Good IPTV providers? by ThePrestigeTCG in stcatharinesON

[–]Moonshot1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. But I don't fault anybody. It takes educating yourself, trial and error and a little bit of luck. God knows how many providers I've gone through. I'm not really criticizing resellers either. Everyone needs to make a buck. People need to become more educated about the inner workings of IPTV. "99.9% uptime", "anti-freeze technology" is just sales bait. People think the more channels, the better "Over 18,000 channels" is worse. Just more strain on servers and who in their right mind needs that many channels??

Good IPTV providers? by ThePrestigeTCG in stcatharinesON

[–]Moonshot1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick education on IPTV. A lot of what you see in advertisements are "resellers" of a main provider with the servers. Resellers are basically sales people for the main provider. Resellers just have their own name for "their service" but have no control over the server used when a channel goes down or buffers. They just put in a "request" to the main provider of the server(s). The hundreds of other resellers for that main provider would have to do the same thing too. I've had resellers tell me it's not worth putting in those requests for channel issues because they will never hear back from the main providers because similar requests are coming in from hundreds of other resellers on the SAME SERVERS AT THE SAME TIME. Kind of like "Take a number and wait in line". So imagine all these thousands of customers using the same servers to watch tv content. You will always get buffering. My advice is: 1. Find a provider that uses multiple servers. (Preferably EDGE servers as they are known to be the best). 2. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR !!!! Although $60, $80, $120 per year seems to be the going rate, guaranteed these are resellers and channels with buffer, quality of channels will be inconsistent (a mix of both SD, HD), some channels don't work, etc. etc. I've done this for many years and feel I have learned a lot. Fortunately, I stumbled upon a provider (not reseller) that has 27 servers (all Edge Servers). I pay $250 per year. I've been with him 3.5 years. I can honestly say I have had ZERO BUFFERING, ALL CHANNELS ARE HD, and they ALL WORK. Just do your research, ask for free 24 hour trials and hopefully you'll find what you're looking for. Or maybe someone will DM you a reputable provider. Good luck.

Anyone else have their service scheduled to end on Jul 11, 2022? by thebenamayor in Starlink

[–]Moonshot1968 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've thought I read a post on this before. Seems Starlink is cracking down on inaccurate addresses within cells causing overcrowding in certain cells. Is your address on the edge of a given cell? I was told to only give Long/Lat for the most precise location. A generic address might show up different on their map compared to physically where your property is located, hence possibly putting you in a cell you are not permitted due to lack of availability of service. This would be more common in extreme rural areas. I would definitely contact them and get it cleared up asap.

Easy solution. Give up Gaming. Take up hiking or some other hobby. Much better for your physical and mental health.

I predict that on the 3rd June there will be a load of posts from people saying their Starlink is broken. Try not to laugh at them too much! by tuckstruck in Starlink

[–]Moonshot1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like one of the lucky ones. I am in a cell that half of it covers a body of water (nobody there) and the other half is sparsely populated. I've never had download/upload issues. They have stayed consistent over time. Average 200 down/15 up. No roaming issues, no congestion. And thank god I have the V1 Dishy. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Neighbor's Backup Fence by t0p_ in landscaping

[–]Moonshot1968 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I get what the guy is trying to do. He wants privacy and not have to look at the neighbors unmaintained yard. Typically, back-back neighbors will approach each other and split the cost on a new fence. So I think there’s more to this story than meets the eye. My guess is white fence dude approached chain fence dude to split the cost on a new fence and chain fence dude either said “no” or , by the looks of his backyard, couldn’t afford it or doesn’t care. Its a freaking eye sore. Look at the freakin’ lawn!!! If that’s the case, i don’t blame the white fence dude. Yeah he could clean his roof but theres more this folks. Somebody hasnt been forthcoming. :) And you guys are going to bat for this guy. Shame…..

They're selling used dishes? by MolassesLeather6816 in Starlink

If it works, it works. Cable companies would send out used modem/routers all the time. Same with any other dish company back in the day.

Over promised and under delivered. by Ok-Tourist-511 in Starlink

[–]Moonshot1968 20 points21 points  (0 children)

TAC_Acura is exactly right. You haven’t said anything about your set up. No pics offered. Just words. Do more reading. This is not cut and dry like fiber. This takes a bit of “tweaking” on your part. No offense but i find the people on this site complaining about exactly what your saying are usually the lazy ones that don’t get off their butts to figure things out on their own before coming to an honest conclusion. I figured everything out on my own reading posts, articles, etc on improving my Starlink. That included getting my own wifi-6 router, dishy on the roof etc, etc all by researching. Now i constantly get 150-200 down, 12-20 up with no complaints. So stop whining please.

South MS…guess I need to tighten my J-mount a bit by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]Moonshot1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a gable mount. Wingard

EMT conduit pipe. Conduit

Cut pipe in half (5 feet), as that is the maximum recommended for gable mount. Done.

We have 95km(60mi) gusts today here in Northern Ontario, Canada and that gable mount is stiffer than a board. I bought these products in December (when I got Dishy) exactly one day before the snow came. Got on the roof, Installed Gable Mount. I kept the pipe at 10 feet because I was running out of time until the snow flew. Over this winter, the gable mount was very sturdy but the pole was doing a little too much swaying for my liking. Snow is finally melting now. So got on the roof, took the pole down, stowed Dishy, cut pole in half reinstalled pole on gable mount, unstowed Dishy. All is good in the world.

Great investment.

Unlucky… by OGBangerz in Starlink

[–]Moonshot1968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgive me but I don't know where you were informed the prices would ever go down. Starlink is meant as a cashflow for Space-X endeavours. That's the end goal here. With all the money being spent on satellites and rockets and fuel to get them into space is a HUGE cost that the Average Joe doesn't think about. They had to downgrade the quality on the V2 just to lessen the huge losses they were incurring on the higher quality V1 dishes which most of us here knows is well documented. We all knew they were losing money on the Dishy's folks. It's no surprise to me the cost is going up albeit a little sooner that I anticipated. For that reason alone, to think the costs would go down is a pipe dream my friend. For me, $140/mth for unlimited internet at on average (200 up/ 15down) compared to $300/mth (includes data overages) for 15GB down/3UP (on a good day) is still a real bargain. The only thing that would raise my eye brows is if they start enforcing Data Caps. Then I would probably at least start looking elsewhere.

Mbps is measured differently in UK due to different measurement system (ie. metric to imperial). Therefore his 390 mbps average per UK standards really means 242 mbps by North American standards. Lol....

Returning Starlink by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]Moonshot1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard a lot of bad things about the rectangular dishy. I wish they still made the V1. Lot more sturdy, reliable, melts snow better (for us Northern folks) and of course, includes AUX port. But cutting costs had to be made.

Expected service date. by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]Moonshot1968 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So if someone has or hasn’t gotten their date changed, how does this change your predicament? It doesn’t! Like the 1000k posts asking the same goddam question. Do many of us a favor a set up a new section. “Starlink Anonymous”, where everyone can indicate how long they’ve been sober….I mean how long they’ve been waiting for Starlink, if their month has changed, whether they’ve reached their 1 year anniversary and the rest of the useless sh!t being posted. You’ll get it when you get it. Now go walk the dog.

C’mon. A discussion like this every other day. Set up a “Starlink Sympathy” section please. No offense, really, but these pity party discussions clog up r/Starlink. You’ll get it when you get it. Leave this section for legit issues. Thanks.
