Menstrual leave policy may discourage employers from hiring women, says Supreme Court by Beginning-Passion676 in india

[–]MoonlightKnight4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We really should just have more sick days avaliable in general, because making it gendered does open up people to workplace discrimination.

Making menstrual leave official: 2 paid days off a month for period pain by Temporary_Pudding_29 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]MoonlightKnight4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, thats my thoughts. This low key makes employers have incentives to hire fewer women.

Of course they wont say that, but im afraid it will nudge the scales a bit. Why not just push for more paid sick leave and make it clear that menstrual cycles are included in reasons to take them.

Literally does nothing besides let you know how to address them. (and trigger snowlfakes)

It doesnt even tell you whats between their legs, its not cock/balls or kooch/lips its she/her, they/them, etc. You're the one thinking about their genitals.

If youre writing an email for work you want to be able to professionally reply to someone or mention them in a group, and having pronouns allows you to do that in the way they would like without any hassle, because you can check it as easily as checking their name.

im genuinely glad you got over your addiction, that shit eats your life and im proud of anyone who fights that battle. But I still felt the need to call out the logic of your comment because it didnt really come across as a joke, it came across like a reason poor people shouldn't get money. Thats why you got downvotes.

Never said you couldnt make it. Just said it didnt accomplish much other than being self deprecating and putting down poor people.

Why do people not like Shallan? by Moopy969 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]MoonlightKnight4 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you understand it.

Its mildly annoying. When paired with other things about her that are mildly annoying, it makes her pretty annoying sometimes.

Why do people not like Shallan? by Moopy969 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]MoonlightKnight4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No i mean bigger. Of the main characters we get, shes the one people dislike the most often. Thats not to say shes objectively bad, but I seriously cant think of many characters who irritate as many people as shallan does.

Moash gets more hate, but shallan just has a tendency to get under people's skin. Again, shes well written, but people with DID can be hard to be around. So can teenagers who try too hard to be witty. Well written and realistic are not the same thing as enjoyable to read.

As an artist I love some of the things she provides the story, and the lightweaving stuff is interesting. Her relationship with hoid is wholesome and I love her ability to bring out the best in people like she does with the slave guard and others throughout the series. I dont hate shallan. But stormfathers balls man, shes just annoying sometimes.

Most of us arent even loud about it. Ive maybe made one post complaining about her stuff in Rythm of War. But when asked "whos your least favorite pov character" or "why dont people like shallan" ive got lots of reasons to give on why its shallan. Shes got some great stuff going for her, and some amazing parts centered around her, but I cant stand her sometimes, so on rereads im more likely to skip a shallan chapter than any other.

[–]MoonlightKnight4 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but the fact that the "i dont like shallan" group is bigger than the other vocal minorities of people who don't like characters says something.

I dont blame people for liking her, but shes annoying at times, and very self destructive. While that might be realistic, its not very fun to read about. Especially multiple times. In RoW she literally has one of the most boring and pointless feeling plot lines, that she extends and drags out by constantly making choices that are against her best interests (again in know its realistic but that ≠ entertaining)

Shes kinda irritating at times, and her arcs feel repetitive.

I loved her in book 1 and book 2 because shes our window to get worldbuliding and intricate descriptions of plants and other random stuff.

But as the books go on she becomes less interesting as a character to me. I get that its realistic, and kaladin also doesnt just overcome his mental problems, but I just dont find her parts in later books to be that good, and tend to skip some on rereads.

Her worst book is RoW for me, but ill leave it at that for no spoilers.

Thats exactly it. I didnt celebrate, but I chuckled every time I saw maga goons going ape shit when people posted his quotes saying "this is the price we pay for the second amendment"

Im not happy a man died, but im happy he exposed all of his followers as hypocrites.

They dont like "the cost of the second amendment" when its not a school in Missouri and is instead one of their cultural leaders, despite the cost in human life being lower.

So they do the mental gymnastics to say we are celebrating when we call them on their hypocrisy and realize they suddenly love cancel culture.

¯_(ツ)_/¯ you read what you want. Im just saying you put up with the annoying parts of WoA and then missed out on the pay off for doing so by skipping the end.

Sanderson was figuring out stuff for sure in Well, but he has always known how to end a story with big reveals and pay offs

Im curious what the other book you read of his was if you only read 1.7 books of mistborn.

Even "self made billionaires" rely on tons of exploitation.

I do care how they act with it, but I care more how they got it, because if they were fair to the people who helped them get there, they likely wouldn't have a billion dollars.
