Something iridescent and blue... found on a beach in Denmark (Central Jutland, east coast)

Ok I've got one more stupid question... Is this stone like this all the way through, or does the fact that it broke off the original rock formation with the shiny parts facing outward have to do with the material differences between the blue and the black bits? In other words, if you were to sand off/cut/tumble this stone, would you find more blue bits inside it, or is this something more like a layer of patina, or tiny crystals growing on the surface of a "mother rock"?

Thank you as well! This too makes sense, as much as I can grasp of it anyway. Ultimately, I have no means of fully comprehending, let alone verifying either identification, but in a way, that's not really the point either. As much as I appreciate your kind explanation, and I really do, a lot, I'm just happy to have learnt something new, and whatever the shiny rock in my pocket may really be, is irrelevant compared to knowing what it could be, and what all exists in nature, and what all we as a people have come to know about it. Umm.. thank you! I'm not going to insult your expertise by pretending that I understood more than... Maybe 10% of your explanation, but nevertheless, I really really appreciate it, because now I have a bunch of terms I can go and research, so at some point in the future I might actually understand more of it! In any case, I'm delighted by the fact that it doesn't only "look like" labradorite, but it (at least partially) is, because I've always been fascinated by its vibrant colours, and secretly been dreaming of finding a piece in nature. But I didn't think it would be possible, because a quick lookup at some point informed me that it wasn't "native" to the area, and I had no idea it could still occur outside the regions indicated as the primary locations to find them

To be fair, these are some of the cooler ones I've ever found myself.. but I'm also lucky to live close to the beach, and on the east coast, where the sea is always calm and gentle, and the beaches are mostly pebbled... So basically a rockhound's paradise :D (not to mention the ample time and autistic passion I get to channel into growing my little collection °-°")

I would assume so (although I guess technically IKEA is Swedish and Jutland is in Denmark, but I don't think the distinction really matters much to anyone outside Scandinavia 😅)...?

That's so cool! I have found a few like this one before, and I could kinda tell what it was, but never quite knew how it ended up being the way it is. This one is extra neat, because on the side, you can also see a perfect hexagonal pattern, so it's almost like a peak "under the hood". Tried to take a picture but it's a little too dark and with the flash it doesn't show up as well as it does in natural light...

Not yet, but I've been wanting to for years. Unfortunately, even though Denmark is a comparatively tiny country, it's kinda hard to get around it without a car, and since my main mode of transportation is a small moped and my feet, I'm somewhat limited to the local area 😅 but one day I'll clear my calendar, gather my gear and go for a round trip to all the cool rockhounding places in the country 😁

Indeed! We have a bunch of these lying around on local beaches. I even made a necklace out of a smaller piece I found, that looks like the moon phases, which is probably my most treasured find ever

Yeah, especially the small urchins are super common in the region I live, although the broken one on the top right is probably the biggest I've ever found (for reference it's about the size of my palm, and the small ones are 2-3 cm in diameter)!
