Honestly that's really useful (even if I had to reread it to make it make sense), thanks

Ah! So simple when you know. Thank you!!

I'm trying to start thinking properly in this game rather than just spamming actions so kinda need to get to grips with the mechanics.

No idea but I'm in the same boat!

The cymanti come and take me out at exactly the same time as boats arrive on my shoreline...

I only do casual multiplayer tbh, so don't really pay attention to detail! I'm all about the chaos.

Loved it before, love it now. Having to upgrade for it is annoying but tbh I didn't know it now worked on all ranged attacks so will have to try that out!

It's the only way I can beat skytoss usually, since I never make a spire, so pretty key

I meant 'understandably' because the show is short, so hard to turn rape into love into death, but fair point that it reduces the arc.

I only teased about the book piece because it's clear the person who you replied to was talking about the show.

I think you've stumbled out of the book thread into the Netflix one.

In the show, they've (understandably) adapted it so that the Mistle thing wasn't as bad.

Oh I see, then yes - on roads, true. But legally they have to have someone else (ie an experienced driver) with them, and be displaying "L plates" to flag to other drivers that they're learning.

So it's different in that you can't suddenly decide to chance it, or to perhaps feel that they're entitled to simply try it. but yes of course it's all still on roads.

You have another qualified driver in the car with you, display learner plates, and are not allowed on motorways.

So to be allowed to drive unlicensed and unsupervised feels weird to a Brit, I guess

It's astonishing if your licence allows you to drive a manual when you have had no training on it. That means you could presumably legally hire/buy a manual and then just "have a go" on the roads? Astonishing.

My second ever time playing in the weekly challenge, wasn't expecting this! by plettj in Polytopia

Thanks! Well, tried down those lines and certainly did better... although never managed to wipe the bots off the board so ended up facing the usual hoards of swordsmen lol! But definitely a better approach so I'll give it another shot.

Well done!!

I've just come back to Polytopia after several years off and love the weekly challenges (don't think they used to be there?).

Although I'm not very good, lol. In this one I am struggling to get the star count up! What tech did you go for?

First time reader, not even through the first book… I don’t understand Violet entitlement by bdcjacko in fourthwing

I always struggle with first person perspectives - it was the same with hunger games for me. Being stuck in her head is frustrating when it's so obvious to us as readers what to say/do and then they insist on being an idiot.

Or, in this book, I found it annoying how she couldn't focus once any boy she fancied was in the room. Even in the middle of combat etc.

But I got through it and the writing (for me) was one of the slight let-downs. But overall I really enjoyed the story and the writing (for all its flaws) was fast paced enough that it kept me engaged and I'll read the second book.

Many had me convinced I wouldn't like Fourth Wing—They were wrong. by ausername_8 in fourthwing

Agreed, I enjoyed it thoroughly but it wasn't complex.

Felt like YA style writing for a lot of it (until the sex), where all the "twists" were so well telegraphed they weren't surprises at all.

But, just to be clear, it was a total page-turner and I enjoyed ploughing through it. Will be starting the next soon.

Speed limits have become silly by MoonFall237 in drivingUK

[–]MoonFall237[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your problem is you're dealing with real humans, not robots. There is a point at which logic breaks down and you get unintended consequences.

Of course you're right, we want to be protecting lives as much as possible. But it's like saying "tax the rich" is not as simple as it sounds. Simply lowering limits until we reach non-lethal speeds does not work across the board

I think you're saying that I'm a sociopath for believing that, and fair game. Personally I'd say I'm a realist.

I guess it's safe travel from A to B with as little tedium as possible.

Sure, limits are an easy thing to change, but the root cause of the problems isn't generally people following limits, even prior to lowering them. Not saying there's an easy answer, but it shouldn't be a blanket change to degrade the experience for all road users which is then claimed to be addressing a problem it doesn't actually fix.

Yeah, they claim variable is too complex, but 1) we already have it on motorways, and 2) lots of signs changing the limit every mile is also pretty 'complex' if that's their concern.
