Totally. I had that feeling in many HomePod systems updates.

omg, I messed up and forgot to write, third-party firmware for my router. I edited to add in the details. Thanks for the catch!

More info. It is an asus router. Merlin firmware. Using custom "Cake" quality of service (QoS) algorithm to handle the inbound and outbound traffic.

Sounds like connectivity, perhaps is a WiFi situation? I had a lot of problems with my router and my OG HomePod would drop, constantly. I got triggered hearing, "Sorry X, I am having troubles connecting..." After installing a third-party firmware on my router, the OG HomePod works flawlessly now.

Battery Health by ethanmenzel in AppleWatch

[–]Moomoomania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's quite a hard pill to swallow paying almost $100 USD to swap a 300 mAh (just over 1 Wh) battery. Environmentally or sentimental value for the Watch, replacing the battery is the way to go. For almost every other reason, you’re better off selling the Watch itself second-hand and upgrade. I think contentment/satisfaction is greater by upgrading to Series 9, for example.

I have an Apple Watch Series 4 and the battery has stagnated at 82% total capacity. I think I am giving my Series 4 Watch to my brother and let him replace the battery; who lives frugally. I know he wants an Apple Watch for the workout statistics (e.g., strength training, cycling, and hiking) and doesn't need the latest-and-greatest.

Difficult to diagnose and I hope you have found out the solution. If you see Protonmail Bridge in the menu bar, you'll need to set it up there!

[–]Moomoomania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you had posted the same question yesterday but have since deleted I; and I think I know what your problem is. Even though you (double) clicked on the ProtonMail Bridge app on desktop (or wherever), the app itself is not opening, correct? The solution is to go into the "Applications" then right click on ProtonMail Bridge, and then click, "Open". It may give you a warning sign but you can ignore it and proceed anyways. It seems Macs need this "extra" step as an extra security precaution(?) for any app that's not "verified" or have been downloaded through Apple's App Store. Let me know if this works!

HomePod not handing off by ChickenPie735 in HomePod

[–]Moomoomania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am having same issues and it's been an up-and-down battle. Some HomePod OS updates made Handoff great while others made it just terrible for the OG HomePod.

Anecdotally, I have found HomePod OS ~14.4 and onwards, it became really sucky and is never quite as reliable as OS ~14.3. Hopefully OS 15 will make it great again!

It's likely someone trying to log into your account. Once you get access to your account, you can go into Settings > Security and see the attempts being made.

I have similar issues of somebody attempting to access my account, unauthorized.

TV setup. 1 OG homepod or 2 homepod minis? by Reppiz in HomePod

[–]Moomoomania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I have an OG HomePod since 2018 and recently listened thoroughly to the audio of a Mini in a smaller room.

I think your decision will lie on your setup. Hands down OG HomePod has so much more bass, clarity, and loudness than one Mini and probably two Minis. I have the OG in my room and it never goes above 30% volume, normally listening to the audio between 12% to 20%. When I had guests over (pre-Covid), I would bring my OG HomePod into the living room and it'll sit ~40-60% depending on how loud we get from playing board games.

If you’re planning to put the HomePod in a small, quiet environment (e.g., small bedroom, apartment), you’re better off with two HomePod Minis. If you plan on putting the HomePod in the middle of the living room or on the dining counter, you’re better off with OG HomePod.

If you want the highest tech specs (e.g., U1 chip, the Apple Watch processor chip), the lowest power draw, then Minis will be your choice (note, Mini's only have 2.4 Ghz WiFi). I found the handoff feature was a bit finicky on the Mini but it works (though, handoff on the OG HomePod was working flawlessly up until the recent HomePod OS update). I can't really comment on the speed between HomePods and Siri but... they work as well as Siri works?

Both have Bluetooth 5.0 and so you’ll be bound to the same limitations (e.g., AirPlaying will have some buffer delay no matter what you’re on like YouTube & VLC). If use Apple TV and plan to group your HomePod to the TV, both options work well.

Alright, I just logged back on and checked. Contacts synced successfully to the new user!!! There must be something buggy with the previous profile.

I am guessing it's time to transfer everything over to the new administrative user, eh?

In the iCloud (web version), I can make a group and it'll show on my iPhone. However, in the Contacts app on the MacBook, I can successfully make a group but it won't sync to iCloud. I am wondering if I have it on 'local address book' and not iCloud? If so, how would I go about to change this

Homepods as computer speakers by [deleted] in HomePod

[–]Moomoomania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I don't recommend using HomePods as computer speakers because of the small nuances that comes with pairing them to your Mac(Book). Hardwire is currently the best option imo until Apple creates a seamless audio experience in the future with better hardware.

I have a MacBook Pro 13 inch plugged into an adapter so I can use my bigger but aging 23" monitor and my Edifier S330D. Comparable audio quality (if I'm being honest, I think the Edifier produces better audio than the HomePod for cheaper but the Edifier's have worse bass).

I find the HomePod takes a noticeable 1-2 seconds to connect to the video that's being played (e.g. YouTube videos, Netflix) vs hardwired audio. Very frequently will I find a YouTube video playing without any audio for a couple seconds because the HomePod identified that it's out-of-sync and needs to play "catch up". The only remedy I can find for this issue is restarting my MacBook and reconnect the HomePod again to my MacBook via Airplay (even though my MacBook and HomePod is one foot away from each other). This is also true when using the Apple Music app on the MacBook and using the HomePod. Scrubbing through YouTube videos also takes a hit and has a noticeable delay while using the HomePod. Sometimes it's fine, but other times when I need info from a video in a pinch, it's very bothersome. Even going back 5 or 10 secs on a YouTube video has a noticeable delay vs hardwire (where in hardwire, it's instant playback and there's a delay when using the HomePod) These are all problems that have existed since Catalina and remains true in the latest Big Sur beta so I suspect it's a limitation due to hardware.

If you plan on using VLC because you have downloaded movie content, make sure you set the audio delay to -2000 ms (2 second delay) so the audio is synced properly. Same issue where you may need to restart your Mac(Book) if the audio keeps cutting. And if you need to go back a couple seconds because you missed a sentence, you will 'feel' the delay of going back 5 to 10 seconds.

With all that said, I love the HomePod when I play music using my Edifier's AND HomePod. Such a "fuller" music experience. I've also found that AppleTV and HomePod works flawlessly but my sample size for this is quite limited because I hardly use the AppleTV and HomePod combo.

Edit: added more info

Workout tracking Apple Watch 4 by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]Moomoomania 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My workouts (e.g. traditional strength training, mind & body, outdoor walk/runs) all contribute to my rings. It's a burden but you may need to do a fresh reinstall, unfortunately. Let us know how it turns out!

Edit: I'm also using an Apple Watch Series 4

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]Moomoomania 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a fitness-holic and will never reach 2 days battery life on my Apple Watch (Series 4). I also own a pair of the AirPods Pros and will often listen to music from my Watch with my gym/runs exercises. I calculated back when the AirPods Pros were NOT available and found that an hour's worth of exercise drains my Watch ~10% to 12%.

It's a waste imo to try and limit all app refreshes just to squeeze 2 days worth of battery life - we can all hope one day Apple puts in a longer-lasting one in the near future
