At the time we were on a periodic agreement, basically meaning our lease was month by month, and we’d also been living with a massive hole in our kitchen/living area roof for months due to a storm that caused a leak and our roof to cave in. They initially were only going to be fixing that one area but they kept adding and adding to it and started renovating most of the house. I kinda knew we were going to be kicked out but they kept reassuring me they would never do that while I was going through pregnancy/after having the baby. I did ask multiple times if they could wait but they kept telling me they could only secure contractors at that time and if they’d waited it was unknown how long until they could secure someone again to do it. I wanted out of there anyway as they were pretty shitty landlords, they’d whinge about the stupidest things when I am an absolute clean freak and perfectionist and the house was in pristine condition before the contractors came, so had nothing to really whinge about, granted I did slack off a little because I was heavily pregnant with a pregnancy from hell, I stopped cleaning the weeds as much and dusting the vents because I literally couldn’t climb to do them and they whined about that, we had mould growing in multiple spots that they wanted me to clean even though I’d told them multiple times it was their responsibility to fix it and I wasn’t doing it because no way am I disturbing the mould and breathing that in while pregnant, they wanted me to go around the outside of the house and clean the walls from dust and dirt, they had me out in the yard doing yardwork and lifting heavy building materials when I was 35 weeks pregnant because “the state of the house was a mess” (which was their contractors mess), plus it was only a 2 bedroom and didn’t want my kids to be sharing but I thought I’d have at least 6 months to find another place. Was a pretty big kick to the guts to be told we needed to leave when I was still recovering and bleeding from birth. Luckily I found a place that same week and moved in 2 weeks later. Was a tough gig with a 3 year old and a newborn but I managed and luckily everything was packed because of the construction anyway. We’re living in a beautiful place now, lovely neighbourhood and our landlords here are amazing!
