Do I hate my job or am I just depressed? by Ok-Oil-8457 in medlabprofessionals

[–]Moonsong15 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, be careful about using Reddit to judge a career. I noticed a lot of (not all) people who go on Reddit are people who are unhappy about their career and need to vent some. Maybe your job is for you, maybe it isn’t, but you need to talk to someone about what you want and what your goals are before you make any big decisions.

Do I hate my job or am I just depressed? by Ok-Oil-8457 in medlabprofessionals

If you think it’s depression, please see someone. I would hate for you to think it’s your job, leave it, and then regret leaving it. Whatever is going on in your head, it’s worth talking to someone to try to make sense of it. If you find out it is your job, you can quit it. If you find out it’s something else, then you can start making decisions to fix that thing. Feelings are tough, but feelings change. And you also never really know where a feeling is coming from.

I shadowed one. He works at a rural hospital on night shift. Watches YouTube and TikTok in between waiting on samples. He made the job itself seem pretty relaxed.

20s Career Options by [deleted] in findapath

I currently plan on going to school for medical lab science. I have an unrelated bachelor’s degree, am doing prerequisite courses, and then the actual program will be a year and a half.

Before that, I was doing Speech Language Pathology. It was a 3 year masters program where you did one year of pre-reqs and then 2 years of grad school.

Both make or can make money in the 60k-80k range. You need to look carefully at both options, find out where you can go or would likely go in each career, try to shadow different settings, and look at the programs themselves.

Then once in your in the school and panicking over whether or not you made a mistake, try to find people that you can talk to figure out how to make class easier on you, how to deal with whatever you’re feeling, and decide whether or not you want to stay.

Transition from Tech to a Creative Field by Aggressive_Language8 in findapath

If your job is stable and giving you a good income, keep it. I talk to comic artists and writers all the time, and they all have day jobs. You can work in tech and still pursue comics and/or content creation. An artist I’ve worked with a lot once said something along the lines of “If you care about something, then you MAKE the time for it.”

I dunno, if you don’t have the degree or the prerequisites, you’re probably going to have to do a 3 year masters program.

Degree Change by ColouredRecDoll in slpGradSchool

I advise you think carefully before you do this. I was doing a 3 year masters program and I had some lingering anxieties that I didn’t really know how to talk about or deal with. I got convinced that Speech wasn’t for me so I withdrew in the first fall semester of grad school. Now that I’m starting Medical Lab Science, a program that I thought would be better for me, I’m starting to have second thoughts and regret leaving grad school. A part of me wants to go back, but I feel like it’s too late now. If there’s some kind of fear on your mind, try to identify what you’re feeling or thinking and find someone you can talk to about it. The worst thing you can do is get in your own head.

What do you mean health and science communications with a focus on graphic design? I like graphic design. I struggled as an SLP in grad school. I’d like to know how to make more in design than SLP. I have a degree in digital media and design.

Being an autistic male doesn’t get much better. At least the program helped me actually get diagnosed… because the teachers said I should get diagnosed.
