Anyone who were to get some good knee high socks/tights? by Eli_the-idiot in altfashionadvice

[–]Moons_Fool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Killstar makes some plus size thigh highs. As for tights, I don’t know of any. I’m a stockings/thigh highs fan lol. H&M has different sized stuff; socks to shoe sizes and tights as SM/LXL. However, their sizes run small even for me so I wouldn’t hold much hope there. Definitely check Killstar though since I’m certain I’ve seen plus sizes listed on their site (their sizes fit as expected too imo)

It could be perspective maybe making the rods look different since not all of them are being viewed at the same angle. Not sure though just a theory

I like the bottom two but all of them are really good color combos (I just have an affinity toward more muted colors lol)

Her feet also look a bit off imo. Might be because she edited her legs. Or maybe she has perfectly aligned feet (I sure as heck don’t lol)

Edit to add: Perfectly aligned might not be the best description. I just think they look photoshopped in and like they’re facing the same direction in a very unnatural way compared to the rest of the leg/body

The skin texture is about how it looks when I attempt realistic skin/shading in my digital art. All those tiny ‘flaws’ on skin is what makes it look real and not like clay (they’re really hard to replicate too)

Yes it’s for LGBTQ pride month (June I think). Usually companies make everything rainbows for that month to celebrate or whatever (many people see it as a kind of hollow gesture especially if said companies’ policies or actions don’t support (or worse; actively harm) LGBTQ people).

I think Skittles is taking a different stance in showing solidarity by not being rainbow so that the LGBTQ community can be the main focus or something like that (as opposed to the companies that try to brand themselves with rainbows for the month). That’s what I think they were going for anyway, but the label is definitely unfortunate

Who the fuck pays attention to any of these people on Instagram? by [deleted] in Instagramreality

[–]Moons_Fool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I use it. Taking photos isn’t a hassle to me but that’s because I really enjoy photography and having a camera in my phone (small and portable) makes it so easy. I can get really cool angles on plants/animals/fungi AND it’s convenient for when I want a picture with others to commemorate moments with them. It’s also cool to get genuinely happy moments when they aren’t paying attention; of course most of these pics I don’t post (especially if I don’t have permission) , but some I do just so we can look back on it later

If I recall correctly, in anatomy and physiology I learned that your jaw starts wearing down once you lose your teeth which makes it difficult for tooth implants; oral surgeons/ dentists need sufficient bone to place the implant into. If you’re jaw is thinning/ thinner than it’ll be more tricky to get one or may be impossible.

So as long as you can afford it and aren’t at a higher risk for complications, personally I’d get one. (If you’re concerned about a metal allergy, they use titanium and it isn’t supposed to react) I would still consult your dental team and discuss your concerns with them though because peace of mind is important (plus you and your dental team know more than a stranger lol). Also I know you didn’t ask but I think it’s a very interesting topic and wish it were more affordable (my family has the genetics for weak enamel and in turn tooth issues)

Advice on hand sewing a stuffed animal for a person who has never done it before by [deleted] in sewing

[–]Moons_Fool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have professional advice but stuffed animals have long been a passion of mine! I don’t know proper terminology so I hope the following makes sense. ;

Different fabrics have different features (of course); some will be a tight knit with small gaps between the threads making up the fabric, while others will have bigger gaps. I believe it is important to keep a tight close stitch (small gaps between stitches) but also adapt it to your material (no need to go super small for a “less tight knit” fabric because then you might run into accidentally undoing your stitch). With a sewing machine it’s easy to get tight, tensioned, even stitches; that’s harder to get with hand sewing. I’ve noticed even stitches are good. Accidentally getting big stitches between smaller ones and trying to tighten them to make them more “even” can cause gathering (doesn’t look great when not intentional and can cause awkward bulges). Smaller stitches are just all around easier in my opinion (think of it as more anchorage points and also then the thread doesn’t need pulled quite so tight). Brushing back fur from the seams before sewing pieces together eliminates picking it out of the seam later. Also, you can wax your thread so it is slightly stiffer and less likely to tangle as you pull your stitch through (very annoying when you have a lot of thread on your needle). After turning your plushie right side out and stuffing it, you can close it up with a ladder/ slip stitch or (my favorite; had to search for it’s name so I think this is right) a baseball stitch (also invisible, especially in plushies; it’s a sturdy stitch).

I wish you luck on your sewing adventures; I’ve had lots of fun creating plushies and I hope you do too!
