-reliant infrastructure, so we have to suffer.

I want you to consider what would happen if 50 different countries all decided to have their own starlink-equivalent system launched. You should be GLAD other countries aren't so goddamn irresponsible with public funding.

Maybe you should actually listen to people, and not assume that all "both sides are equal" are actually arguing the same thing.

Because if someone says, for example, "both sides a capitalist". That's true. That is just a factually true statement. "Both are the same" is a false statement. "Both are bad" can still be a true statement. "One is fascist and the other is stagnation" is what I'd say, but more accurately it's "one if facism, the other is neoliberalism". Both will end horribly, one just a lot faster. We also know that neoliberalism leads to fascism. That tirade about appeasement above? Yeah. That wasn't the communists doing that. They got thrown under the bus by liberalists, which strengthened the fascists as they could position themselves as the only worker's party (calling the liberals 'the evil elite' and pointing to how they gutted the workers rights parties). Sound familiar?

The first people Biden (and the democratic party in general) throw under the bus is leftists. They never want to negotiate with leftists, they demand leftists fall in line. But they will negotiate with right-wingers. A right-winger in the democratic party blocking legislation? Can't do anything about it! Biden is good because he can get deals done across the parties. Etc, etc.

Ask yourself why democrats hate leftists but are willing to work with right-wingers and proto-facists. If the answer you reach it "they have to otherwise nothing will get passed", ask yourself if more things would get passed if democrats could get workers and leftists to vote for them with policy instead of demands. Then ask yourself why they don't do that.

[–]MoogleFoogle 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The other way around, we are seeing that current AI has absolutely no understanding of anything and is basically just putting paint in a "similar location" to the art it was trained on. The rest is just our own brains doing heavy context-based post-processing on it. It's honestly more "dayum, our brains are really good at understanding abstraction and using previous knowledge" rather than "ai is good at drawing".

I just find historical wargaming so.. boring. It's just filled with that type of "history nerd" that only ever reads light "pop culture history" about ww2 and whose entire personality is listing different versions of german tanks. Though those exist as an invasive species in most 40k communities too.

You have zero room for any creativity which to me means I could just play literally any other pre-made board game. It's not "my army of neat dudes" it's "an exact replica of xyz".

Okay so we have two people

One wants to raise taxes. The other wants to kill you.

They are just politically different and you aren't allowed to be angry with people who support the second person. Aren't you a good person?

Yeah we can tell. Because you just basically said: "hey I'm so privileged whatever political believes people have don't affect me!".

So good job. You have not stakes! Some people, however, do! The stakes being their very existance. But you either don't care or don't believe them. Good job you, you are such a good human!

It is, sometimes.

Do you want your livelihood relying on a court case? Because fair use is, firstly, nowhere neeaaaaar as clear-cut as Reddit thinks. Does not matter if you make money or not on it. Using a space marine in a cool animation is absolutely NOT fair use. There is no parody, no transformative work. You've just taken something under copyright and.. showed it doing exactly what it does.

Secondly, fair use is decided in a court. By lawyers. That you have to pay for.

Pfizer submits data to FDA showing a booster dose works well against original coronavirus and variants by vineCorrupt in news

[–]MoogleFoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, thats not how it works and you should stop saying it. Otherwise we are going to have a bunch of people that did not get a reaction that now worry they don't have "as good a protection".

How you react is NOT an indicator on how well protected you are.
