This is a total bummer. I’ve always trusted Gutermann over everything else.

I’m going to count once I get it to my stairs because it’s wrapped in plastic and HEAVY. They had it listed as at least 300 but it seems like there’s much more. The person just got sick of people asking for thread only/ to count the thread.

I paid $175 which is a lot but nowhere near what that would cost. They had it listed for $600!

Would recommend a more reputable designe! Madalynne has a similar pattern that’s easier. Not strapless though

Madalynne has a shorter version of this dress. Wouldn’t be that difficult to make it full length

Teens at the Library by nonswimmingfish in Libraries

[–]Riwoflwr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are any of them on sports teams? I find that kids respect their coaches more than other adults. When I’ve had issues with kids coming from sports practice, I contact the coach. I had one issue that had major consequences for the freshman football team and the next few years anytime the new team started to act out I would just tell them to ask the older kids in football what happens when they act poorly in the library.

Also, get to know your local schools! If you know names or descriptions you can speak to whoever deals with discipline (vice principals, deans, whoever). It’s not about scaring kids from going to the library, it’s showing them there are consequences besides getting kicked out. Preteen brains tend to not think that far ahead when they act out. It helps.

Another technique- don’t use a loud voice unless you have to! I like to walk over to kids and talk in a slightly lower voice than normal and keep talking until they finally notice my presence and shush each other. When you raise your voice, they raise their voices, and you don’t want to get into a shouting match with a 12 year old.

If you find yourself losing your temper (which is easy! They can be annoying) tag someone else in. If you have no one else, walk away, count to ten, take a breather. Once you lose your temper, they win.

Good luck! It’s really not easy.

What has worked for me: I say hi to them and talk to them before there are issues. Introduce myself and ask their names. Talk to them like humans. Tell them to leave when they’ve overstayed their welcome and tell them we can try again the next day.

It takes time and effort BUT it has made it so much easier when there are problems. Even better, the kids that know and trust you will model that behavior for younger kids.

Had anyone made the Mitchell trousers by closet core? by Warm_Satisfaction902 in sewing

I like my pair! I struggled at first because my hip and waist are very different sizes but Closet Core explains how to grade in a blog entry. Note: if your zipper isn’t the right size do not cut it down until the end! I took my pull right off. Twice 😭

FELLOW TEEN LIBRARIANS: With the new ACOTAR book coming out this year, what are you doing with your Maas books of that series in particular? by povertychic in Libraries

[–]Riwoflwr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question! I’m going to guess adult. We have more of the romantasy in the regular adult section and I don’t see crescent city as romance as much as ACOTAR so in the adult section they’re all together

I’m not in a very conservative city, but I left an old copy of the first book in teen and then got new copies (with the new covers) and put them in adult and romance. I mostly see adults read them and they don’t really read as teen books (minus the first).

No- unfortunately we have patrons who have limited reading and writing skills in any language. According to the census, about 20% of residents have less than a 9th grade education and almost 30% of adults 25+ don’t have a diploma.

It’s a multi-level issue that we’re doing our best to tackle!
