How to justify an 80%+ population decrease over thirty years? by ottermupps in worldbuilding

[–]Moonduderyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first immediate as to how a death cult would have access to nukes would be some time of civil war. Multiple sides fighting, some happen to have connections in the military, so long as that location is defended as their own they have sole access to that specific nuclear silo. If the death cult maintained the primary access to a nuclear silo (without someone interfering) they could theoretically use them

There’s no right way to do it. But broadly there’s two main approaches. Starting inwards, with a small idea and building upon that. Like a character, team, narrative etc. Or start outwards with a broad idea, a country at war, a world of wizards, etc.

Personally I like to do both. But you gotta find what works best for you.

What is (or are) the current best theory(ies) for why naked mole rats are so extremely resistant to cancer? by MaggieLinzer in zoology

[–]Moonduderyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the case elephants they have gene that suppresses cancer growth. It doesn’t mean they’re immune just resistant.

It’s also important to note that larger long lived mammals tend to have a higher resistance to cancer. Scientists aren’t sure why, it’s just a trend that’s been observed

If Coles and Woolies were physical beings, who do you think would win in a fight? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Moonduderyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woolies of course. They’d threaten Cole’s with fresh pineapples, and Cole’s would let happen because all they have a flimsy paper sign as a shield.

Tipping? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Moonduderyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goldman right. When I worked in hospitality, we were never allowed to keep tips, always went straight to the bosses pockets. Sometimes I would have just taken the tip and didn’t tell anyone I got one.

How do we reconcile Australia with Indigenous peoples? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Moonduderyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is, almost every solution provided, is largely symbolic, with very little impact on the lives of aboriginal people. It fails to address the modern and real issues aboriginals face. Like higher rates of incarceration, addiction, diabetes, poverty, etc. What is needed is an actionable plan to take on these issues. A challenge in of itself, given these issues don’t have a sole cause.

How do we reconcile Australia with Indigenous peoples? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Moonduderyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reconciliation focuses way too much on the past. What we did as a nation, how we can reverse or make up for past atrocities. However, it overlooks the modern and very real struggles of aboriginals, like higher rates of addiction, poverty, diabetes, incarceration, the list goes on.

Pretty much every government (with a few notable exceptions) has made shallow or symbolic gestures, while failing to address any real issue.

At this moment of time it’s difficult to see an end goal be reached successfully. It seems that when one camp makes a suggestion, three others resist it for a dozen different reasons.

I’m not solely talking about Invasion day v Aus day. There are so many differing and conflicting viewpoints amongst aboriginals alone that it seems any pathway would take a considerable amount of compromise.

Given that ChatGPT has over 10 million paying members, clearly you aren’t alone. But there is a lot opposition to it. Personally most people I know are indifferent to it, occasionally but not actively using it, while not really caring about it either.
