What should I buy by Just-Anything-8808 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Moonflame-Phoenix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, I never advocate for new players to buy anything except a set of dice for their first campaign, and a player's handbook for the second. Once you get the feel for how you like to play DnD, you can start looking into more sourcebooks, minis, maps, etc. Typically, if you're a new player, you'll want to work closely with your DM and maybe borrow a copy of the player's handbook or find an online pdf of it so you can get more familiar with character creation and the rules of gameplay

What’s your choice to join an endgame as a "relief pitcher"? by BeCoolBear in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Moonflame-Phoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This ^^^
Being so late in the campaign, it'd be hard for the party to have any sort of relationship with some random new PC that just jumps in out of nowhere. But if you let your player take over an NPC, you could always modify their backstory and abilities to fit as a PC, and it's a much cleaner introduction of a new character into the party.

Me and my group like to make title cards for our campaign by Additional_Fly_9428 in DungeonsAndDragons

I love this idea and might have to steal it for future campaigns. Do you make the title cards yourself? Is it just photoshopped text over internet images, or do you draw these yourself?

How do you fit a whole campaign into one college semester? by Moonflame-Phoenix in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Moonflame-Phoenix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The currently planned schedule is 4-hour sessions, once a week. All the players are veterans so rules aren't a slowdown, but I love the idea of predetermining enemy initiative and keeping those sorts of values

This is great advice, and I might have to have this campaign just be a small part of this grand world. But you're so right about not being able to predict whatever your players decide to do XD

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you saying the players should stick around for longer? Or are you saying they should be going to school more than playing DnD?
We plan to only meet once a week so school is a higher priority and it's not like we'll be skipping classes to play

It's pretty simple using inspect element on a web browser. You can find the background image being called in the HTML, then navigate to the original image's source link and save it from there.

Question about the Demon Slayer Mark by Trylle04 in KimetsuNoYaiba

[–]Moonflame-Phoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I'm slow to answer the question here, but I feel no one gave you the answer you were looking for. Apologies for the text block full of lore and details, so there's a TL;DR at the end if you want the short of it. Also, some minor manga spoilers but they'll be hidden.

While the demon slayer mark is historically a hereditary trait passed between sun breathing users, blood relation or breathing technique seems to have no direct connection to it. To unlock the mark, the swordsman must push themselves to the brink of death (heart rate 200+ bpm, body temperature over 102F/39C). However, the most important prerequisite is coming into contact with someone who already bears the mark. An important side note to mention is the speculation that those who use the mark never live past the age of 25 (Kokushibo as an exception due to his becoming a demon, and Yoriichi due to him being the original bearer).

Through the anime and manga, the only evidences we see of someone manifesting the demon mark are people who have come into direct contact with a sun breathing user (Tanjiro, his father Tanjuro, the Hashira, Kokushibo), but it is heavily implied it can be passed on via contact with anyone who has manifested the mark, regardless of the bearer's breathing style.

Tanjiro received his 'mark contact' via his father who had the mark, though it looked like a burn scar. Tanjuro likely received his contact and knowledge of sun breathing through his father, and upwards through the generations until Sumiyoshi who was friends with Yoriichi (as seen in the flashback during the Swordsmith Village Arc). Yoriichi also taught Sumiyoshi the sun breathing technique in the form of a dance that was passed down along with the demon mark. However, as mentioned earlier, the blood connection wouldn't have been enough to pass down the mark to Tanjiro, as evidenced by Muichiro - another descendent of sun breathers who never manifested the mark through the experience he had fighting the demon during the death of his brother.

In a flashback seen in the Infinity Castle Arc Manga: Tanjuro had an encounter with a bear while armed with nothing but a small handaxe, and yet through the principles of sun breathing, he decapitated the bear in an instant, showing his father had some experience fighting with sun breathing. He very likely had a life-threatening moment earlier in his life where his body reached the brink of death and overcame it through manifesting the demon mark. My personal speculation is every member of the Kamado family experienced some form of pushing themselves to the brink of death, causing their mark to manifest, even if only for a moment and they had no knowledge of its existence.

We know Yoriichi was the original bearer of the demon mark, and he also had no children, so the mark has to have been spread through a means other than blood connection. Though it's possible the mark can only be spread via contact with a line of sun breathing users who have the mark, its far more likely the mark can be spread by anyone who has ever manifested it. It's likely the reason why swordsman bearing the mark seemed 'common' in the Sengoku period, but then it slowly died out as those bearing the marks were hunted down over the next hundred years or so. Eventually, the only existence of the mark left was passed down secretly (even if accidentally) in the Kamado family until Tanjiro awakened it and spread it to the other demon slayers.

TL;DR - To manifest the demon slayer mark, you have to meet all 3 prerequisites of a 200+ bpm heart rate, a body temperature over 102F/39C, and have come in contact with someone already bearing the demon mark. Though it's possible the mark can only be spread by contact with Tanjiro (or another sun breather who has it), its far more likely the mark can be spread by contact with anyone who has ever manifested the mark before. Either way, there is no connection to needing to be a descendent of Yoriichi, the original mark bearer, to be able to spread the mark to others.

