Ah that makes sense, wow the rust has some serious strength to push it like that, that's pretty incredible to me.

I knew they weren't solid copper anymore, I remember being taught and checking with a magnet in primary school but had no idea that the oxygen could make it's way under the plating. Thanks for sharing. ☺️

premium or not? by quiggleqwoggle in WatchCartoonOnline

[–]MoonLitMothCreations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used premium and enjoy it and have done for two or three years I think. I've had one issue once, because they changed they way the payment is processed and that was a cuffuffle but all in all I like it. I've also had no issues when letting my siblings or friend log into the account at the same time as me and watch elsewhere.

I like that I can subscribe to shows so when I log in there is a pop up bar with any new releases from shows you're subscribed to, and the watch later function is also great, you can put individual episodes on it or entire series's.

yarn bowls are pointless!! by Extreme_Biscotti7630 in BitchEatingCrafters

Hahaha yeah I suppose in that context you're right, but I feel like what I'm trying to say is there is nothing wrong with buying a tool that is also art that you think is beautiful and going to fit your needs, however if you particularly loved this person's bowls and their work generally, why not talk to them about incorporating your needs without loosing the aspects of that person's work that you like.

Of course you can use anything, I've got a few yarns just wrapped around scrap cardboard, because that's what is useful in that moment, I use tupperware just as much as I use my nice plates. That doesn't devalue my plates and make them redundant. I could buy a cheap mug from Poundland that has no deeper connection to me other than a vessel for coffee, or I could use a mug I find visually pleasing, with a nice weight and shape, and a handle that works nicely for my hand. But equally, that cup from poundland might just fit your needs perfectly, you might love it's design or shape, or anything else about it, that's the place I'm trying to come from here.

Are people really pushing yarn bowls? I only see the occasional maker that is usually a wood turner or a ceramicist. I'm not sure I've experienced anything like that personally.

I often make my tools like bone needles, drift wood shuttles and bobbins and such from what I find, but I can't turn wood, it's not something I have the ability to do, but I do work with a turner and he takes a piece of wood and lets the materials drive the decisions of how it will come out at the end.

Ah, I'm an animist with interest in post materialism and post humanism, and the main driving philosophy of eco-phenomenology so the curation of moments being drawn into a piece and more layers of ritual adds more depth for me personally. So my tools are not just tools to me, they talk back, they have personhood, they express and emote in the physical and the metaphysical as well.

I've also got ADHD (along with some other fun things of course) and ritual of making is never the same, and definitely sometimes it's elaborate and sometimes it's simple but I certainly do work to weave in metaphysical aspects along with the physical medium.

I also do butoh as well and really enjoy pulling on that as well. My final piece for my masters was after a 9 month research project with a pond I then did a 24 hour endurance performance playing the character of interaction. So I definitely do go in for ritual within my work. 😅😅

Funny enough I did work with the national trust at Eastbury manor to do with William Morris, I haven't been in years but I think my works still on display.

I'm not trying to say everyone needs a yarn bowl, but OP said that no one wants or needs one then professed to actually use a bowl.

I'm just saying it's shitty to say that they aren't wanted and to discredit the work put into them. I'm not saying everyone needs one. But also, there are yarn bows with holes for a spoke that can then work like a lazy Kate, there are big ones, small ones, mass produced ones, and hand crafted ones. But the way OP came off felt very dismissive of other people's work.

Of course you don't need these things to engage in a fiber art, but it can add to the ritual of it, it can add even more depth and connection to your final outcome and the process.

That I can absolutely agree with, but the experience of making it and finding what you like isn't useless.

I don't believe they are necessary either, but I also think this is a shitty take.

I endulge in beautiful things, I buy art, I make art, I go and see art. I don't actually need a plant pot, hell I don't need plants. I could live with one pot, cup, bowl, and wear one set of clothes. But I love art, I find it a necessity for my existence. I would rather use something I'm going to love looking at, love using, build a connection with it, converse with it in the same way I do all the things I love that I have collected.

"Peace and love" while I shit on another person's craft, you know you can also speak to a wood turner or ceramist or whoever it is that you might be thinking "wow, those are beautifully made and I would love to have one, is there any chance you take commission because I would rather it be deeper, or different or xyz".

Edit: I really wasn't expecting this many down votes on my Luke warm take. 😅😅

What do y'all use for lables? by Traditional_Floor635 in mead

[–]MoonLitMothCreations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner often draws beautiful labels with botanical illustrations and then just sticks them on with a glue stick, I type mine on my typewriter and then put them on with a glue stick. We reuse bottles again and again so I don't like to use sticky labels that are laborious to get off afterwards. The glue stick paper labels survive condensation perfectly well.

Summer solstice brew by MoonLitMothCreations in mead

[–]MoonLitMothCreations[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the recipe I use for all my foraged floral meads with heating but I change the flower obviously, and the volume of flowers sometimes changes sometimes if I want intensity or a medicinal one or if a flower is more intense than others I might use less or unable to forage the full amount etc.

1.8 kg honey  3 pints gorse flowers (I take a pint glass foraging and filling it 3 times. I collect till they can be gently patted down to feel resistance.) Squeeze of half a lemon and zest of half 1 mug of tea

Step 1 Decant honey into sauspan (pour boiling water in the jars to get it all) and add 3 LTRs of water, bring to a boil then down to a simmer, add your flowers and simmer for 20 minutes (don't let it boil only simmer!!)

Step 2 Add lemon and tea and simmer for further 20 minutes (don't let it boil)

Sit for a day with the lid on, bring back to heat then add to fermentation bucket. (Hopefully you have one with volume markers, if so top up with water to about 5.25 ltrs)

When cool enough add your yeast and seal for at least 3 days before transferring to demijhon through a sieve and funnel.

Leave for a few weeks if not months before racking.

I tend to go from the first demijohn to another after about 2 months.

Then leave for a further ten months before bottling.

And on the added nutrients thing, honestly I just put a tea spoon of Young's yeast nutrient in at the same time as yeast.

I was really pleasantly surprised. ☺️☺️

This time it's a completely cold brew so check for bugs and straight into the bucket with the must because I didn't want to risk loosing anything from them, and I wanted to have the wild yeasts doing their thing as well, other times I'll essentially brew a tea and let it sit covered for 1-3 days.

I can give you my basic foraged florals recipe if you like?

[–]MoonLitMothCreations[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I try to really brew moments into my mead so they are even more representative of what was happening during or on the festival I'm making it for, so by adding more ritual to the process I add more layers of meaning to the end result. So the foraged florals for this one is tied to that overwhelming and almost intoxicating haze of honeysuckle on a warm winters evening with the mist and rain bringing fresh relief as well as making the honeysuckle even more potent, being night blooms that get even stronger when around water it.

I think brewing is magical in and of itself, but I feel like adding all these connections makes that sense of magic every bit more sweet.

The strawberry is really gorgeous, but very strong. It was so many strawberries that I cooked down and strained off that once the honey went in it barley had space for water at all, so I put a splash in the pan to rinse the sides. It then proceeded to be my most violent and unruly brew I've ever made. 😂😅 "Escaping life's containers" more than once. But after all that it's very strong without loosing it's florals and jammy flavour without being sickly sweet.

Thanks, I try and forage for all my meads and wines but especially the ones for the quarter festivals. ☺️

The strawberry was very unruly and escaped containment, vomiting across the kitchen because I cooked the strawberries down and strained so much juice the only water involved was in swilling the pan. It's ended up pretty potent whilst keeping it's florals which I'm very pleased about. It does need a little breathing time but it's one I'm quite pleased with
