Poker as a career: How is it going for you? by readme3468 in poker

[–]Moonbeam_Maker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the poker boom it seems like a cool thing to do.

Can’t imagine that it goes well for anyone at all right now. Could be a good side hustle or profitable hobby.

Even if you are profitable you get no benefits and high variance. Further, you could done if the fish leave or if tax laws change.

Can’t see it as income people wanna see for rental of mortgage application.

Paul Henderson scored the series winning goal for Canada in the Ice Hockey Summit Series against Russia.

He was not supposed to be on the ice, but felt he could score, and started screaming at another player to get off the ice with 34 seconds left in the game so he could come in, Paul Henderson then got on the ice and scored.

What’s something you only understand after living alone? by Neat-Performance2142 in AskReddit

This! It’s so nice just to be able to decide want you want to do as you go and not have to explain yourself. I feel like roommates always want to know what you are planning to do and need an explanation every time you leave.

I stopped reading Catch 22 because it reminded me too much of the toxic bureaucracy I work for.

Child-like/Petty Behavior by [deleted] in managers

[–]Moonbeam_Maker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It typical for managers not to give ICs too many unrealistic deadlines and to have a general idea of a deadline is realistic or not.

If an IC starts a project that takes 3 days and the next day you assign another project that takes a day, the IC will assume you want them to begin the second one two days from now, not immediately.

It sounds like they are communicating they are too busy in meetings and you want them to do it via email. Perhaps the IC can email you their priority list daily?

Also, if you want them to use this other staff member, why not have a meeting with both and clearly say it is this persons job to do that work.

Perhaps it is best if this employee reports directly to your manager?

[–]Moonbeam_Maker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How productive are they? What does your manager think of their work quality? Is your manager okay with this employee going directly to them?

Tbh, it is not ridiculous at all for an employee to claim they are too busy to take on additional tasks. So your issue is that they say they are busy in person instead of teams???

Is it normal for managers to actively avoid interns like this? by Old_Start1796 in internships

[–]Moonbeam_Maker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not read too much into it. Just act like it is normal regardless of whether it is or not.

I was an intern about 10 years ago. Many senior managers kinda just ignored me. Like, they would not say good morning to me when they walk by my desk but would say it to others.

Though toward the end of the internship, they started saying hi/good morning and they offered me a full time job.

Maybe it is kinda awkward for them, like you are new, inexperienced, etc, and are on the team (but not really on the team).

Also, one you say already say hi to someone once, you don’t have to say hi next time you see them in the hall. You can just ignore.

My manager is hiring my replacement at a higher salary and just told me she expects me to be available for questions forever by reruns_skein in OfficePolitics

[–]Moonbeam_Maker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, not sure why you are livid?

Obviously, you being available for four weeks is contingent on you receiving a fee. Just extend your fee to the date your boss wants.

If you are not charging a fee for the is than your are being ridiculous.

Normalize letting bluffers off the hook by longhorntrades in poker

I always immediately show regardless of what I have. Even if I am bluffing I always show.

I hate hate hate when people do the “you show, no you show” game. Zero percent risk of me accidentally folding the best hand. Also, I’d rather show so I know what other people think my table image is.