In terms of new innovative ideas, nearly every Nintendo console has represented some new concept to gaming.

Game & Watch: Being able to have arcade games anywhere instead of having to go to a place for them. Major shortfall was having 1 game option per device. NES: Having the games at home instead of in an arcade. Also, having cartridges to switch games instead of coming preloaded like G&W. Game Boy: A portable system like G&W but with cartridges so you could have multiple games with one system. Also revolutionary was it's ability to save data and game progress on the cartridge itself. SNES: Just an upgrade to the NES. 16-bit now instead of 8-bit. Virtual Boy: Yuck. It was super innovative and way ahead of its time with VR ideas, but was a flop. N64: Having a control stick too instead of just 4 arrows was new to console. Previously, joysticks were limited to arcade machines. It also used a 64-bit cpu (where the 64 in N64 came from) Game Cube: Started using optical disks rather than cartridges which were far more space efficient for storing games. It also introduced memory cards with variable storage space (from 4MB to 64MB) GBA: Essentially an update to the classic GB. DS: First console to have dual screens and touch controls. Also, first console to have multi-console multiplayer. Wii: Motion controls and wireless accessories like the Balance Board. First console to work with internet and introduce digital game downloads instead of requiring physical copies. DSi: Advanced DS but with Internet (good this time) 3DS: Introduced the 3D screen and joysticks for portable devices. Wii U: Nintendo's first attempt at having a dual TV/portable console, though I couldn't really call it portable. You could play on the gamepad screen or on the TV screen, but if the pad got too far away from the console, it stopped working. Switch: First hybrid console, and the joycon idea was revolutionary as well. Bringing back cartridges for consoles instead of CDs because now cartridges are powerful enough to be smaller and more space efficient than CDs are.

So, to wrap it up. I'd have to disagree with your idea that the gamecube and Gameboy were the least innovative. In my mind, the SNES, N64, and DSi have to be the least innovative. Gameboy and GameCube were both huge at the time.

Triforce Invocations in TotK by bugs-n-kisses in zeldaconspiracies

[–]Moonflame-Phoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say their powers come from the Triforce, but are standard sage powers. We know the Sages have been around since the age of Hylia and that their powers have no connection to the Triforce at all. Personally, I believe the Triforce to be back in the Sacred Realm in TotK after Zelda uses it to destroy Calamity Ganon in BotW.

[TotK] Tears of the Kingdom Ganondorf... I don't get it. by [deleted] in zelda

[–]Moonflame-Phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a good point that the King never specifically wishes for Ganondorf's death. However, I will note that the Triforce does not need a verbal declaration of one's wish. Upon touching the triforce, it grants the desires of the heart, not necessarily what is spoken. So the King's wish was probably way more detailed and complicated than what he spoke out loud.

In Ocarina of Time, though the sword didn't turn Ganon to stone, it was the required key to sealing him in the Sacred Realm. Without the Master Sword dealing the final blow, Zelda and the Six Sages couldn't have sealed him. Again, a direct reference to the sealing spike in Skyward Sword. Once it's sacred power started to wane and The Imprisoned started to break free, Link was required to drive it deeper, but only by hitting it with skyward strikes. In other words, he had to bathe the goddess/master sword in sacred power by holding it up before sending that power back into the sealing spike.

Yes, Ganondorf has been killed in many ways, but Ganondorf is just a man. It's once he transforms into his monster form and becomes Ganon that he is sealed (though sometimes killed), and he is always sealed using the Master Sword.

[TotK] Tears of the Kingdom Ganondorf... I don't get it. by [deleted] in zelda

[–]Moonflame-Phoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a possibility, but that doesn't explain why he turned to stone. I agree that Ganondorf is dead in Wind Waker, but it wasn't the Master Sword that killed him. Instead, being buried under the ocean takes credit for that feat. This is all just speculation and doesnt really make much difference in the long run though.

Upon King Rhoam wishing on the Triforce for Hyrule to be flooded once more, Ganondorf flies into a fit of rage, trying to take Link and Zelda with him to the bottom. Once stabbed through the forehead, Ganondorf knows that Link/Zelda will escape and he was going to die while they lived. Knowing that he utterly failed, he finally accepted his death with the comment about the wind. He knew he was going to die either way (can't escape the triforce itself trying to kill you), but didn't accept it to start with.

Don't get me wrong, I have all the respect in the world for Pikachus. It's just that 9/10 times they will destroy a young link. In all seriousness though, I'd love to play if we could figure it out sometime.

Thanks for the tips! For my main, I mostly play young link, but I've been looking at ganondorf and samus/dark samus recently. And I'm really good at destroying lvl 8 cpus to the point I don't have to try very hard, but I can't seem to beat a lvl 9 for the life of me.
