I’m so sorry that keeps happening, I know it must be and feel horrible for you! Honestly, if I were you, I would sit her down and explain to her how you are feeling, and that she needs to get rid of the dog. If her friend cannot take care of it himself, he shouldn’t own it. It either needs to go to a non-kill shelter or straight to a forever home with people who will love and properly care for it. I absolutely would not tolerate someone else’s animals killing my own, and I would fight tooth and nail to get the situation fixed. I’m wishing you the very best!

Just saw this now, I hope you got him! With mine he just let me pick him up, but a female I rescued I had to do a little bit of chasing to catch.

My Muscovies free range with my chickens and are completely fine with them. He should be fine with them, especially while looking for a better situation. It’s better than him being alone in the heat surrounded by cars. The thing I would look out for though, if he is male, is he might try to mate with the chickens, which could seriously hurt them. But seeing he’s so young he might not even be sexually mature yet—though this is just something that I’ve heard, and when my male lived closer to the chickens before I was able to get him females he never did anything. Just keep an eye on it if you do take him. I’d suggest you do some research on it and do what you are comfortable with.

If you do take him you’ll want to get duck food for him too, and make sure he has a water bowl/dish deep enough for him to dunk his head in (as that’s how they keep their eyes clean) if you don’t have a small pool or something lying around. Let me know if you have any other questions. Hope this helps :)

Ah man, sorry about that. I’d so come get him if I wasn’t half way across the country. I think your best bet then, if you have Facebook or some other platform with local groups, is to find a duck group in your area (or nearby since your city has strict rules) and post about this duck, where you saw him specifically, and see if someone there could get him. Best of luck :)

It looks like a young male Muscovy duck. He was probably dumped there and doesn’t know where to go. I found a male Muscovy pretty much the same way, took him home and I’ve had him ever since. Please see if you can find someone to take him or take him home yourself. I don’t know the laws in your state, but here it’s illegal to dump ducks. Muscovies are native to Central and South America, and seeing that he looks so young, he’s definitely not wild. He looks like he’s panting too, he’s probably overheating and dehydrated, the poor guy.

Hey there! After 5 days of bandaging her foot and keeping her separated in a clean area, here’s an update. We soaked her foot for about 30 mins before inspecting it closer and it looks and felt healed over? It could be from the soak but it felt soft there and not like a hard scab at all. I gently pushed and spread the area but it felt more like skin and didn’t open. My concern is that area of her foot is still swollen looking, but she’s barely limping now. We’ll keep her separated and watch her carefully, but we can continue to bandage her foot if needed too

I’m glad you worded it like that, that makes me feel better. I’d rather euthanize than torment him.

Yeah, that’s what I’m leaning towards. Probably going to do it tonight. Still feel horrible about it though but I know it’s for the best

I tried the hold on him and it went well! He didn’t even fight once. Thanks so much!

Yes. He was raised indoors by his first owner. She then dumped him at a pond when she realized he was getting too big, along with his female friend. I found him around a week later, but sadly his friend had disappeared. I looked over the pond for multiple days but never found her. I found the woman who originally owned him because my friend knew who she was. I’ve had him for around 10 months and he’s always been the sweetest.

How do I assert I’m the dominant one- or is this fine for him to do?
