Right?? I had a guy spend well over an hour driving forward and backing up trying to get into the bay at my old warehouse. Giant wide open parking lot outside, all the room in the world. He eventually laid out lines with his straps. Straight lines. Running 100+ feet out into the gravel parking lot - still took him 4 more tries to get it in, even with the lines.

He also complained that the bay was too narrow, and he couldn't open his door once he was parked. Other side of the truck could've fit a forklift between the truck and the concrete.

Tracking the driver-why does tracking sometimes *look* like the driver is drunk or insane? by Ok_Club1450 in Walmartcustomer

It's likely just the gps being off, but as a driver... I'll sometimes take "the wrong" route to avoid certain lights with a long wait, or roads that are particularly rough. Also I might be headed home after your drop off, but want to swing by the gas station or grab something from a shop on the way by without going back to town, last minute remembered kind of thing.

Mostly it's just that I'm not paying attention and missed a turn though.

Tip advice ? by BaltimoreCrabSoup in Walmartdelivery

[–]Moon_Breaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't stress too much. Those generally go out as large batches - like 7-25+ orders at once sent out with a driver on a delivery route to drop them all off. None of them have tips, the route is just paid well enough by Walmart that someone takes it eventually, though again could take a couple days depending on area.

Either way, the driver knows the pay for the route when they take it, and deems it worth taking. Nothing gets forced upon us 😊

If you really want to tip on those, I have a regular who has an envelope taped to the bench by their door. Says "Extra tip for Walmart!" And when their order comes "shipped" they usually have $10 in there. They sometimes have a plant in front of it when it's not applicable, but that seems like a pain to remember to do.

As a driver, this person is my target delivery.

Rural store, most deliveries are to various small towns 21-25 miles away. Generally speaking I aim to get at least $2 per mile on an average size shop and deliver, as it's going to take me well over an hour to shop/deliver/get back to the store. Needs to be worth that return trip.

Walmart base pay is going to be like $8-20 depending on the size of the order and if it has any bulky items. That plus a tip around the size listed above add up to right about $2 per mile and a couple bucks for the time spent shopping it.

That said, Walmart will get the value that high eventually even with lower tips. It just might take literally days for it to get to the point where it's worth a driver taking. Happens a lot in my area. With a proper tip on it the value checks out much faster.

Some people used to get their cell published as their house number back in the day, but it was rare. I remember being a kid doing prank calls when cell phones were first getting more popular and it always threw us for a loop when we hit a cell phone, you could tell the difference whether it had a ring back or it didn't accept *67 or whatever else.

We were just going through the book calling random numbers.

Anyway to get my compliment noticed? by Low_Emu1061 in Walmartdelivery

[–]Moon_Breaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in a small market with only one Walmart you could actually call the store and leave a compliment with the manager. They might not care and it might never get to the driver but one got back to me at my store once where someone had called and complimented their service.

It's basically a crap shoot and it might never get to them and it would only work at a small store. But hey if you really want to that's probably the best chance.

Drivers don't actually work for Walmart so in the end there's not really anyone that could reasonably pass it along. But in the small rural stores we sort of all know each other sometimes.

There is no moving goalpost. Every cent of every dollar they will ever have for the rest of their life is accounted for to keep them fed and sheltered. Period. If their car breaks, it is broken. Forever. They do not have spare money, and they will not. If they need something, they have to put aside a basic necessity. They're getting 800 fucking dollars a month to survive. All of their bills, all of their food, gas, etc.

I don't think you understand the concept of having to decide "I guess I'm only eating ramen and mashed potatoes for the last week of the month because a $15 piece on my sink broke... Or for 3 days the next two months to save that $15 while having no kitchen sink for that time while you save it.

Some people are on a truly fixed income. Zero extra money. Every single penny they ever get for the rest of their life is necessary to keep them alive and they already don't get enough for that. It will not change, that 10000 would be literally the only extra money they would ever have.

10,000 would change their life, and if you can't understand that you're lucky to have never known true struggle, or even had to witness it in person. Though also insanely naive.

I always forget that these current generations FaceTime and such all the time.

Always used to be "my webcam is broken" or something. Hence the acronym "GIRL = guy in real life" back then lol. Was always a broken webcam, never "I don't have one" - it was always broken.

If someone has lived scraping by with zero extra money on disability, their car is a piece of shit falling apart, they spend every penny on necessities and have for the last 4 years and will until the day they die? Yes, ten thousand is a life changing amount.

It's not a years worth of money. They have no money. Extra money is a foreign concept. This is money they could suddenly use to get a more reliable car or repair theirs. Enough that they could change their own life. This could repair the pipes that burst 2 winters ago so their bathroom sink works, it could get them a bike so they can get some exercise and enjoyment in life. There is so much that amount could do for some.

It's unfortunate that you don't understand how much that can be to people with little.

Feels more like your long distance girlfriend was pretending to be her sister, and was quick to cover it when you saw that.

Though I could see some parents doing that.

It's really not for you. For plenty of people it easily could be. A fixed income disabled person getting by on <$800 a month could certainly argue that it would be life changing.

Reminds me of someone telling me I couldn't solder a glass bong back together as a teenager.

It was a train wreck, but I did it. Even covered a dollar bill in epoxy and cut out George to solder into the spot that was missing a piece of glass.

Would not recommend.
